How to Park a single trailer in ETS2/ATS? 

What the taught me in trucking school: Top of the steering wheel = front of trailer, bottom = back. Move accordingly. 😊

I found it easier to do by ‘hanging out the window’ and looking back at the trailer, it partly eliminates the left is right and right is left complication :) But in the end, the most important thing is to keep practicing and you’ll get good at it sooner than you’d think :)

Straightening the 5th wheel coupling joint before you start reversing is the most important thing. I call it the artic driver's wiggle. Also, if you can see too much trailer in the left mirror, turn the wheel to the left. If you can see too much trailer in the right mirror, turn the wheel to the right, is advice i got when i was learning in real life.

1st person cam is pretty immersive while aided by leaning out cam. The challenge is when you gotta park from the blind side when you gotta rely on the mirrors. But then again, practice makes perfect, just quicksave before approaching the destination company's parking lot.

The main thing is to enjoy it too; I've backed 2 real trailers now (experience days) and it taught me that reversing accurately can be both fun and satisfying. As you say don't be hard on yourself; that just takes away the enjoyment. truck slow; steering fast as the instructors both told me. 1 on 2 off; that means to straighten the trailer up for every turn you put on the wheels you need to take 2 the other way. Good tips and also; we have it a little harder than real life as our mirrors (for most people anyway) are much smaller than the real thing; believe me; they are huge on a real lorry and you can see so much better in them.

Of course, a proper approach and setup for the chosen parking spot is important. The mistake is thinking just steering inputs at the front of the rig will do the job when you should really be watching the trailer tandems for steering inputs to guide the trailer into position, just remember your steering inputs will be reversed.

For those who are aiming for a real trucking career like I am, you can challenge yourself by trying to park the trailer on first person and using the mirrors. You can use the camera 2 as a way to believe you get out of the truck to see how you're doing so far.

Another pro tip: Best way to tell if you are in the spot, this mainly works loading docks like the depot's like in this video is that when are back into the dock the white lines on the dock should be seen in both side mirrors. Never be afraid to use the "get out and look" method. Bumping the dock pads can give you better input on where you need to be and tell you wheather you are too far to the left or right and/or are crooked. Both coners ends the trailer should be in between the lines on the dock doors and again the lines should be visible in both side mirrors. In some docks depending on how SCS created the docs there's may not be a line or it's too far in or over so if can't see the dock door in either mirror after you bump it you are golden(but this does not apply with wide dock doors as they are different. This helped me a lot in my rookie days.

This tutorial will be so useful not Just In ETS2, but in all truck games.. I usually set off as slow as i can and more likely to be backing up slowly. Then I hangout the drivers head on the window side and Then while backing up im using both mirrors

Actual truckdriver here, i started with steer axles when i started driving and they are much easier to reverse with than fixed ones

I'm doing it without problems since 2016 (if not even sooner). Recently I was bored, so I had chosen the shortest job (it was 3 minutes of IRL driving between cities) and I decided to reverse it whole without going forward (after I left loading ramp and had a chance to turn around) and reversed ot whole to Trameri and parked there. Whole job was without stopping (except choosing how to park the trailer), but also without going forward after first turn.

what I found is that its easier to reverse when you are at the outside camera looking at the front of the truck and seeing where its reversing. Its easy to re-adjust the turn when you can see the tire's whether if they are turned or straight on. So that you know when you did the slight turn to re-adjust then return it to straight on to continue backing up. The last thing you wanna do is back up while the tires are on a slight turn and it messes your maneuver. Being in the cab FPS view of the driver and just using the mirrors, is a bit more difficult.

Slow and steady is the way to go, you do it once you master the art

I always hanging out the window and remember left for right and right for left

1. Make your approach as straight as possible, the less you have to correct. 2. Don't make the mistake of steering in to much when going backwards. 3. Either use your mirrors or look out your window to reverse in. 4. The slower your approach the easier to correct the trailer.

just imagine you're pushing a supermarket trolley. you're the cabin, with your hand act as the back axle, and the trolley itself as a trailer.

Nice video as alwyas Milan. It is a huge step for the player once they master the parking process. It took time for me too but practice makes perfect as always.

Best trick I've learned in backing trailers is to put your hand at the bottom of the wheel. Then you simply turn the wheel from there in the direction you want the back of the trailer to go.

Only time i really mess up is in ATS with the 53 feet trailers. It takes a while before you see the results of turning a 53' trailer when turning the wheel.

What I've found helps is to think about if from a geometry perspective. You can think of the trailer as a beam whose position is adjusted at two pivot points being the center of the trailer axles and the 5th wheel. When back into a spot, I try to get the center of the trailer axles (center axle on a tri axle drailer and in between the two axles on a 2 axle trailer or center two axles on a 4 axle trailer) in line with the center of the spot then work on manuevering the 5th wheel to be in line by cutting the wheel and whatnot. With European trucks having much shorter wheelbases than their American counterparts you can swing around the front of the truck much faster once you have the trailer axles and 5th wheel lined up in the spot. With longer wheel base trucks, even when you cut the wheel all the way to either side, the 5th wheel will still move out of line as the distance traveled by the steer axle isn't far enough to keep the 5th wheel's position from shifting further to the side instead of only continuing to go back.

One thing that I've learnt after 9 years of playing ets2 is imagine your pushing and turning a wheelbarrow and as I do 99% of reversing from inside the cab I look at the furthest wheel on the trailer from the truck and draw an imaginary line from that wheel so I roughly know where the trailer is going and I let the truck roll into the bay which leaves me worry about steering

When you have a wheel, a head tracker is a must have when j want to use the truck mirrors.

Remember, this applies to real life. Parking a trailer in real life is easy at time but. When it comes to closed tight spaces like truck stops and rest stop with a bunch of truckers. It’s very important to learn how to park a trailer perfectly without hitting anything between two Semi/Lorrie/COE When parking a trailer in reverse, Counter steering is the only way. Like a motorcycle. But very different. Counter steering is steering the opposite way

Even I was learning to backup in ATS I searched for videos on how to back up. I've gotten rusty, but I use to be able to back trailers in one-shot depending on the dock (I preferred more open ones over tighter lots). This was in first person on the Viper 389 (official 389 was not out yet)., and it's horrible turning radius. Also, nice truck.

I think do the right turn parking in a left hand drive truck is the hardest, specially if you don't have big screen to see the right hand mirror clearly.

See the front part of your trailer that sticks out when you turn ? Turn the wheel the direction you want it to stick out.

The thing about ATS is you have a lot less space to work with and your truck is bigger, which makes it harder.

the only problem for me is very hard to see the parking white line from the mirror. i wish they add a feature where we can walk out from the truck to see parking spot at the delivery location

I can park in reverse normally, but can't do blineside reverse without the external cam :/, still level 18 intermediet.

The best way isnt just to go straight and then park. The best way is to reverse to the place immidiatelly.

I’ve been playing ETS 2 since it launched, not to mention the previous games. This series of games made me become a truck driver. All I can say, when you have to back up in a unloading ramp, always make sure the ramp is on left (or on the right if you are RHD). No tutorial can teach you better than doing it yourself until you nail it. And yeah, trailers with steerable axes are a nightmare for begginers.

often time it is not a problem to park the truck but the problem is you can see what is going on around you, and you can tell how the overall feeling is. I do have an American Track tor trailer felt in all available states and I bought all the Garage and hired many drivers, but I still can not park my own truck because I can not see a dam thing around me. the system sucks I tried the overhead camera but soon as I moved the truck it switched to another angle ..

The thing lol, is that there are like 50 truck drivers in a depot in truckers mp I can’t find a way to park there properly because everyone passes through me xD
