Man. I always feel the weirdest combination of humility and belief in myself watching these videos. I'm amazed at your skill, but your teaching style makes me think...yeah, I can do this too! Hallmarks of an expert if ever I've seen 'em.
Thanks Preston! You did such an awesome job with the design! The hardest part for me was deciding which mini to paint first as they're all so great, but in the end I thought Vaerix could be one of the most visually interesting - especially when I saw those crystals on the ground... :)
@@Sorastro in far future maybe you get dragon and you give us the best tutorial painting :). Maybe my dream come true :). You are the best for me remember !.
Wow. Just Wow. I remember watching your Zombicide tutorials way back when... Your skill level has gone to 11 and the results are truly stunning. I better up my painting game to keep up with your tutorials!
The Master painter strikes again! The level of professionalism is staggering! The camera position ,the music , narration ,skill ,all of it ! Excellent! Trying to mimic your work is just not possible ..
When I wanted to start painting the new Descent and typed "Descent Legends of Dark painting Guide" into the search engine, I had to smile when he showed me your channel ... The same painter who helped me with Zombicide Black Plague
I learned so much from that first series of Descent 2nd edition videos. I followed along with almost the whole series and I only have about 2 models left to paint from 2nd edition. So excited to see this new release, and you even picked my favorite hero!
Yesss!! A new series from the Maestro 🤩 What a lovely treat and another mini can enter the world well dressed. His friends and adversaries will stand in awe 😊👏🏼
Both of your guides to the Descent: LotD heroes were a huge help to me! Would have liked to find more of those to the game, but thank you a lot for Vaerix and Syrus! 😀
Thanks again, Sorastro! Looking forward to this series. Characters look great! I'm unfamiliar with this game, but do love me a good dungeon crawl. Hope you enjoy playing as much as we enjoy watching (a lot 😊).
Ahhh, Sorastro back in the Descent groove. It’s like putting on a favourite pair of slippers and dropping in to a comfy armchair, hot drink in hand. Lovely! Looking forward to seeing more in this series. Although i am now very worried this might lead to me placing a pre-order...
Thank you for this video, I've recently started painting minis to add to the depth to the experience of my board games. I'm not a very artistic person so my efforts so far have been a basic base coat followed by a shade. This video really helped me, with its paint by numbers format, explore some more advanced techniques and got me wondering how to understand the uses of colour and mixing paints for better highlights, creating s textured look and light sources. I will be attempting green crystals as I have some Citadel tesseract glow but I think I'll leave the NMM till a later date. Thanks again and I'm looking forward to the next Descent video
Hey Sarastro! I think it's kind of beautiful, that you are revisiting the Descent franchise. Also, your skill in teaching is better and better with every video. I was watching your videos when I started painting, and even now they are an inspiration for my own YT channel! Thank you!
There is no better advertisement than your videos. Watching this makes me want to buy the game just to paint this like you did. Amazing result with easy to replicate instructions. Another home-run sir. Please stay safe!
@@Sorastro One other thing... I've been painting for 40 years and this is the first time I've seen someone use medium as a small gap filler. Just tried it. It's so much easier than putty!
I love watching your videos. I can honestly say that watching you pushed my painting to the next level. Also, I watch your videos with my newborn, and your soothing voice combined with the music puts him out like a light. Thanks so much for what you do!
Love the no-nonsense tutorials. You make it look so easy. But, of course it's not. :-) I have picked the hobby up three years ago. My 50 year old eyes are making it more and more challenging. I appreciate your content. It drives me to paint more. (Solomon Kane figures up next for me.) Thanks for all you do.
Thank you sir! I really appreciate the kind comment. Fortunately these Descent minis are pretty big, so a lot easier to paint compared to Descent 2.0! :)
I was actually watching your old Descent playlist these days, glad to see more on the channel. Will definitely take inspiration from the crystals and the OSL on them to use on my Lumineth models.
Looking forward to seeing all the heroes from this game painted up by your style. Moving to more Scale 75 is on my list of hobby goals. Thank you for another splendid video tutorial!! 🖌🍚
Pronunciation is spot on this time, you nailed it ! :D /high five/ The end result is absolutely bluffing as always. I came to realize that I actually stop whatever I'm doing and sit back while watching your videos instead of having it in the background giving it a quick glimpse from time to time. The content is just *that* good not to give it my entire focus. Keep it up good sir, I'm looking forward to the next one !
That is a gorgeous model brought to life with your great work. I think I like this style/technique of using medium base tones with shades and highlights better than the dark base tones and building up, like on the Marvel figures. All of it looks amazing though.
A masterclass as usual, my dude. I wanted to paint an older Descent set for a friend but never had the time and I've since moved away. This makes me wish I could help him out still. Ah well, maybe some far flung future.
Best recommendation I have for ya, in your description and chapter markers. Add in a "0:00 Intro" time stamp to allow chapter markers in the video bar as well. It's extremely helpful. 👍 Beautiful painting as always!
I love the soundtrack for this video. It fits in with the soundtracks found on the Descent: Legends app. Also, I love that you are using Scale 75 paints!
Thank you so much for this great guide. Bought the whole scale75 set and painted the mini step by step. Its my best mini I painted. Still Not close to yours. The crystal is to hard. Cant wait for the rest of de descent miniatures!
Absolutely love your videos! Please be mindful though that the skill level keeps increasing, making it harder to follow for other painters. I personally loved your LotR Monsters video where you experimented with Contrast, because the effect was great without using advanced techniques. Most people can’t keep up with smooth OSL and NMM blending.
Thanks Danny! I do try to be mindful of that, which is why I was careful to paint Vaerix to a decent table-top standard first quite easily (after the Shades are applied) before presenting the OSL and NMM effects as optional, advanced steps. I thought this would be the best way to cater to the needs of painters of different levels 😀
@@Sorastro Yes that's fair, thank you. And of course, one of the great things of your videos is that it encourages painters to push themselves, me included. So maybe I was too quick with my comment: I might just try to follow along for the entire video on this guy! Will you be releasing videos on the other heroes and monsters as well for the new Descent? Can't wait to see what you do with the rest, and pick up my brushes!
With each new video, the thumbnails become better, more dynamic, and the color becomes more incomparable and divine 🙂 🙂 🙂 Thank you very much for the content, it's very nice to watch your videos 👍 👍 👍
@Sorastro - will you be doing all of the Descent minis again? You were my first tutorial painter I ever followed and helped me keep moving forward on that project sir!
@@Sorastro Hi Sorastro, you started painting some of the Descent 2 lieutenants a long time ago. Did you consider painting the other lieutenants for the base game? I still need your awsome guides for painting :D
Nice to see you back, Maestro! This was lovely, and had me furiously thinking of which of my Vallejo colors I could use to reverse engineer any and all of these results (and of course, adding a few more colors to the gotta get list). Good show!
Amazing work! I started painting miniatures for your videos and helps me a lot with the cuarentine stress. Your work surprise me every time I see it btw ♡
Great video! Your videos have kindled the urge to paint my own miniatures. I'm just trying to decide what mini to paint fist....cause I know my first few are going to awful and I don't want to ruin LotR JIME or Legends of the Dark. Leaning to starting with the Firefighters in Flash Point to being my learning models. Thank you for the inspiration and keep up the great videos
Wonderful tutorial yet again :-D This figure reminds me of the Zombicide Green Horde mini based on Storm from the X-Men that I have painted up in my display case :-) I haven't seen you paint a Descent figure for a while, so this has just made a nice day here in Ireland truly magical :-D Thank you from the heart of my bottom (Or thereabouts, anyway :->) for posting this video. You just get better every time, and it's so nice to see someone who isn't just painting the latest Games Workshop mini. Keep 'em coming, Mr S, and I'll keep jumping for joy every time I see a new video from you :-D :-D
I love what you do, your style is amazing. I started to follow your videos on Zombicide black plague. I notice that you paint a lot at the Scalecolor now. Why this choice ? Looking forward to discovering new videos and especially on the new Descent. Thanks a lot for your work. Happy painting :)
Well played FFG.... get one of the best mini painters on RU-vid to promote your product.... I wasn't going to buy this because it's only 4 players. But now.... now..... I'm torn. Good job man!
Have painted both heroes You made tutorials for and remaining 4 following Nerd Knights tutorials. Vaerix deffinitely came out best, they had nice tutorials for Chance and Galaden too. I only wish in this video the part about NMM staff was more detailed - I got lost few times, at least for me too many parts were cut out. If I had more time I would probably try it few more times, but in the end I just painted it with Vallejo Brassy Brass and did some edge highlight with Polished Gold. I didn't have more time to try NMM because I had this game for just a month, from incredible nice polish non-profit initiative - where You sign up chosing which box of games (there are more than 200 boxes prepared this season, each with like 3 games on average). Then, if You got randomly chosen (priority to people, who didnt win anything yet) You receive this game for some time (depending on time of year 10 days, 2 weeks or whole month) for FREE and then You just have to pay shipment to the next person. So I hope these painted minis will bring joy to next players, and Your tutorials definitely helped it happen!
Thanks Dustin! I know it's a bit of a wrench for some viewers when I explore alternative paint ranges, but I think it's an important part of our growth. I'm glad you're happy with the change! :)
@@Sorastro it makes it much more difficult for your long time viewers to follow along your tutorials. I have a lot of paint and dont' want to replace my range with expensive and hard to get Scalecolor.
@@alcovitch I fully appreciate that, believe me! But I can't stick to using a single range of paints for the rest of my life. Remember though that you don't have to use the exact same paints as me; just pick the nearest colours you have from whatever range you own and go for it! 😀
This looks awesome! I love how matte Scale 75 is. I haven't tried any of their paints yet but have been liking the matte finish from my Pro Acryl. Might have to give them a try! I always look forward to your videos and your content always inspires me to paint more :)
@@Sorastro Pro Acryl are great. Fantastic coverage, nice matte finish, and the perfect consistency right out of the bottle. The bottle caps are a bit irritating but other than that, they are nearly flawless. The transparent set is insane. Glazing has never been easier ☺️
Just got this game and about to start painting before we play. I was able to get all my journies in middle earth painted with your guidance :) will you be painting other heroes and villains from this big box game? Keep it up! 💯
Absolutely beautiful work. Also please tell me all the minis are good in this new game. Sir your work is second to none. Can’t wait for this game. Have fun!
Once again an Amazing video with a lot of tricks, even if, like the most descent v2'fans, i will probably not have this game. That's another story .... Thx for this ;)
Been following your work for awhile now and really appreciate your talent, as well as how you edit and organize your videos. As a request would it be possible to put in the description how long the process took you from start to finish for the different steps?
Thank you! I appreciate the compliment and the suggestion! The problem is that the filming process itself lengthens the painting process quite a bit, so I'm not sure I'd be able to give you accurate timings tbh.. :)
Lovely job as always, though it does make me sad we'll never see your take on Cursed City. Definitely might look into Descent at some point though, these are nice sculpts.
Thanks a lot! I was actually quite drawn to Cursed City as the minis do look lovely! But then I watched Joel Eddy's review and it really put me off.. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mK7ES7_Lxqg.html
@@Sorastro Damn, that's disappointing! Was hoping my partner and I would have fun with it after completing our Journeys in Middle Earth campaign. Oh well, at least the miniatures will be fun to work with - I was mainly in it for the painting anyway!
@@alcovitch It’s not what I would have thought, but until I play the game, I will reserve final judgment. So far, I like what I see. The price is about what I would expect for a game that is this size and comes from retail. We cannot compare its price to Kickstarter games. FFG doesn’t have the luxury of economy of scale, just its devoted install based of fans. FFG has a great track record, I used that for my purchase/preorder choice.
That is stunning Mark. The NMM is on point but the OSL is what did it for me on that one. Have you considered doing another version of the mini in a cave where the areas of glow are as painted and the rest of the mini is shadowed rather than highlighted?
Woow! A fabulous figure and a wonderful painting job. Thank you so much. -" Uau! Una figura fabulosa i un treball de pintura meravellós. Moltes gràcies. "
First of all, thank you for your work, it is a great help for hobbyists. one question, if you had to choose between rosemary&co series 8 size 2 or series 33 size 2, which would you choose? I see that in some videos it uses series 33 and in others series 8. Thank you so much.
Thank you for the kind words! That's a good question too! I actually love both the series 8 and 33. I used to use just the 33, then I had a dodgy batch so Rosemary and Co sent me some Series 8s to try which I really liked, so I switched for quite some time. Lately thought I've gotten back into the 33s.. so these days I usually have both on hand! 😁
Thank you! I usually soak the sponge thing, place the paper on top (and chase out the creases/bubbles etc), then lightly dab/wipe the surface with some kitchen towel so that the surface is only damp and not "wet" wet. :)
@@Sorastro when you say soak? As in submerged but with a thin layer of water on top? I think I'm under watering mine. The kitchen towel is a good trick!
