In this video, i show you my step by step process for creating realistic white fur in acrylic. I go through the initial blocking in layer through the modelling layers and then to the final detail showing the brushes that I am using. Hopefully this tutorial will help give you some ideas to render your own white fur more realistically.
Thank you for watching and for any support you can give so that I can improve this channel and my content.

Love your videos! You use the same terms I used to when teaching drawing and painting in high school (for 31 years). I get such a kick listening to and watching your demonstrations. I visited York in the fall, such a beautiful historic town. I’m from San Diego. I’m doing a 24”x36” painting of my niece’s dog. Your videos are extremely helpful. Thank you so much! You are a sweetheart!

i wish i could show you a painting that i'm working on where i messed up the hair direction. the subject in my painting has very short hair on the face, and it is mottled black and brown, so the direction of the hair is very obvious (and beautiful). i got the angle wrong around one of the eyes and it really changed the appearance of the dog - it looks less like that particular dog. now i'm putting off trying to fix it bcz it was so incredibly hard for me to even get the fur to look right in the first place. i'm a bit of a coward, lol. but my mistakes proves just how essential it is to get it right, particularly for portraiture. this video is going to help me tremendously with the longer hair on the neck and below the ears on my painting. it has that thing going on with different directions of fur. yay!!! one thing that you can do and i cannot (yet, anyway) is paint fine hairs from either direction. i lack the control that you have. when i do the little, fine strokes for a hair, where i put the brush down to start, the line is always thicker on that end, so i tend to have the other end be the end of the hair (not the root), if that makes any sense. i'm watching you here (in some of the real time work) and i see that you are able to begin and end a hair with either end being the finest part of the line. amazing (to me). i work flat and i'm constantly turning my painting around to accommodate my ability to paint the hairs from only one direction. thanks so much for another fantastic video and painting!!!!

Haha I don't feel like i can paint the hairs so well both ways round. I mention in the video that my preference is to start from the base and go to the tip....just creates better less abrupt tips to the hair. I can't rotate the painting and can't position myself to be able to do it differently...if only I had a larger and better studio space...ah well. Sorry to hear about your struggles with fur direction. Are you using acrylic? Its easy to cover up and layer over it if so....

@@TmHudsonArt yes, it is acrylic. i'm having a hard time coving it back up while also blending it into the surrounding area without making it look like an obvious "patch job". i'm just a beginner with acrylic - this is my 2nd painting in this medium. before i did watercolor. part of my problem is that the technique for painting this mottled, highly directional fur is extremely challenging for me to begin with. even mixing the exact right color for the light browns took me three days to get right, and i still find it difficult to get that color right in subsequent batches. i don't paint with an easel. i paint flat on a table. my work is small (8x10 inches). i'm fortunate to have a large table to work on. so i can easily spin my painting around in all directions (and i do it constantly, lol). right about when you are talking about how you flattened your rigger brush - there you paint hairs from left to right and from right to left.int he same area. :-)
