Wow u do such great work! I have had my mother’s headboard here at my house and have wanted to do this technique but just have never felt confident enough to attempt. However, after watching your video here this morning I now feel confident enough to do it and let me tell you I have watched a ton of videos but for some reason just the way you have explained it and shown the way you achieve this look I get it!! I can do this 😜 and let me tell you she n my dad will be so very happy to get their headboard finally no more having to prop their pillows up against the wall to prop up n watch tv.. Wish me luck I’m gunna do this today yay!!! Thanks again so so much.

Thats some awesome feedback. I'm glad people are able to actually take something away from this video and put it to use. Just keep going. It will look jacked up at first but just work on one section at a time and take a step back every so often and fill in where you need to, but dont do too much! Good luck!

Used this method after watching this vid. Used four different colors for an antique Mexican look. Came out incredible using a 5 dollar solid wood end table bought at the Goodwill. Now it looks like an expensive antique. Doing my kitchen table and chairs next. Thanks for the great video.

Did you have to sand between different colors.
@skimmer521
@skimmer521 6 лет назад
I didnt. I lightly sanded the surface and wiped it down. Then I used four colors. I waited for the color to partially dry and wiped it all down with a dark stain that took some of the paint off and gave it a richer look.

Furniture Envy Do you plan to do a video on dry brushing with multiple colors? I just saw an awesome piece on Pinterest with brown at the bottom, white at the top and then blended with turquoise in the middle section. Gorgeous combo of colors but I'm not sure exactly how to stop and start the different sections. Thanks for this video!
@ThatShabbyGuy
@ThatShabbyGuy 6 лет назад
+1955dmb I know the looks you're talking about but haven't tried it. It isn't necessarily dry brushing as much as it is fading the colors together with wispy strokes in the middle. If I get a piece that I don't mind experimenting on, I'll do a video on my own attempt. :)

Anyone ever see the antique process of late 1960s? Very similar to shabby chic. People started taking beautiful wood furniture and painting it to look distressed and shabby. The next twenty years, people were finding these pieces of covered treasure and stripping them down to original wood and restoring to original beauty. Wonder if that will be what happens to these shabby chic pieces?
@ThatShabbyGuy
@ThatShabbyGuy 7 лет назад
Yes. It is pretty much what we call glazing today. I've heard older people refer to the process as "pickling" also. You know, pretty much anyone that paints furniture will catch some sort of flak over painting furniture. I definitely have. I always tell them that if they love it so much, they are welcome to strip it down and make it new again because that is what was done in the past. Yes, some pieces may be forever ruined depending on how the piece was prepped and all that, but I think there will be some treasures under paint like you said. I'm actually thinking about buying an inexpensive painted piece and restaining the whole piece. Its just been on my mind. I think it would be fun to see how it turns out. It would really flip the script on what everyone is doing today. A lot of people seem to be obsessed with me painting this specific set for some reason. It is particle board furniture with cherry veneer. The drawers arent dovetail. The set is from the 1990s and had dog piss all over the base of the dresser from the original owner. :D
@MeMe-cd1wy
@MeMe-cd1wy 7 лет назад
I'm sure your process will improve the particle board piece. However, I keep seeing beautiful solid wood pieces being painted and hope the process can one day be reversed for the next generation who will be looking to find the original woods and styles. The current house do over style is something of the same. Beautiful walnut walls in 1890s libraries in old homes are being painted over in an effort to "brighten up" the room and this priceless wood is being forever. I am old enough to remember depression generation people painting furniture to make it "new" but young enough to watch the next generation trying to scrape the paint of these covered antiques. Are we doing reruns?

Furniture Flipping Teacher did a 2 piece set in pink and it was gorgeous. The little girl was 5 and her grandfather bought it for her. 💕
