How to patch an exterior wall (drywall and vapour barrier repair). 

Thanks for addressing this issue! I'm using the blue tape. Not sure if it makes a difference, but the blue says it is for this sort of job. So many other videos here don't even address exterior walls with vapor barrier, but those are half the walls in a home. When enlarging the hole, I used a putty knife behind the drywall to protect the vapor barrier (won't work over a stud).

Just a note it's actually a really bad idea to use cheap, unapproved plastics to repair your vapor barrier. You need to get the real vapor barrier. It just really should be aproved vapor barrier. It would have been worth the 40 bucks to have it done properly if that's what it cost you for the role. (And then you'd have it for next time, more than likely you'll have some project where you can use it again, Or you could have sold what was left of the role online If you didn't want to just hold on to it.)
