Im sitting next month for CISSP. Im in IT for 26 years now and have gone from a Help Desk to systems tech to Sysadmin to Senior Sysadmin to Software procurement and now ITSEC Senior Analyst. Ive decided much like you have to either go back to school and complete my degree or get the CISSP which is what I have chosen. My method of studying is much like yours was. I read the CBK, watch the corresponding video and then back it up with testing and writing. At this point in my career its more about filling in the gaps of my knowledge. I go though 3 domains and then back track 2 to review. So after Domain 3 I go back to one and skim read. Then after 6 go back to 2. I use a phone app (Pocket Prep) while waiting for a haircut or dr appt. Since I dont have an IT degree Ive always had a feeling of imposter syndrome and hope that by gaining this cert that I will have at least to my self quelled that feeling.

Hi Jim, Do you think reading 11th hour in itself is sufficient. I like the this book alot better. I am planning to supplement it with Kelly Handerhan's vidoes and Sari Green's course on Safari books online?

I don't know about "11th hour" book. The test is expensive! These are the books I used

Hi Jim, Just stumbled upon your channel while looking for recommendations for the best book for CISSP. I must say - to have such a huge passion for IT and learning new stuff in particular, after so many years in the industry - is pure inspiration!! I personally know a few people who read a single book once or maybe twice and passed the exam, but you did some serious learning here! You literally read about 10K worth of pages to pass this exam!! That is some serious dedication there!! Really inspiring! Thanx!

If I could go back and do the study over, I would suggest this: Net+, Sec+, take a course on IT security policy (BCP/DR etc.), then study for the CISSP. At a minimum, will need 7-8 CISSP study sources (combination of books, videos, classes) and 2-3 sources of practice exams. 50% is studying material, and the other 50% is practicing and studying the questions. Chapple also says you need 5 years of cybersecurity work experience, but this is not true. He even gives examples of how a network engineer wouldn't qualify but a cybersecurity engineer would, so ask for a title change from your employer. Now, think about this for a minute. Do you really think it's about the title? Just go ask for a title change? Nah, man. As of today, nowhere in the ISC2's website do you see wording that you must have 5 years of cybersecurity work experience. It says, however, you must have work experience that covers 2 of the domains. Meaning, my experience as a network project manager counts (domains 4, 2, and 1). My experience as a finance manager counts (domain 1). And my experience in the Air Force as a personnel/HR counts (domains 5, 2). That's right. I called ISC2's member services and verified this. She said Mr. Chapple is incorrect. She even advised me that she would note my account to reflect what she confirmed on my member account (probably for audit purposes).

I do agree that you should have a background in data and networking first (A+ Net+ Sec+ also maybe Cisco CCNA security). Finance manager for domain 1 ? HR domains 5,2 ? network project manager ...yes .

Your dedication to your studies just hit me like a blow to the stomach. I've been working in the IT field for 10+ years and have actively been studying the sybex book you showed. I've felt like juggling work and study has been overwhelming over the last few months. Then, I see this video and I feel like I've studied next to nothing and I'm genuinely panicking. Do you feel like you "over-studied"? I know that when you pass the CISSP, they don't give you a score; they only give you a score if you fail. I have a plan to take the exam before I exit the military in April 2017; I feel like I don't have the hours in the day to do what you did before testing.. Truly a great video. Your dedication to continuing education is inspirational.

Chris, thanks for watching my video! To answer your question, I did not feel like I over studied. The exam is very expensive and I did not won't to retake it. The CISSP certification is very valuable and if you are going to be a cyber security professional you should have it. There is a lot of good information in the CBK/domains. I loved the subject and enjoyed learning. I like getting up early in the morning and studying . You need to fine a time that works for you. Good luck!!

For more information on endorsements go to www.ISC2.org The International Information System Security Certification Consortium, or (ISC)², is a non-profit organization which specializes in training and certifications for cybersecurity professionals. It has been described as the "world's largest IT security organization". They can help you with all your CISSP certification questions. They are very helpful people.

@cableSupply.com Sir, I'm planning to take CISSP exams in the near future. I have a few questions Can I ask you? 1. How to submit the past security experiences to the ISC2?? 2. What format it should be submitted? 3. The submission of the experience documents is after the exam (passing) or before it? Lastly, I want to thank you for such a great insight for the CISSP!!

It is a personal preference. ISACA is a fine organization. (ISC)2 is also a fantastic organization. Check out their websites and see what is best for your situation.

sincere greetings from Slovakia .. i am really glad about presentation the way how to successfully pass this exam. most of problems, especially for young people, is getting rid of efforts that must be invested into any study and in any case..we have amazing technologies (internet, social nets etc.) within hand reach but we forget/dont want to read real books what exponentially improve our critical minding...for that reason i am happy to say that the only option we have in order to be real IT sec magician or step that must be taken is to sit and read...great vid...i was enjoying that...
