You all probably think I am dumb for saying this, but it works not 100% of the time though of course. He is engaging a seemingly simple tasks, but he has it well planned. First off paper and money don't feel the same, second new bills that are not crumpled sick together and make the person counting it pay extra attention, Third I've worked in retail and you can collected over $8,000 in around 200-300 transaction and only been off by about .20 cents on average, Forth a place like a jewelry shop will check large bills to make sure they are not counterfeit. I might have said it could work if the paper remotely look like the real bills at a glance. I'm going to agree with Yammy707 and say this is 100% fake.

When they look down at the paper they try to switch their brain on the paper because they are being rambled at, but he secretly talks for their thoughts. Then after a little bit when he starts leaving they are confused as shit, and don't want want to confront them because they think they are going crazy. Maybe think the put the money somewhere else
No merchant would consciously count blank paper. But a very distracted person might motion like they are counting blank paper because they're supposed to.
People, this is not just a matter of distraction, this is actually a form of hypnosis. Notice how he always says "Take it, it's fine" while he gives the money, even though it's part of the story he tells? That there, is the extremely delicate art of influencing the human mind. It needs to be tied into a story so that it's not suspicious, and the words need to be emphasized in an extremely complicated manner that requires years of practice. But it does work. I've seen a person get out of a speeding ticket by emphasizing the word "forget" in his story, TL;DR: social engineering + careful influencing of the mind to a certain degree.
No...it is fake with set up cashiers. If you are dumb enough to think it is real, then you are very susceptible to hypnosis yourself. This guy is NOT Obi Wan fucking Kenobi. No one is taking blank paper because he says "take it, it's fine. These aren't the droids you're looking for."

There would be NO ONE that would just accept a handful of bills without going through them and counting it up first. Especially for something as pricey as a 4500 ring. Also, why would the cashier also forget the protocol he ALWAYS does for EVERY customer regarding giving change back and handing a receipt? There is no possible way he 'hypnotized' someone with a simple misdirection about asking for directions and then saying "Take it, it's fine".
Its the misdirection of thought process, making the subject use his conscious mind while presenting a seemingly easy call such as taking something somebody is handing to you. Anyone who has worked in retail knows, every damn bill you touch you have to look at the denomination to see if you were given enough money. Its called counting.. No one can make a transaction without counting the cash. Its an instant reaction when handed any bill.

I'm calling bull on the jewelry shop; if someone were to pay $4500 in cash, he'd be surprised because people typically don't carry that much on them, and should've been wary of counterfeit money. Additionally, $4500 would have to be at least 45 bills, which is a lot less then the few papers he gave him. Either it was a set up, or he was really out of it. And with the fish seller, how would he know how much change to give him without looking at the bill?

In addition, if you're being pick-pocketed you're not thinking about paying attention. A store clerk is supposed to check if he got the right amount before ringing up the order, and cannot let the customer leave before it's settled. Also, if it's the matter of 4500$, wouldn't he assume the guy wanted a recite, on general reflex he would ring it up and say "hey, you forgot the recipe". I don't need to keep going though. This couldn't be more obviously fake. This is not the 1880's anymore. You need to learn not to believe everything you see.
When I shop at any store, they'll count every last cent, even if i actually counted through the cash right in front of them, and it's only the matter of a $5 purchase. I just spent 5 days in NY, and naturally i bought a lot of stuff and food. Every last single purchase (made at tons of different stores) was counted in detail by the cashier.
He phrased it to fool the person to think that he was tipping them. Social convention dictates that if you are being tipped, you should not look at the denomination or amount of the tip until the "tipper" has left. That's the loophole that he's exploiting.

When you're giving money to the cashier that person must LOOK AT THE MONEY before they stick the bills to their correct slots. I tried to put myself in situation as I am the seller, I've been thinking over and over again keep pretending that I'm him but somehow I still can't get it especially in the jewelry shop, at 3:05, I still don't know why the seller was being so absent minded and he even actually flip through and quite of looking over the stacks of money and didn't notice that they were blank? And also, for a real and smart seller or cashier, whatever amount the product is, he/she must count exactly the money! Man! Even 1 Dollar I'mma make sure that IT IS 1 Dollar!? I mean, that wasn't 1 Dollar, that was 4,500 Dollars!? And he never even counted them and make sure it is correct 4,500??? It's called social engineering. He's distracting him and inducing him in thinking this is real money. First he's announcing he's paying in cash, first reason to pay less attention to what the buyer is handing the cashier. Next he's distracting him buy asking questions the cashier has to actually THINK about such as where is the closest subway and is it North or South, the cashier not always having a compass in his pocket and not necessarily taking the subway (since he's probably the jewelry's owner) there's less chance he's taking the subway as a rich person, he has to think about the question and the answer at the same time, and once he's answered he's still distracted (in other words is mind is weak at the moment) and the buyer keeps saying it's fine, thank you and such positive comments while getting ready to leave. The cashier still being led here instead of leading the buyer, just follows the flow and once he actually pays attention to the money, the buyer's already far away.

I would like to straight to the point. First, how come the seller didn't even COUNT the money instead he was just FLIPPING the money and that's it. Second, how come the seller's got so interested about what the buyer was saying to him than the business? Let me tell you something, no sellers, cashiers, businessmen or anybody in this world that sells things, products, services, foods, drinks or anything without counting the total correct amount of money that they get from customers, buyers, clients, members, even strangers and so on. So, what I'm saying here is, this video is recording either the most stupid and absent minded jewelry shop seller on earth or they were all fake. :)
It's the distraction method he was using... Basically making the guy think about other stuff and not about money... So when he flipped through the peices of paper he didn't think about it being "money" and just thought that the transaction was complete so he let him walk out... But it could be fake.
i think the idea is while they think about something else they dont concentraite on being handed money and just acknowledge it as paper in the hand like the jewler had. they forget thats the finnancial transaction portion.
This is NOT fake... this is an advanced form of misdirection, notice how he asks for directions and waits for the perfect moment to give them the money when they are preoccupied with thinking about telling him directions... look closely he waits til their NOT looking at the money and are looking at HIM and telling him directions. These videos are great for teaching me what to watch for. Ripping off people who are trying to make an honest living is just sick. I wouldn't doubt this is real because it is very easy to distract people. You could strip someone down in the middle of the street without them knowing if you keep them distracted enough.
what till the small time carnival people come into town.Several times they used to try the switch game were they ask to break a certain amount like a 100 or 50 and then they ask for you to break it a different way, they keep you distracted and busy by exchanging money back and forth until you get mixed up if you are not careful.
You are right, but this guy is a professional hypnotist, and it's not like every person in the world cheats like that. He does this to show people that he can do it, and it actually takes a lot of skill. He still pays in everyday life.
Although a lot of people are saying that this is fake, it really is real. He's getting the vendors to think about anything else other than the money. Something cognitive like directions to places which is why he keeps asking where the subway is. The hot dog vendor only noticed because he wasn't focused too much on the conversation but instead on the money which is why he realized that the paper was blank. It's how street cons work all the time. When somebody steals a watch off somebody's wrist, all they're doing is distracting them so that they don't see what's right in front of them.
It's more than that - specifically he is saying "it is ok" and variants of that as he hands over the blank paper. What I am curious to understand is how someone makes change - what's the denomination? I've worked as a cashier and you look at the bills in front of you to double check correct change.

This is completely possible,in situations when you are expecting money and you see the person about to hand it to you you lose attention. I once had to give my friend some money and i had some paper in my pocket,i accidentaly gave him the paper and left off,he didnt even notice untill later on

To all of you wondering, he's using a psychological technique called embedded commands, where he inserts certain commands i.e. " TAKE IT" and "INTIMIDATED". When he emphasizes these words it forces the subconscious to accept these commands no matter the situation. It's not 100 percent i.e. the hot dog stand, but it works a lot of the time. I mess around with this stuff a lot, lots of fun, but not necessarily on the scale of $4500 haha. If anyone has any questions about what he's doing pm me :)

This is absolutely fake.... What cashier is going to take that much money without counting it in order to see if its enough or to see if he needs to give change. When you pre occupy someone with other tasks such as giving directions a person such as a cashier would not forget to go through their normal routine since they most likely did it over a thousand times and at this point do it as a part of their muscle memory.

I did a test like this once. I bought an item for 36 bucks, I handed him a 20 and a 1 and said heres 2 twenties, and he instantly put them in the 20 slot and gave me change. Not only did I get the 36 dollar item for 21 bucks but also got 4 bucks change. I went back and told him I did and gave him the other twenty, but it was a good test.

Yea there's no way. I've been a cashier before and even when I'm in the deepest conversations I still peek down and see how much he gave me. Of course cashiering is a little different than walking around and doing transactions but I could never imagine not counting the money. Plus wouldn't you feel the texture of the money in your hand and realize something isn't quite right.
