I'm watching Katee Sackoff's "Blah Blah Blah" podcast right now with Lord Maul himself, Sam Witwer, and he mentions your channel when talking about painting miniatures. And here i find this video so perfectly timed
Great subtle hint to undercoat the bright reds with a layer of white. So many of my past struggles with adding layer after layer would have been solved with this simple step. Fantastic work as always!
As usual, magnificent work, especially the NMM! I'm still striving to get my head round that style of painting...it's coming to me very slowly and little by little. These videos, among others, help a lot!
Thank you! I certainly hope to cover some of the expansions with videos; in the mean time, if you follow me on social media you'll see when I drop PDF guides (Darth Vader is coming soon: m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid07bdyEhsJaUtE8u1s1yQtDpEPa1s7ev7YxwnVntdBUfQp7pSMNABPHvPRTiKnH8uZl&id=100058055472008) 😀
holy smokes. Just calmly does NMM out of nowhere like it's no biggy. I usually try to follow along in a way, but I cannot for the life of me do NMM. Insane paint job!
as a total newbie to this, your videos are simply amazing! I'm amazed of the metallic effects without using metallic paints, what a pro! :D I'm wondering if your varnish these afterwards and, in case you do, if you can recommend what to use? Thanks!
Thank you so much for the kind words! Yes, I like to use the AK Interactive Ultra Matte Varnish (which can be brushed on or applied with an airbrush) 😀
@@Sorastro Thanks for the reply! I've been using a satin vallejo varnish but the minis end up a little bit to shiny for my taste :P will give that ultra matte a try!
Thank you! I haven't yet "converted" the colours actually. It's tricky, because even if you match the colour, the finish and properties of the two paint lines are quite different.. 🙂
Thanks so much! The mini looks matte because the Scalecolor paints have a very matte finish. The Scalecolor Artist paints (that I used for the NMM) are slightly more satin, but still fairly matte.. 🙂
Thank you! It depends, but I'll usually shoot a video like this over 2-3 days. I tend to work in concentrated bursts then do other stuff in-between (including exercise, because I don't like sitting still all day!) 😁
@Sorastro Thank you for answering that question! The video makes it seem so fast. Lately, now that I am getting faster and better, I tend to take 2-3 day per each detailed mini as well, so I am glad to hear that is starting to be about right for detailed minis. Love practicing and learning how to do more of those beautiful highlights and the amazing small details you teach us how to do. And, of course! Your Star Wars Series has been the most helpful to help me get better at mini painting over the last few months! Thank you!
Amazing as always! Those face tattoos make me shudder... "brush control"? My hand isn't steady enough, even for painting coarser details. I think I'll have to paint Lord Maul last of the bunch :/ (I've seen other people just washing the recesses, but the results aren't as satisfying as doing it properly like you).
Thank you, sir! You might find some tips in this video regarding stability (and magnification) helpful: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qW0fpSkgwLA.htmlsi=EKiYJlrjC6m_UqGg 🙂
