I am currently waiting on my final approval from AFPC! The best advice I can give to people in the comments is hold your recruiter and everyone else involved accountable. I constantly called and asking where they are at with signing documents. Do not settle for excuses or the run around get solid answers, especially if you are expected to start a new job immediately after like myself.
Hey! Im palace chasing currently, my 1288 took 3 weeks for my commander to sign as well. Currently waiting on my ISR to give me FINAL Approval. I picked a new job to crosstrain into as im palace chasing. My gaining unit just signed my final paperwork in order for me to start to out processing. The paperwork is no joke…takes a long time which people do not understand! Congrats on getting out of active duty!
Also, the 422 was terrible. Because my gaining unit needed it in order for me to crosstrain or even accept me. I started working on getting my 422….8 months ago and just got it. They never answer phones or emails. Ever. Finally got it, i was so thankful. This john was so hardd. So thankful to be getting final approval this week
Hello! I am also trying to palace chase AND cross train in the process. Is there a resource where I can find that information because it (obviously) seems more involved
Very informative! thanks for this video I'm thinking of Palace Chasing within the next year and a half. My question is when should I start my palace chase application if I want to go Guard by Fall of 2024?
Hello there! Well the process only gives you about 90 days from start to finish to complete it or else they make you wait another year to apply. So you can apply around then. BUT I would make sure you look into the big appointments before hand to make sure they don’t have ridiculous wait times (like with getting your medical clearance (AF422) and TAP done). I know for me they almost couldn’t fit me into a TAP class within my time frame. Stuff like that you can do within the year and get it done and over with before you apply. They expect you to take TAP when you are within a year of getting out anyway. Also, speak with the gaining unit and see if there is anything they need before they will give you a signature because you will need that before they will give you the second endorsement which you will need for your final approval. I hope this is helpful! And good luck!! (:
@@daisyquiroz4777 I think you can either do that or go in a different job but you’ll go back to tech school when there is an available slot. I would talk with your potential gaining unit ISR and see what they are looking for and what the exact requirements are. Good luck with everything!
Hi, I loved your video!! Would you be willing to stay in contact while I go through the process just incase I have any questions that might come along the way? I am a SrA in active duty by the way, and so far everything has been pretty scary to jump into.
Thank you for this video!! Also, I have a lot of questions!! I sent my 1288 signed by commander to my ISR and told me to post all of my paperwork on VMPF and apply for palace chase but my gaining unit hasn’t signed it! Is that something I should do before?
Hello! You have to have a signature from your commander, the gaining unit commander, and then the ISR before you get the final approval. While you are waiting on these signatures it is a good idea to work on getting all your paperwork together and appointments scheduled because it can take awhile to get through your outprocessing. You only get 60 or 90 days AFTER the final approval to finish everything before they canx your request. If they canx your request then you have to wait a year to reapply to palace chase. (Some of the appointments like TAP and some medical can take up to weeks to get). I hope this makes sense and helps. PS: your ISR can submit for an extension so if you need it ask them about it (:
Thank you for this video. I’m currently AD , that is stationed overseas, I think I want to focus on school and different things so I’m going reserves. I wanna stay overseas though , so I’m hoping it’s possible .
@14rodane I was already past my half way mark when I was applying but I do believe you have to finish half of your current contract (3 years of 6 year contract or 2 years of 4 year contract) before you can start the process. I would double check but I’m pretty sure it’s the still the same! Hope this helps and good luck! (:
Hello! Sorry for the late reply. I actually reached out to my gaining unit first before I started the vMPF application. I wanted to get an estimated time of how long they would take and what they needed from me so I could start on it before I started the “clock”. If that makes sense. Hope this helps and good luck! (:
Sorry I just realized I didn’t answer the second part of that! My separation was the day before my reenlistment into the guard. I took 30 days of leave after I finished outprocessing my active duty base and then reported to my gaining unit so there was no laps in service.
Dang, I was trying to see about the post process. After you transition, how long until you hear from your new base? Am I supposed to wait for a notification from someone to tell me when to report for drill? It’s been about a month and some weeks since I went active to reserve, and I haven’t heard anything.
Hey! So you should be in contact with your new unit during the process. They have requirements for you before you can be gained to the unit. The ISR should direct you on what to do. What was the last thing you heard?? Do you know anyone at your new unit? You should have a sponsor you can reach out to
@@tumeliasmiles the last thing I heard was I should hear from someone 30 days after my DOS. I don’t know since I’m reserves if it’s different than the guard, but my ISR just told me to email the FSS at my new unit. I still don’t know anyone there 🥲. Thanks for the reply!
@@HersonMasferrer of course! Since you don’t know anyone there you can also Google the ISR for the new base and they can probably get you in contact with the right people in the new unit (if you don’t know who to contact). Some ISR’s can be a little apathetic or unconcerned with others situations which can such when trying to get help or get things done. I’m sure everything will work itself out. Good luck! (:
You would have to start the process over. So, reapplying for palace chase through vMPF. (If the process is still the same from when I did it.) Hope this helps and good luck!
Thank you for this video. I'm currently AD and want to join the Florida ANG. I still have 2 1/2 years left of my Active Duty contract, however, I have 2 years left in my duty station. How soon could I apply for Palace Chase?
Hey! I’m glad the video was helpful! If I remember correctly, you can start palace chase at the halfway mark of your contract. So if it was 6 year contract then 3 years into it and if it was 4 years, 2 years into it. BUT I would double check with the Florida ANG ISR for the AFSC that you are trying to go into. You can also speak to your current ISR at your base and see what they say. Reaching out to the Florida ANG ISR will help to start your process by putting your name on their radar. I hope this helps and good luck!! (:
Can you submit for the palace chase request before your half way mark so that you can leave right on your half way mark or do you have to wait till you've already finished half-way through your enlistment to submit anything?
I do not think they will approve you if you do not meet the requirements. And if you apply and they do not approve it then you have to wait another year. BUT I do not know for sure and would suggest you ask the ISR on base just to be sure. I hope this helps (:
Do you have 90 days from the time you get tentative approval? Or 90 days from the day you get official approval? I’ve been tentatively approved for a couple of months and my gaining unit won’t sign anything or assign me to a job until I am approved. Is that correct?
@@patricejones5510 If I remember correctly, it is from the time you get your official approval not the tentative. But I would verify with the ISR! Things may have changed since I went through this. I remember mine took a while but during that time is when I was able to get a head start on outprocessing. You can talk with someone at the MPF about what you can do to get started with everything or what is holding up the process.
@@patricejones5510 my gaining unit wasn’t able to do anything until my current unit did their processes and until I had the official approval as well. So I’m pretty sure that is normal. I already knew where I was going because I was staying in my same job so I’m not sure what your agreement is with your gaining unit on why you don’t have an “assigned” job.
@@tumeliasmiles I will have to cross train, which is fine with me! Right now it seems like I’m starting on the right track of starting to do what I can to out process since I only have 6 months until my requested separation. Thank you so much for the video!
If I remember correctly. No. But you may be able to talk to the ISR once you get the approval and see if you can extend your date of separation. I would ask!
They ship everything back home for free. If you go to a different state then they will ship everything but only up to the cost of what it would be to go to your state of residency. So if there is a cost difference you would have to pay the rest. I hope this helps (:
@@ricanj4587 your ISR is the one who should have sent it off. He or she should know if it got approved but usually it takes a couple of days you should know any day now! (:
This helped a lot, this needs to be put on blast! Everyone needs to know this! Also could I reach out to you via af email? I have terminal leave as well, ahhhhh so much stuffff
I’m so glad that you were able to get through the majority of the process! It really is no joke trying to go through this. I couldn’t find much on it so that’s why I made this video. I’m glad it is helpful to you on your journey! If you need to contact me you can always comment here or send me DMs on Instagram @ Tumeliasmiles Since I am part time now I don’t see my emails often. I wish you all the luck and congrats on your palace chase my friend! (:
Yes. If you apply to palace chase at your 3 year mark you should be qualified to still get all your benefits. I would verify with MPF or your ISR to be sure but as far as I know you should be good! (: Good luck!!
@@Kebinnugget from how I understand it, no. You have to choose one or the other. Skillbridge puts you into a job for your last 6 months and palace chase cuts your active contract to finish serving in a guard or reserve unit. So verify that with your career advisor or ISR who can also put you in contact with the career advisor. Also, if your ISR at your base is a dbag or too busy call a different one at another base! Make sure to get all your questions answered. (:
Any idea what happens if you're changing your AFSC while palace chasing? I m doing one and m just at the step that I got approved from AFPC and now waiting for the gaining unit to get my things settled.
What exactly would you like to know? Like when would you go to tech school or if the process is different if you are going into another career when you get to your new base? Let me know what your questions are (:
So I was trying to go PJ at the rescue squadron. But figured out they don't have any slots. So I finally went into the same AFSC and following the 20th SF group at Alabama which is Army Guard for SF hopefully will get my BCT date next year to fort Benning. I'm going to go to the palace chase to DC. My status is I'm waiting on a response from AFPC for orders. So I can start out processing. My final out is Jan 09 I plan to complete by Dec 15 I wanna join my civilian job by Dec 15 in DC.
It's complex just because first, I go to the palace chase in order to get my civilian gig. Following, put in for blue to green. Will share with you the entire journey once I get it done. But I appreciate your info It helped me a lot. It's a hurry up and wait game. Makes you nervous as it's hard to deal with lots of floating time lines in front
@@parthpatel4942 Yeah the whole process is very stressful and all over the place but I hope everything goes well! It sounds like you have a plan and A LOT to do, so please come back and let me know how it all goes and if there is any additional information you learn that could help someone else! (: Good luck!
@@tumeliasmiles I got my orders but still have concerns for me to take leave as I want to start my civilian job ASAP. So questions about the terminal leave I don't have more than 16 days and they aren't allowing me permissive TDY leave. But yes from my experience, 422 is a must! Also initial separation brief is now on Myfss that sucks but I did not have to do anything on it as I don't have flight time etc.
Hello there! Well if you applied for palace chase and they have a spot for you as a DSG then you would just go as DSG if you wanted that. But if at any point you don’t want to go that route or do not get the required endorsements then your palace chase would get cancelled and you would need to wait a year to apply again. I hope this answers your question.
I am so sorry I didn’t see this till now! I hope you were able to figure out what a DSG is but if not it stands for Drill Status Gaurd. Which just means you work only on drill days. So part time instead of full time. Hope that helps!
