Great job, I'm about to paint a guitar the same sparkly way you did. As a professional car painter I would like to give you just a small piece of advice if you want it... If you want a real smooth shiny finsh and non of that orange peel try using a hard block as a backing for your sanding paper. That way it becomes smooth and flat as glass, just a tip. Great job again!
This is the best tutorial of all, on how to paint your guitar with metal flake, very well explained. I congratulate you and thank you very much for sharing it... Don't waste your time watching other tutorials, this is the good one
Lol I love how you’re wearing a respirator but the kid standing a foot behind you is like “nah, I’m good.” Looks fantastic though! I’d like to do the same on a bass I have lying around. Thanks for the video!
Love it! Finish looks great! Found your video because I'm thinking of doing something similar myself - how much flake to clear did you mix? I think I would want a lighter amount of flake and more black showing through.
Thank you very much my friend, it's actually like 2 spoon of metal flake, you can put less, then you will see more black. Good luck with your project my friend 🙏
Came out looking amazing. Wish I could send you my guitar to change to holographic. I live in an apartment I don’t have access to a garage or open area for painting. I use a Music Man cutlass HSS and it’s a boring creme color :)
Thank you very much my friend, I'm actually a lawyer, and I'm painted it when the covid 19 was started. I wish I had more time to work on my other guitars 🙏 Thank you very much my friend im really appreciate it.
Hello ! Very great color! For the 5 layers of clear coat, did you use the same mix ? (2k clear coat + hardener + thinner) ? Thanks for the video, i'll try on my telecater
Hello my friend.. The answer is yes, between the layers I sprayed every single minute one time to the open air, because the spray gun and the clear coat could be dry inside the gun.
Looks awesome dude... Nice tutorial. Question: How big a compressor do i need for a spray gun like that? Yours does not look that big... Is it a LVLP gun?
Thank you very much my friend, actually I'm using here with a medium size compressor, not the big one.. The gun its a regular cheap one, but for the flake you need a big nozzle, like 1.8 mm, Before you start spray, try to spary first on some surface.. 🙏
Sprayibg the metal flakes, how long between coats? And after the metal flakes how long did you wait before putting the clear over? Did you need to sand/scuff the flakes before putting the clear over? Great finish btw, loved this video
Thank you my friend.. Between the flakes I waited something like 15 minutes, but in this time you must to clean up your spray gun, it could be closed.. And after the flake coat I waited one day, I'm not sanded before the clear coat.. Good luck with your job, hope you will share with us to..
thanks for the inspiration and sharing this video - i like the color and the result is amazing looking!!! I would also like to do something like that at home at the kitchen table, but I think without all the equipment that I saw in his video it's quickly kamikaze))) because the guitar with the finish sounds significantly different? or has the sound stayed the same?
Thank you my friend.. the guitar actually sound really amazing.. it’s difficult to me to say there is a difference sound.. but you definitely should try ☺️
Hello my friend, I using here with 2 kind of metal flake.. 1. Some holographic metal flake that I founded on eBay.. 0.08 size.. 2. Lil daddy Roth metal flake - toxic tailfin, 0.015 size.
That turned out beautiful, and it gave me some inspiration - i have the same variax in sunburst. I might end up doing something similar to this. How tough was it to put the electronics back in? I've built plenty of guitars but haven't messed with the variax's innards.
Hello my friend, actually I'm using here with a cheap spray gun, I'm not a big expert, all the project was Experimental.. I saw a lot of videos on RU-vid to learn the spray technique.. About the compressor.. I borrowed from my neighbor his compressor, it's not a professional, but it's doing the work.
@@gabrielyifrach I’m debating the idea a lot because I’ve never seen a guitar that’s done that way and I think it would look cool to have cracks of glitter color show thru a solid color of crackle
Always like watching different guitar paint jobs but always notice wrong ways of tuning a guitar with a tremolo bridge when I see it . She have guitar sitting like your going to play it then tune unless it’s an hard tail. Just saying may help u keep tune .
BEEN PAINT FOR SOME TRIME MY DD OWNED SHOP Shere in the states why are you masking off ythe cavitys ? i hazve only done that once never again paint the rwhole thing because if you ont and the edges are not getting good adhesiin it wikl chip and m peeel right off. iu make my own conductive past from powderd graphitd and acrylic paint water based works great with low reading to.you are actually makig more work for your self .
Having just done this myself, those layers of paint add up quick, especially with the metal flake because you have to bury it in the clear coat otherwise it’ll have a texture like sandpaper. Probably better off taking it back to bare wood
