In this video, I demonstrate how to paint your brake calipers to make them look really cool. It's not entirely necessary to remove the calipers from the mounting bracket, which makes this job really easy. Remember to paint in a well ventilated area and to prep the surface well, painting is 95% prep and 5% paint! Enjoy the video and be sure to follow me on facebook and twitter

Good idea. A brush-on high heat paint is much smarter than the other postings, with a lot of disassembly and masking just for the thrill of a spray can.

I like the brush on type. A little less prepping vs spray. Though with a spray can I just mask around with a plastic bag or rags. Whatever I have laying around. And of course some tape.

Nice new appearance . I believe painting with a brush is way better than spraying . The paint sticks stronger and lasts longer .

I have an Rsx. I was thinking of painting the inner part of the brake drum aswell as the calipers red. Any opinions? It probably won't be very visible but I like that sense of subtlety.

by all means, go for it, I think it'll look good, it's all about the fine details

A quick Celsius to Fahrenheit trick is the double it and add 30. So 35c is 70+30 to give you100f give or take a couple degrees.

I have an all white car, so I was wondering which color would be a good to use to compliment the fusilage? great job BTW.
@6speeddakota
@6speeddakota 8 лет назад
It all depends on the colour of your wheels. I find that painting the calipers the same colour as the car usually results in an ugly colour mismatch. You can never go wrong with black regardless of wheel colour, but it won't stand out. Silver is also subtle, since it makes the calipers look like they're bare metal like the original, and it'll never look rusty. Red is a bit more of a stand out look since it generally contrasts well with black or aluminum wheels, but I've had red on my Dakota for years and it looks really good with the yellow body and silver wheels. Personally, I think that yellow won't compliment a white car well, and I don't really like the blue colour that duplicolor offers, it's more of a light blue than a deep midnight blue. So it's your choice, black or silver for subtlety, or red for standout, that's my suggestion.

***** Thanks for the insight, it helps plenty! I was thinking blue, but it could be risky, and like you said, duplicolor doesn't make a good blue. I think it might be a toss up between red or black! Thanks again.

Sentinel Weapon bright lemon green would look really good on a white car and any wheel color. look it up

do you think using spray paint would be better or is this way better, thanks.
@6speeddakota
@6speeddakota 8 лет назад
Spraying would be better, but it requires removing the caliper to do it correctly and not get overspray all over the car
@loku1125
@loku1125 11 лет назад
wow thats very accurate, how do you explain that -40 is the same for celcius and farenheit? it has to work all along the board and cant only apply to 30 celcius
@dahkah20
@dahkah20 9 лет назад
Use a heat gun after your first coat of paint. heat it up hot to the touch . then apply your second coat, heat that coat up also but not as hot as the first so some gloss can be retained . using the heat will dry the paint fast so you can drive your car 30 mins to an hour after

Thanks for the video. Did you have problems with noticeable brush strokes? Unfortunately i'm kind of a perfectionist haha
@6speeddakota
@6speeddakota 10 лет назад
I never had any issues with brush stroke marks, the paint is pretty runny, it lays flat almost immediately. If you really want a smooth look, you can smooth out the casting bumps with a cartridge roll or something and it'll really looks smooth and shiny

is it better to use a brush or spray paint ?
@6speeddakota

Either one works fine. I like the brush because it's way less masking. The brush strokes flatten out and it looks smooth when you use the brush on stuff

Spray paint will get you the best result depending on the number of coats you add

Can I use sander(portable) to sand caliper with 220 grits first?
@6speeddakota
@6speeddakota 9 лет назад
Shipuden You can sand it with 220 grit, but the portable sander is probably going to be much too large to get into the grooves, nooks and crannies.

I can't tell you about how it lasted on this car because it was totaled about 6 months ago, but it's lasted just great on my truck for over 3 years now. It's not so much about the product, but how the surface is prepped to begin with
@whiplash308
@whiplash308 10 лет назад
Well good to know you got it at a Canadian Tire. I'm also a Canadian, so that's good knowledge. I now have some decent reference should I not go with caliper covers instead.

whiplash308 I say paint, I've never tried caliper covers before, but that's my honest opinion. I think the paint will last longer and will look better for longer. But, it's entirely up to you

@6speeddakota 8 лет назад
The paint on my truck is starting to peel a bit, but it's been 5 years so far and the wheel rubs against the caliper when putting it on, so it's lived a long life and probably 60,000 miles. It's all in the prep work to get a long lasting paint job
