Thank you for this painting tutorial! I took a picture of an iguana with its two front legs crossed while laying half way over a log. I never knew how to even begin to paint it, but now I do, thanks to this video. Could I just water down my paint and get the same effect, instead of buying transparent paint?
Yes you absolutely can to some effect! You can also get transparent mediums to mix into your paint instead of water - I love the liquitex soft body transparent paint because of the high pigment load so it keeps the colours very vibrant but a softer style would still look lovely 🥰
Hey there! Amazing painting you did! I'm a new painter, and I wanna paint a lizard, but I'm using oil paint. So was wondering how would I do to paint the scales in white, then over paint with another color. I suppose that would cover up everything. Do you have any advice ??
Hi Marcos! Yes this is one of my only paintings a bit more specific to the liquitex soft body transparent paint, what I would do with oil is try to simplify your colours in the first layer of scales to the general green/red/blue colours to focus on the shape and direction, and then wait for it to dry to do a second layer with more attention to the colours. I love using oil for subjects with a lot of gradient blending too. This is the only scaled animal I've painted and it was definitely a challenge
