Thanks for the positive comments about the vlogs. I will def keep them going, but this week we are back with the tutorials. In my most recent tutorial, we went over parrying as an orthodox fighter. This week, we go over the details of parrying as a southpaw fighter and a few drills.

I’m a southpaw. My biggest issue with MMA is people trying to grab a single leg on me because my right foot is forwards. Cool video, will drill this

ForzaTerra89 DRILL DRILL DRILL just blasting that rear knee into their JAW OR NOSE as they’re shooting in for the single!! Maybe take it easy on the training partners wit that, but if you make that second nature then they’ll learn to fear trying to reach for that lead leg! Hell I lost count of how many times I’ve accidentally (literally an accident cuz my knee just pops up automatically now cuz it’s second nature) KO’d or flask KO’d folks when they shoot in for my lead leg my just simply raising my left knee and it meets their chin. 😵😴☠️ NIGHT NIGHT

James Delheimer doesn’t work mate, A they put their head to the outside of my hip not inside since were in an open stance, B it’s training, we’re not kneeing anyone and C it’s grappling training half the time anyway so no strikes. Anyone who knows what they’re doing isn’t gonna leave their head there

i know this video is quite old, but would the parry be the same if the lead punch came from the other hand?
@owainp8445
@owainp8445 4 года назад
out of curiosity in the last drill, why would you choose a jab counter over a rear straight/overhand?
@bradquakeriddell
@bradquakeriddell 4 года назад
Your opponent might not commit fully to the jab. They might jab close, so you parry. But if you parry and throw the 2, you will be out of range. So you might have to parry and step in with your jab. Also, the jab might be an incentive for them to not continue to throw anything else. Like if you parry and leave it, they might throw the jab and follow with something else. If you parry and jab, it shows that you are actively ready to counter and it's not so safe for them to come in and attack. Hope this answered your question.

how do you decide whether you want to parry or catch? As a beginner I usually try to catch and then counter but sometimes if my partner starts hitting my body I open up and he tees off on me. Should I try parrying more to avoid that?
@bradquakeriddell
@bradquakeriddell 4 года назад
A parry generally will keep you at a better range and give you the ability to either counter or leave . Catching obviously gives you the ability to counter well as you remain deep in range but if you try to leave after catching you have to be ready to possibly catch a couple more shots . Depends on the opponent and ring or cage position.

Would you ever pivot to your right as you parry as a southpaw?

So how i can block the cross?
@bradquakeriddell
@bradquakeriddell 7 месяцев назад
Many ways . Most basic is just parry then roll your rear guard side towards the punch and make sure your ear is covered too in case you get the wrong read and they throw a hook
