HOW TO: Pair iPhone Bluetooth to Volkswagen (All 2013 models)

Hi, I'm Tannis Bachman and I'm here at Bachman Volkswagen with Drew and he's going to show you how to hook up the iPhone Bluetooth in the 2013 Passat. Bluetooth is really easy to hook up in the 2013 Volkswagen models. There's a few variations, but with the Passat, this should be a pretty good example of how to do it. The first thing you want to do is, you have to make sure you do this service within the first three minutes of starting your car. So, we'll go ahead and take out the iPhone. We're going to open up your phone and go to the Settings menu. There's going to be a location for Bluetooth, just make sure your Bluetooth is on. Once we go into that we're going to turn the car on or into auxiliary mode. So now your phone is going to be searching for the Bluetooth device. When it comes up it's going to come up as VW Phone. Now all you do to hook it up is on your phone press VW Phone, and it's going to ask you to Pair it on there. You're also going to get on your display something that says, Connect to Your iPhone. All you have to do is press Pair on your phone and simultaneously press the Ok button to connect with the phone. It's going to make sure that's the correct passcode, it's 931447 in this example. You press Ok one more time and now your phone is connected. Now what it's going to do is it's actually going to download your phonebook, it's going to download your contacts, and it's going to download all of your music as well. So, that's it. All you have to do to download your phone is a few easy steps. If you have any questions feel free to ask me or any other Volkswagen representatives and we'll be happy to help you.

ONLY.. ..when my phone asks me to pair..I say pair on my phone... then on my car.it displays the question... when I press the ‘ok’ button on the stirring wheel.. doesn’t actually responds ..clicking the ok. Hello, thanks for the video! Via Bluetooth, can you also connect an app like Waze to the display- just the auditory voice commands from it atleast? Or do you need the cable always to connect your phone and hear Waze from the car?

Hey guys, can you please check if 2009 Scirocco with RCD 310 has Bluetooth enabled? I can activate BT Audio within the system menu but cannot start any pairing activities or find the car when scanning bluetooth devices on my iPhone. Help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

We sadly don't have the Scirocco here in the States, but I have an idea that might help. We see a lot of used VWs that have difficulty pairing bluetooth because the system is already full of devices -- it can only store like 5 phones. First thing we recommend is removing all devices, even your's if it's paired. Once there are zero devices in the system, try to re-pair your phone. That tends to work most of the time so I hope it helps!

Hello I have a passat 2010 2.0 automatic model , with built in bluetooth premium device but doesn' t wanna pair with my Iphone 5s factory unlocked model , I also consulted the VW passat service in my hometown but nobody was able to fix the problem , the car is seeing my iphone , but dont wanna pair

Hmmm... that's a doozy KUDOR. The 5S is definitely a compatible phone, but I'm not certain if it being factory unlocked changes anything - I would guess not but I've not ran across that issue yet. You might consider contacting Volkswagen of America (assuming you are in US) and see if they can help.

+Kee Skeezy A few things to try: 1) Try to unpair and then re-pair the phone. Sometimes that works. 2) Start playing music on your phone THEN try to get the stereo to work -- it needs to be playing on your phone for the system to recognize. 3) If you the regular radio, not the touchscreen, go to Settings, then keep scrolling over to when it says something like Bluetooth Streaming, make sure that's turned on. If you have the touchscreen, hit Audio until it says bluetooth and it should start playing. 4) If none of that works, check your phone. Swipe up from the bottom to get the command center and make sure the audio is playing to the car -- you may have to switch a setting there. 5) If none of that works, we'd recommend visiting your local VW dealer. Most of the time you can get a salesperson to help set things right. Hope this helps, Kee!

Hi I looked at my car manuals and went into the cars Bluetooth deleted the two phones that were paired on before and hey presto my iPhone 5 works perfectly now thought I would let you know might help someone else 😊

Thanks for the question! I checked with one of our VW experts and apparently in 2008, VW decided to produce all vehicles with the Bluetooth button whether they were actually equipped with Bluetooth or not. Our best recommendation is to run your VIN to see all the features your Passat has equipped, which can be done at your local VW service dept. Hope this helps!

Hey Tinnybash! I'm assuming you are overseas as we don't have the Polo in the US market. I would assume it should function the same, but I'm not for certain. The iPhone 5C is definitely compatible with our systems so it should work with your Polo. Best bet would be to swing by your local dealer and any trained salesperson should be able to set you right up. Hope this helps!

Piotr Weiss The iPhone 4S should work just fine. I would suggest swinging by your local VW dealer so they can run your VIN and make sure your Passat actually has Bluetooth installed. In 2007 it was an add on. If it has it, they should be able to help you get set up.

Your 2010 Jetta most likely doesn't have Bluetooth connectivity. Although, you should have an AUX port so playing music should still be an option.

+Mayte Ramirez This demo was done on a 2013 Passat and I'm pretty sure the entertainment system changed between the 2006 and 2013 models so this set up process will be different from your 2006. I'd recommend running by your local VW Dealer - they should be able to double check that your Passat is equipped with Bluetooth (it wasn't a standard feature then) and can help connect if it is installed. Okay and let's say your iphone is connected to your car via bluetooth and you're listening to your deezer playlist, is it possible to switch songs using the commands on the steering wheel, or do you have to use the phone to do so?

Hi, I have a 2013 Jetta, since I paired my iPhone 5S, I am unable to answer a call coming in via call waiting....I will see the 2nd call on the car display, but when I press the button to pick up that 2nd call, I get an error...I think the error says "this function is unavailable". I have paired mine to the handsfree using the default code 0000 but the stereo doesn't recognize a bluetooth option for music. The only thing that works is answering the phone and hearing it through the speakers.

+Bachman Auto Group I have the same problem. My phone works fine when I'm calling someone (sound goes though the speakers) but on my stereo the bluetooth button for music is greyed out. The weird thing is, every time I get into my car, my music app pulls up on my iPhone like its wanting to connect to play my music! I'm so confused. I have a 2010 passat. Please help if you can!

+Lexi Tori Hmmm... that it really odd, Lexi. First thing I would try would be to un-pair your phone then re-pair. You will need to remove your the connection from both your phone and your car, then start the pairing process from the beginning. If that doesn't work, it might be worth swinging by your local VW dealer to see if someone can help double check your car's comparability with streaming music.

We don't have the Polo here in the US, but we can surely try our best to help! One thing that tends to get people a lot is the setting on the phone. For safety, try this when you are stopped - make your call through the car's bluetooth and then look at your phone. It will probably show something on the screen prompting if you want to play audio through the bluetooth connection, the headset, or the phone's speaker. Make sure it's on the bluetooth connection. Let us know if that fixes the issue!

Thanks for your answer! Unfortunately I tried to that too and there is no menu to delete btw profiles on my dashboard or radio. I also tried to hard reset the bt module under the seat, restore factory settings and nothing worked... I'm seriously thinking on change the RCD510 on my car to an android radio... but its a little expensive still. Thanks anyway!

Dangit, I was hoping that would take care of things. Really the only other thing I could recommend would be to take the Scirocco to your preferred VW service shop to have it checked out. The downside of that is that you could be paying a decent amount of money to fix an 8 year old stereo. Comparing to a new deck, it might turn out to be close in price. But new would provide an upgraded interface and Android Auto, which is great =)

I have RCD510 from GOLF MKVI 2009, i can only pair my "Samsung S4 mini - android 4.4.2" and use it for calls and phone book but cannot make a "BT-Audio" to work, it stays grayed out all the time. It is enabled in the setup menu of the RCD510. What could be the problem? Are there limitations? Or i have old version of RCD firmware software?

Shaopeng Li Hi Shaopeng! I would have to have more information about your particular Tiguan to be able to answer that. My best suggestion would be to find your VIN and contact your local VW dealer - they will be able to pull up all the information on your 2013 Tiguan and let you know if it has Bluetooth. Hey there ciike1! Unfortunately we don't have the Up models here in USA so I'm honestly not sure how to help you. I think your best bet would be to check and see if your Up's bluetooth is phone calls only or is capable of streaming music - some of the first Bluetooth models only did phone. Your music library size shouldn't matter. Good luck!

Hi John! So this video was shot in a 2013 Passat - the setting should be similar but might not be exactly the same. Also, we don't have the Polo here in USA so unfortunately I don't have anything that I can test to figure it out. BUT! I can recommend one thing to try and this tends to be the issue a lot of people run into. The car's stereo can only hold a record of a few phones, typically about 5. So if your Polo has had previous owners or you have switched phones, the system is possibly already "full" of paired devices. What you want to do is navigate to where it will show you all paired devices and remove ALL of them, start it clean. Then try to pair your phone. That tends to help 90% of the time so I hope that takes care of you.

There is no actual option to view 'paired phones' I'm honestly very confused on how I should pair it. I have an RCD 510. After reading lots of forums online of people having similar issues, I think the issue might be that the vehicle does not have bluetooth kit or something. If this is the case, what bluetooth kit would I install to make the MDF (Or whatever it's called) pop the phone option up, to connect.

I have another person messaging me right now about an 09 Scirocco with the RCD510 radio having the same issue. I'm not familiar with that model radio and since you are talking about a 7/8 year old car, we don't have too many sitting around to test out. Unless you can figure out a fix from the forums you read, the only thing I can really recommend is a trip to your preferred VW service shop. However, diagnosing an old radio and paying for repairs could be a similar cost to just buying a new deck so you might have to take that into consideration. Personally, if it were my car and my decision, I'd go for a new stereo deck - it might similar cost as repairing or maybe a bit more depending on what you choose, but you would get a brand new stereo with up to date, features, Bluetooth standards, and possibly Android Auto/Apple CarPlay built in.

+Cameron Hill (Camii) Hmm... That's a little weird. Best thing I would say to try is to unpair the phone from the Jetta (on your phone and on your car), then try to pair from scratch and see if that starts working.

+Louka Reff Hey Louka! We actually don't have the Polo model here in the US, but if you were to try anything I would start by erasing all devices from the system and then re-pair your iPhone. If that doesn't fix your issue, we'd recommend you swing by your local VW dealer for some help.

First thing we always recommend is to start the system clean. It's been a while since I've used that system, but you should be able to navigate to a menu that lists all the paired devices - these could be from previous owners that never cleared them off. Remove all paired devices, even your own if it's in there just to start fresh. Once the menu shows no paired devices, try to pair your iPhone 6S. It should work then, but if not, write us again and we can continue to help.

Hey there, most likely your 2009 does not have Bluetooth. If it did, you would probably have to pair it using a voice assistant, maybe check your vehicles owners manual!

+Henry Schoenfield Yes! Very good question, Henry. You can pair up to 4, maybe 5 phones, can't remember which but definitely multiple devices. Keep in mind one important thing: the LAST phone you pair will be the PRIMARY phone. So let's say you pair your phone then pair my phone, the moment I get in your Volkswagen MY phone will take over control. So whomever's phone you want to be primary, make sure they are the last to pair. Hope this helps and thanks for the question!

yeah I have no steering wheel buttons at all on my 2011 Golf. I've had it nearly 2 years and am just setting up bluetooth audio, but I can't delete the old profile/create a new one. Where is the OK/select button if I don't have the steering wheel buttons? It's kind of annoying having to go through the whole process of connecting every time I get in the car

Hi! i have a 2013 CC and my iphone 5s worked well with the car's bluetooth. Now I received a Samsung Note 4 and I tried many times to setup the bluetooth with it...No way...I even unpaired my iphone 5s before that. Please help...Richard

Sorry for the delay Richard! The Galaxy Note 4 should be able to pair with the bluetooth system. If it absolutely will not work, I would recommend running by your nearest VW dealership. All of the sales staff should be trained on how to set that up for you and it should be a quick in and out trip. Good luck!

We'd recommend double checking that your Tiguan has Bluetooth equipped. In 2011 it wasn't a standard feature and if you don't have steering wheel buttons its quite possible your Tiguan doesn't have it available.

I have a 2010 golf, I tried this and it didn't work. I don't have buttons on my steering wheel though. But in the center console it has a button that says phone, but all it does is mute everything.

You can find the aux port either in the glove box on the right corner in the top or in the middle console if I pronounced it right

I have that same year and model! To get to the AUX port, go to the passenger side of the car and open the glovebox. In the upper left corner of the cavity where you just lowered the glovebox, you should see a white plate that faces downward. In the middle of that plate is a 3.5mm AUX jack!

Hallå! Thanks for reaching out. First thing I would try is to start fresh - if your phone is paired with the car, unpair it, then remove all paired phones from the Touareg. You should be able to go into the bluetooth menu, select user, and then delete all the phones it has stored. Then try to pair your phone. Sometimes we find that the VW has too many phones paired already which blocks you from adding one. Let us know how that goes.

Hello Tks, for your quick answer. I'have try to remove paired device from my iphone and tried it again. Still not working. I did a spelling mistake it is not written "fonction not available" but "no compatible fonction" I think my touareg (new gen) simply doesn't get this functionality but this is very surprising for a vehicle of this price..

Yea, that is odd for a Touareg. They typically get all the add ons. I'd recommend swinging by your local VW dealer and see if they would mind pulling a build sheet - they can look them up with the VIN. That should confirm what features your Touareg has.

Parth Shah Hey Parth! Unfortunately the S model won't store any of the music or contacts from your phone. However, it will still stream music when you play from your phone and can even recognize names that are stored on your phone. So you should be able to use that functionality, you just won't be able to scroll through names on your Passat.

This was shot in a 2013 Passat and the MK6 in the US was from 2009-2014. You should be able to use this same method.

I Use a 2014 model vw Polo. The top end. I tried connecting both my android as well as iPhone 5s with my vw RCD 320 Radio edition 05.2014. The phones get connected to the player but the contacts don't sync. It fails to sync contacts on both the phones please help

Carmen Fahlmann Hey Carmen! You typically get the passcode when you purchase the car and some people will write it in their owner's manual. If you don't have your passcode, you will probably need to make a trip to your local VW dealer to have them help set it. Typically they will require you to bring proof of ownership, so make sure to have that handy just in case it's needed. Good luck!
