If you're struggling to get the right color for your beach painting, here's a simple solution. Dutch clouds painter Janhendrik Dolsma shares his recipe. In this 8 min. clip he shows how he mixes the different shades for his realistic beaches.
Dolsma (1950) is an expert painter of clouds, beaches, dunes and of course the ocean. On his RU-vid channel he shares a lifetime of painting experience in short tutorial videos with an emphasis on painting clouds. His full length tutorials (over 60 minutes) have found their way to buyers all over the world. Full tutorials can be found here: www.paintingsk...
Dolsma participated in exhibitions in the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, Taiwan, Spain, Belgium and the USA.

You are so right; every beach has different colors. I greatly appreciate your teaching and buying your videos are the very best to educate myself to improve. THANK YOU!

Perfect way to start the New Year …. thinking about the subtleties of color, light and water on the beach, your beach, any beach, anywhere. Definitely a safe space outside in this 2nd Covid winter and a luminous space to paint inside the studio. Thanks so much for this “vacation video” for the imagination.👩🏻‍🎨😷😷😷👩🏻‍🎨

Very informative. Thank you! Beautiful large scale seascape. It makes me wish to see Scheveningen again--this time in warm weather instead of the winter. Readers, do you know that this is where Old Holland had a factory? That's how that gorgeous color, Scheveningen Blue got its name.
@PaintingSkies1
@PaintingSkies1 2 года назад
Thanks, Lesley! You're right, Old Holland is sometimes even called Scheveningen paint in the Netherlands. The company started as early as 1664 when the guilds started producing their paint together. It is still one of the better oil paints on the market.

I see what you mean. Yellow ochre is more brown than brilliant yellow, though. If you mix yellow ochre with cadmium yellow, you might get close.

@PaintingSkies1

@@robot7759 I can imagine that a water color artist doesn't care for ragged brushes. An acrylic artist (depending on his style) could benefit from their use though. I did a short video on the use of ragged brushes and why they're helpful: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NQHiavWH41g.html. Hope it answers your question!

Do you mean when the paint is still wet or after it has dried?

@@PaintingSkies1 I finished my painting & warnished with clear spray paint a few times and it is now messed up😞 I am looking for a way to rescue it as I really love it
@PaintingSkies1
@PaintingSkies1 Год назад
@@hulyak.466 I'm sorry to hear that. Messing up a painting you're satisfied with is the worst. Removing oil paint after it has dried is almost impossible, though it takes a long time (up to a year) until it's really dry. When you talk about spray paint do you mean spray varnish? Removing varnish is no problem. All you need is a soft cloth and turpentine. By gently rubbing the surface with a moist cloth you can remove the varnish.
@PaintingSkies1
@PaintingSkies1 Год назад
One more thing: you probably varnished your painting before it was really dry and that may have messed up your painting. My advice would be to wait until you're sure this time the painting is really dry. Otherwise you may do even more damage with a moist turpentine cloth!

Can we use another grey not sepia?
@PaintingSkies1

Sure, Jennifer. I often used van Dyck's brown instead of Sepia (which is also a brown). You could experiment with Payne's Grey and add different colors to it. Success!
