Love all your videos Joanne - thank you for your generosity! One question: when you let your painting dry and then went back in to highlight certain areas around the flower, did you wet the entire paper again and, if not, how to you manage to not get marks where the wet and dry paper meet? Thanks again for your generous spirit!!

I have been painting detailed architecture in watercolour for years and suddenly want a change = to looser work ! So I have chosen your vids to study because you explain, and show well, the steps. I would like to ask you if you think masking fluid is as good as wax please ? It is a pleasure to subscribe .
@JBOONTOM
@JBOONTOM 3 года назад
Firstly thank you for subscribing. My personal choice would be wax resist or skillfully leaving the whites, although this is not always easy. I find masking fluid is a good option but not for me as previously I have ruined my brushes and often found it difficult to remove from the paper without damage! I also think that masking can make us lazy I like to keep myself on my toes by thinking ahead and leaving the white paper. Masking fluid in my opinion makes a painting stiff and lacking in that loose fresh appeal that I so love 💘 If you are enjoying my tutorials please do check out my new Patreon channel www.patreon.com/joanneboonthomas

Could you give an example of a piece that is overworked and one that is not. I need a visual example because I have a feeling that I may overwork some of my pieces and I don't have the trained eye yet. Thank you !
@JBOONTOM
@JBOONTOM 2 года назад
Hi Monica Sorry I cant share an example here but my aim is to keep the painting loose and fresh. When a painting is overworked with too many washes they become dull and loose the transparency that is the essence of watercolour. The painting will turn opaque . Meaning it will not let any light through your paper, making the final product look dull and muddy.

Hi Tricia you don't need to buy wax resist I just use old bits of candle wax or a wax crayon. When applied to the paper it acts as a resist and keeps the paper white, once down it does not come off so use sparingly
