I have been a tech for almost 19 years and this video is OUTSTANDING!!! I was looking for a video to pass on to a fellow technician who only knows how to use an Epic system for refracting and this was by far the best of those I watched. I also think that Dr. Hunter would be awesome to work with because of the way he teaches.
Hi Dr. Hunter, Excellent. This is how I do my own refraction, using my trial lens kit. Current status? 20/20. Refractive state? +0.5 Diopters. No measured cylinder. Almost never necessary.
there's no fogging, there's no sphere use to fog to relax the accommodation during refraction, patient's target should be 1 - 2 lines above the best VA, didn't apply astigmatic fan dial, jc cylinder for fine tuning the power of astigmatism is done after you got the cylinder power not when you're actually getting it hence it's called refining cylinder amount, a - 0.50 D change in the cylinder power will have a corresponding 0.25 D change in the sphere. there's no duochrome test nor binocular balancing test. the last part was vague, was it supposed to be delayed refraction?
I'm thinking of purchasing a used phoropter and doing exams for friends. While it seems somewhat complex to learn the process this video makes it seem well with in the average person's grasp.
