I had my interview yesterday and I passed. I was told that I received the highest score the Lieutenant has given in his entire career. I was prepared and calm. I followed all your tips in this video. Thanks for setting me up for success. I appreciate this video.
I just came back from my Oral Board. I did lots of studying and note taking from others and especially, from you sir! I want to thank you for creating this helpful video. I rehearsed and left the 3 panel officers with a smile plus, we will be in touch soon, after being escorted out the to the doorway. Tell us a little about yourself? This question is the ice breaker to get to know you and set the tone. Weakness, Strengths you are going to get them both. Personal questions are relatively first off, to get to know you. Next the scenario-based questions, or dynamic questions. Study for these, for the most part and get info over the agency you've applied to. Other than that keep calm make them answers short and sweet. Good luck ya'll .
I have mine Tuesday at 10:00 am. I’m really nervous, and I’ve studied YT videos over and over. I tend to overthink the outcomes, and then after it’s done I realize it wasn’t so bad
Hello, I want to be grateful for this video. I have passed every step of the hiring process and made it in as a 19 y/o. I’m the youngest female on the department and this video and the others he has made have helped me a lot. Thank you
I have my oral board interview this Friday at 8:30 I have never been so nervous before. Thank you so much for your video it has help me fell more prepared for it.
Mine is this Friday at 9:00, and I’m confident but also stressed because I have no idea what I am going into, but I believe if I practice confidence it will work out
This is GOLDEN. I have an interview with my city’s Sheriff Department for corrections officer next week and really nervous. Now that I have a blueprint, I feel better!! I’ll try to update soon!
I am sure I watched this video over 10 times 😂 but this video was extremely helpful for the initial interview and the chief interview and now I will be starting the academy next month THANK YOU!!!
Starting my journey and hopefully joining the Sheriff deputy Department. With this information and studying I know I’m going to make it thanks for what you do keep it up 👍🏼
Hi thank you so much! This video was extremely informative and very helpful it honestly just put my mind at ease! I recently passed my oral board interview!!! 😊
Just ran across this video im gonna study this video til my oral board interview for my local county to join their certified COs since im already certified through the state hopefully that helps and i pass the interview!!
It threw me off a bit about the part of writing your family member a ticket? That seemed kind of strange to say no.. wouldn’t that be being bias because it’s your mom? I just am skeptical about that answer.
It’s an honesty question. You have discretion and don’t have to write everyone a ticket. Even if you don’t like your mother you probably wouldn’t write her the ticket. Just answer honestly and you’ll be fine
Great video, one question for now: Why would I not write my mother a ticket if she was being a hazard to herself and the community that I have given an oath to protect? My initial response was yes, I would write my mother a ticket if she was going 80 mph in a 25 mph speed zone. I would think that’s a school or work zone and that’s insanely dangerous, right? Mind you my mother is about 80 years of age and not a speedster, but poor eyesight, so super dangerous for her to speed. So please help me understand the reasoning by the “no” to giving her a ticket. Also, isn’t that a felony?
Definitely not a felony. It’s an honesty question as most people wouldn’t write their own mother a ticket unless they disliked her for some reason. If it was something extremely dangerous, well that can change the situation. They are looking for honesty here not the answer you think they want to hear. In the end yes and no are both correct as long as you have good reason to back up each answer.
What are things to do when turned down by agencies for prior drug use? They didn’t say that was the reason for not moving me forward but I’m assuming that’s why. It’s been 10 years since last usage. During that time I’ve turned my life around, joined the Air Force, did a contract and now doing an ART position in reserves. I just wonder why honesty isn’t always best with some departments. Great videos I just watched your whole series!
Don’t give up. A friend of mine finally got picked up after being DQ’d several times from different agencies. Then he spent 13 years as a paramedic and gave it another try & didn’t get DQ’d
Why is the answer no? Driving is a privilege, not a right. If a mother is recklessly speeding through a neighborhood, it doesn't matter who the citing officer is, does it?
My personal answer to the “what would you do if you caught your partner stealing?” Well part of me will be telling me that you did the right thing to turn him/her in but if I rant my partner out and the store founds out a cop is shoplifting is that gonna destroy the department’s reputation and the public’s trust with authorities.
@@brigitteleafbarnes1441 think about this. Would the Public have more trust in law enforcement if they turned in one of their own for wrong doing or for keeping it secret then the public finds out another way?
I had my Oral board interview today and I feel horrible after leaving it. None of the questions I had prepared for were asked. I was truthful about a time a tried a drug over 10 years ago when I was super young when they asked about drugs and they said “why didn’t you list that drug on your application” I didn’t think I had to because I was like 16 years old, I was young and dumb and peer pressured. I feel super discouraged.
I had my interview yesterday, and I think I messed up by saying I should show up to work more at my other job. I followed up by saying I work 6 days 10-12 hours while my wife giving birth and having a new born at home. Did I make a mistake?
Thank for such a great video . I m having my oral board in 7 days . Would you please share me your thoughts regarding two questions. Can you define or have working knowledge to give us an example. Ethics , integrity valor fairness and professionalism? Service before self ?
Ethics: The principles and values that guide behavior and decision-making, especially in professional contexts. Example: A journalist who upholds ethical principles of accuracy, objectivity, and transparency when reporting news stories. Integrity: The quality of being honest, trustworthy, and morally upright. Example: An accountant who refuses to engage in fraudulent accounting practices, even if it means losing clients. Valor: Courage and bravery, especially in the face of danger. Example: A firefighter who risks their own life to save others from a burning building. Fairness: Treating others equally and justly, without bias or favoritism. Example: A judge who makes rulings based on the facts and the law, rather than personal biases or outside pressures. Professionalism: Demonstrating competence, responsibility, and respect in one's work or profession. Example: A doctor who communicates clearly with patients, collaborates effectively with colleagues, and maintains confidentiality and privacy. "Service before self" is a core value that emphasizes the importance of putting the needs of others before one's own interests. Example: A Police Officer risks their own safety to rescue people from an active shooter is demonstrating service before self. They are putting the safety and well-being of others ahead of their own, even though it may be dangerous and cost them their life.
Why do you want to be a police officer ? Is it ok to answer, more than A job, i see it as a career in law enforcement and hope someday I will be in a senior position in this department?
I have a "informal" interview and to be honest cant find anything to expect, the oral board is down the road and the set dress code is suit and tie, but I think the informal interview a sport coat, dress shirt, tie and khaki will be fine, please help
Yes all of this is covered, but the bigger question is do you as a member of the public actually know what the bill of rights are? Because I have a 440 question quiz we give our entry-level legal students at LSU law over the first amendment alone and all of its court rulings that I’ve never seen a member of the public pass. Most cops can pass it however. The average legal students pass rate on this quiz is at 97% with an average score of 86. Law enforcement in general pass rate is about 84% with an average score of an 84. And then there are you members of the public…….who pass at an atrocious 7% with an average score of 72 assuming you pass. I want you to think long and hard about what is entailed in the constitution and what it encompasses of its complexity. If the first amendment alone can have up to 440 questions imagine how complex this gets further than what you’re capable of thinking?
Would you ticket you mom ? The answer no ? But they wanna know i will treat all the same way ! Am i right ? Shouldn't say yes because she was speeding and put herself and others in danger !?
Just passed my oral board wanted to pass along helpful Information because I needed it when I was preparing. #1. Tell me about yourself and why you want to work for this department. That starts the interview off, have something short but effective to say here. A few other situational questions involving stress, integrity, deadly force. It is nerve wrecking sitting across from 3 high ranking officers but if you have any life experience use it to your advantage and make it fit the questions.
Damn that wasn’t the first question I was asked but I went in with confidence and I think I did ok. Hopefully I’ll hear back, but congratulations and I wish you the best of luck
Just passed mine today. They were very impressed. Just like you stated.... 1. Tell us about yourself? 2. What motivates your day to day routine? 3. What are your strengths and weaknesses? 4. Where do you see yourself within this organization? 5. What made you choose this Sheriffs office? 6. Are you prepared to take a military-style Police boot camp? They will be yelling and screaming at you and you may get punished for others doing something wrong. 7. What is the biggest obstacle in your life and how did you overcome it. 8. What 1 person from all your jobs do you consider the best leader you have had and why. 9. Explain your work ethic. 10.Why should we chose you? 11. Is there anything you would like to add to the table. My panel was in front of 7 High ranked Sheriff Deputies and 2 HR personnel. The key is to be confident with all your answers and show off the real you!
You should absolutely right your mom or anyone else a ticket for going 80 in a 25. If you say no that shows your bias. 80 in a 25 is extremely reckless and could easily result in the death of a bystander.
Bias is negated due to the allowance of discretion by police. I’m not a police officer, I am a prosecutor but if I choose to write you a ticket for one thing and let 25 other people go for the same thing that you did it is 100% legal and I do not have to explain why I they did it. I was a prosecutor when I started doing this for a Municiple Court and during July 4 one year a single person received a fireworks ticket as about 400 other people were let go. This guy got the ticket because he was an @$$hole and was mouthy to the officer . He paid for a $700 lawyer to drop the $500 ticket and fight in court and he still lost. Determining “bias” is for the courts , not for your opinion being a member of the public.
@@Jactionalsorry for the extremely late reply, I made it to the Merit Interview and was beat by a Lateral Transfer with 10+ years of experience. I’m going through it again and have my Sergeant interview tonight.
I just passed my today ! Thank you so much ! I was really nervous but got very comfortable when I actually talking and being honest and truthful about it!
Hey can you help me out with a question I come from a law enforcement family and want to continue the legacy😂. I’m 21 and live in New York, Do you take the written exam first and then go into the police academy
@adelaidaguzman8465 well, I can't give you the exact questions, but I must say that they weren't any of the questions in this video. There were 20 questions and I wasn't expecting any of the 20 questions. I can give you just one example. One of the questions was, how do you think an officer should dress? Or, if you see an officer with all his hair disheveled and poorly dressed, what would you do?. Questions like that, i still waiting for my results and hopefully I'll pass.
I'm a 20 yr leo and training officer/FTO and came across your video, very well done, my only critique is to add a something about the dreaded "Tell me about a negative situation, you were in and how you dealt with that." questions. I've seen many promising applicants hurt themselves with this question, and it's a very common question in agencies in VA,
Passed mine the other day. Was super nervous and they called me out on it. It's odd for the sheriff to tell you to relax a bit and start cracking jokes. After I finally realed a bit I get them to laughing and it went smooth from there. I have a PT test this week and if I pass that I go to academy in May. Pushups kill me but I have to get through it.
Always good if you get a chuckle out of them. Nice work! Keep it up. Do push-ups till failure then again and again to failure, just not a few days before the PAT lol, but that’s a great way to build them up
About 3-4 years ago I applied for a police department after getting out of the army and I passed the PT test , written test , but failed the oral interview panel . They never told me why but I seem to have made lots of mistakes and I believe I was unsure of myself and obviously nervous . I’ve been working in corrections the last 4 years but am seriously considering chasing this dream still as I kinda gave up as soon as I failed and am unhappy with my job now .
@ItsGEO- It is. Violating peoples rights isn't part of my job description. I'm not part of a standing army the founders warned about. You are so in the dark and probably in the closet
I have my oral board. Tomorrow at 1:50 pm. I’m 21 and only experience I have is serving in the army national guard since I was 17. I know that’s not law enforcement. but I feel like I can relate some of these stress questions with that experience. Great video btw I appreciate it. Just like to add its virtual as well.
@@user-lv8cv8sv2f It was a weird experience that’s for sure zoom. and there was like 4 chiefs from different towns they never made eye contact once. It was straight to the point which I guess is a good thing. overall was a experience I’m like number 20 on the official list for hillside police department lol. I’m headed back to school to use my gi bill 😂. I might try somewhere else in the future. Thanks for reaching out!
Just did my oral panel yesterday, watched this interview several times went in with confidence. Now I got an email to attend the next step, the Command Staff Interview. Thank you for this video, very helpful.
Question! Great video by the way! So if I were to say “ yes “ to writing a family member a ticket makes me look bad? The answer I planned on answering with would be “ yes “
This is a test of honesty, so answer honestly and back it up with the reason why. No wrong answer her really but they don’t want you to give an answer you think they want.
Super helpful video. Thank you so much! On the shaving thing, I am 20, about to turn 21. I currently have a beard. I will admit it is not the greatest but it is neatly trimmed and makes me look more mature. When I shave I look like I am 12... Still shave?
If the department allows beards you may be okay if it’s cleaned up, but if it were me I would shave. You can always grow it back. I know it takes me a while too lol.
Also you’re correct about the swivel chair and thank you for that advice lol! In all your video was really well put, just wished I had these questions but didn’t.
I just did my interview. It was a 1 on 1 with a Sergeant. And I was placed on the eligibility list. Mixed feelings about it. But I understand I did meet the qualifications but there were other candidates who did better
Great stuff, but one note. Absolutely do not try to make your weaknesses a positive. DO NOT say you're a perfectionist. They see right through that bullcrap. Come up with a weakness that is a true weakness that can be overcome. For example, if you live in an area with a lot of Spanish speakers, say that you lack that language skill but you wish to improve it.
Wait, so law enforcement officers aren't above the law, but you shouldn't write your mom a ticket? Explain please, because it sounds like you are contradicting yourself, and are just trying to say whatever you think the interviewer wants you to say.
Why wouldn't I write mom a ticket? Doesn't that show favoritism? To me that gives reason to believe that I will compromise my integrity. Serious question because my parents have raised me to apply the rules equally.
