In this video, I'll show you how I create custom figures for 1/35-scale armor builds using parts from various kits. This is a great, cheap & easy way to make unique, one-of-a-kind figures that'll help bring your tank kits to life.
Today we'll take a look at this US Marine Corps Sherman commander that I've built up for my Iwo Jima M4A2.

great work, I'd add that as well as Alpine Miniatures, Hornet make great resin heads in a bunch of expressions with and without headgear, also the resin hands from both companies are a great addition if you're looking to go the extra mile.

For a better fit you could use a metal pin to strenght the neck-shoulders' joint, superglue too often isn't enough to bond resin & plastic.

Great tutorial. I would like to note though that US tankers wore their tanker helmets when action was expected, regardless of the temperature (like in this scenario). The simple reason is that the interior of a tank is extremely cramped and the tank usually moves on uneven ground. You are pretty ineffective if you accidentaly knocked yourself out on a bump.
@SpruesNBrews
@SpruesNBrews 2 года назад
Thanks! And yeah, I know that these guys would have the tanker helmet on at the very least, but I just wanted to go for a very specific look here to really distinguish the PTO tanker from the rest of the ETO vehicles in my collection. Probably should have gone with a protected head, but what can ya do! 😅👍

i agree even on modern MBT's I was a crewman on a M1IP for a few years we had a few bumps here and there.

Thanks for the guidance on “building custom figures.” Hank, I’m the guy who volunteers at the AHM in Hudson, MA. You wouldn’t, by chance, be going to an armor modeling convention in VA in April?

Olive Drab = Army Green = USMC Also, how would you add sweat stains and body salt stains for cap, collar, and pits?
@SpruesNBrews
@SpruesNBrews 2 года назад
Ahh fair enough! Haha I'd say a good technique for stains would be to darken whatever color you're working with a bit. So if you were trying to create a stain on a green shirt, you could mix in a little bit of a darker green (or brown) to create some contrast between the two 👍

Hey man👋im struggling at how to put on the black things on the wheels i think its called tracks it seems like they are very tight have u got any advice on how to put them on easier
@SpruesNBrews
@SpruesNBrews 2 года назад
Hey there - yes, they're called tracks. I would recommend removing the drive sprocket (the first wheel in line... the one with the spiky parts coming out) and fitting the tracks into place on that. Afterwards, you can slip the sprocket with the treads attached into place & stretch them over the idler wheel in the back and everything should sit nicely 👍

Have any of you encounter where even when they state 1/35 on resin heads but when you attach to lets say Dragon or Tamiya 1/35 scale bodies they look so small in comparison to the body?
@SpruesNBrews
@SpruesNBrews 2 года назад
Hey there - that's a good point! Every manufacturer's scale reference is a little different, unfortunately, so it's really important to do some test fitting prior to pairing heads with bodies to make sure all the scales look right 👍
