This really is the most beneficial video for verbal reasoning tests on RU-vid. Thanks and keep it coming.

Thank you, this was very helpful. By far the best video on RU-vid. I like how you explained each example and it's answers logically and broke down the key areas to look for when answering these tedious and meticulous questions.

Comment to question 22 in the Verbal Test: "Moral hazard is a term used in economics, finance, banking and insurance." You state: "All of those were mentioned explicitly in the passage." > But Banking (if i'm not wrong) is not mentioned. And Finance doesn't have to include Banking. Thanks btw from for great material 👍 Very much appreciated

Very helpful, thought these would be easy but you have to tread carefully. Thanks

The second question, the term "roughly" should also tell you that it doesn't mean exactly that, making cannot tell the correct answer?

Great looking vid but its not very mobile phone friendly as the text is so small. I had to give up on question 2 as I was struggling to read it.

Please check question one well. In question one the year is 1920 and the passage is 1929,so why is it true. Thanks

In the question, it actually says “in the 20s” and 1929 is in the 20s. :-)

Should't Q 12 be false, because even though it doesn't say it's from Italian, it says roughly. This implies, whichever language it is translated from, it is only "roughly" and not "exactly" Stable Ferrari, i.e. it doesn't translate directly but it translates closely to Stable Ferrari.

Hi Jack. I can see where you're going, but I wouldn't read too much into the 'roughly' qualifier. Good pick up however, and you are right to apply that level of scrutiny to these verbal reasoning questions. This is a bit of a grey area, but when doing the actual tests, I would expect the correct answer to be given as Can't Tell in this type of situation. If instead the question had added some type of definitive adjective, such as '...when translated from Italian means EXACTLY Stable Ferrari', then I would choose False.

I have a question about Ferrari being the most successful team ever. it says that they are most successful having amassed 15 drivers championships up to 2013. But you are posting this in 2015, so could the answer be "can not tell" because some other team could have amassed more drivers championships in the meantime? Or is knowledge that it is 2015 "today" outside of the information given in the article and we must trust the "They are the most successful Formula One team ever, ... " line?

Hi trythis. That's a great question. Pretty much the number one tip I have for verbal reasoning tests is to only base your answer on what's contained in the passage. You must not bring in outside knowledge at all. In this example, I could easily have replaced Ferrari with Mitsubishi and all the answers would have been identical. Clearly in reality all the information would have been incorrect, but that's irrelevant. These tests aim to assess your verbal reasoning skills, not your knowledge of obscure topics. In fact, it's often the case that the test providers will add completely bogus information in there just to try and trip you up. Hope this makes sense.

Hey, what are you thoughts of having experienced candidate, those with more than 15 years working experience behind them in their careers, take such tests as part of a recruitment process? Do you think its fair to evaluate someone who hasn't been exposed to such questions in a long period of time?
@GradTests
@GradTests 8 лет назад
Hi Robert. I will be brutally honest, I personally don't place much weight on the validity of these tests in determining an employee's chances of success. They are often used in huge graduate recruitment drives with 1000s of students applying for a handful of jobs. In these situations, they seem like a cheap/quick way to filter out 90% of the candidates and I'm not sure what else these companies could do, with limited resources. Further up the career path pyramid, when there are normally far fewer applicants for a job, it makes even less sense to use these tests. Unfortunately, you have to play the game that the employers want to play, and that often involves this suite of tests, so it pays to be skilled at taking them. Ultimately they are just another hoop to jump through, and should be viewed in the same light as making sure your CV/cover letter is appealing, typo free, succinct etc. You can check out gradtests.com.au for some free practice tests.

In the question about if the founder of ferrari is still alive, I think that the response is "Can not tell" because their death is not implicit or its mentioned in the passage.

I hate them. They are not designed for visual people. I really struggle to swallow and process that paragraph in only a few seconds. I can't believe I won't get the job of my life because of this stupid test.

Hi Justin. Do you mean why didn't I read out the passage? I think that might have been a bit tedious as you can read it yourself.
@ohkay680

isn't the question false bc it's translated to stable Ferrari in English not Italian
@GradTests
@GradTests 6 лет назад
Hi Ohkay. Well I'd think of it like this - the passage is talking about translations between languages - so there is a 'from' language and a 'to' language. The passage refers to it being translated 'to English'. The question then talks about it being translated 'from Italian'. This bit we cannot be sure of if it's true or false; we do not know either way. I hope that makes sense.

True: Because you know Ferrari is an Italian make and therefore the name is Italian. False: Because it doesn't say it is an Italian name. Cannot tell: Because you don't know if its Italian. Where Logic contradicts IQ.

JL only use false where the statement contradicts the extract
@GradTests
@GradTests 6 лет назад
Hi JL. In order for it to be True, the entire statement must be 'True'. 'True' essentially means, there are statements explicitly say this in the passage. For the statement to be 'False', there would need to be something in it which is contradicted in the passage. For it to be 'Can't Tell', there must be something that do not know whether it is True or False, given what's presented in the passage. In this example, although it is indicated that Ferrari is an Italian make '...another famous Italian car maker', that doesn't mean that Ferrari is in Italian. It could be a word from any language. This is why these tests can be tricky.
