The Xbox modding community is awesome! I hope someone will manage to add stencil shadows to the game on OG Xbox by decompiling the game one day. That would be glorious!
Hell no! Even with the 128mb dev kit, they couldn't get it to run on the old engine, then they scrapped it, made the new engine, and made Halo 2. I wish though :(
@@upbeat3535 Don't be too sure about that. Remember that there *is* at least one area in the retail release of H2 with stencil shadows left in, so even the stripped down engine can support them. It may require a full engine upgrade, but it's not impossible on the hardware.
@@abasgamesThe half-life 2 episodes use a different version of the source engine, it wouldn’t be possible to port it to the Xbox with mods, unless you had the source engine source code. It’s why you can’t spawn portal 1 and Half-Life episode assets on Team Fortress 2/Half-Life 2 on the orange box, the games use a different version of the engine. TF2 & HL2 use the same version though.
At this point, somebody has got to make an easy board to upgrade the Xbox RAM. It's cool and all to see all those patches and homebrew being developed for upgraded systems, but he barrier of entry to use them is still too high. I know it's not something that's really doable on the xbox, but hey, the system has been torn apart so much at this point that everything seems possible.
@@MrMario2011 do we need anything extra to utilise more ram? I've got a modded 1.0, but ram and cpu haven't been touched at all. Also do you think there would be any issues running a higher quality H2 on Insignia multiplayer?
@@MrMario2011 Still in alpha stages, but yeah Tito's video was neat. Using flat flex as leads is not ideal, but I don't think there's an option of bonding flat gull wing leads to the interposer substrate. I would suggest castellated edge connection. Also there's the timing issues that are keeping the new modules from running at full tilt. Alpha stages! lol The 128MB upgrade is actually pretty straightforward, but you need a different BIOS and there isn't much support for it outside of homebrew afaik
An important note: there is no NTSC-U Halo 2. There are 8 different Halo 2 discs, one for each language release. I'll check but most likely GrimDoomer is using the English disc. You can check the XBE version of the default.xbe in DVD2Xbox, it ends in 03.
Very impressive and I give a lot of street cred to anyone that does RAM or CPU upgrades to their ogXbox but it's not playing on original hardware anymore and kinda breaks the magic of retro gaming for me. I have to draw the line after upscalers and HDMI mods. CPU and RAM, GPU overclocking and all that are just too much of an upgrade for me. Like... as silly as it sounds, I want my Halo CE to dip to 10 FPS in big fights.
The line is definitely subjective to folks, because I've also run into people who believe that upscalers and HDMI mods like the ones you've mentioned are hearsay. Although I feel you on the FPS drops, usually on console if you can do something to generate FPS drops, that means you're doing something pretty intense 🤣
This is great but a little useless until 1.5 compatibility is available as let's be honest this is really only for campaign...who plays multiplayer with just the original handful of maps.
To play the original an Xbox or 360 is required, 343 messed some things up on H2 MCC, for example duel wield elites didn’t duel wield for years until they fixed it lol.
