Brian figured that since the third Burnout was the best one and had "Takedown" in the title, our third Brazilian Jiu Jitsu episode needed a takedown of its own.

well bows are still a good weapon that can be used in situations that a gun cannot. Also in places like Australia where I live guns are licensed and quite restricted. Longbows are not (yet) so they are a more viable option. Although shooting someone with one would still be highly illegal, probably even in self defence.

What is amazing about this is, I don't live anywhere near Austin, Texas, but watching this episode looks like it is so well taught, that if I had a buddy like Brian has Jason (and vice versa), it seems that we could learn/try the proper technique of this in the comfort of our own homes. Also, those three coaches come across as amazing guys to learn from, as if they have the ability to make you comfortable right away with learning these skills. Thanks to all involved for these Ju Jitsu videos.

Must say, I do like how these applications are always explained, in how they are used and the situations they can be useful for. I know from experience that wrist locks almost never (if ever) work in an actual fight, and was worried he was going to pretend they do. It was nice to see him explain how he used these in work environments as a preemptive restraint, and not as some secret fight ending technique like so many McDojos do. Also nice that he allows you to try and work around them, gets you doing a live drill* and also avoiding the "classical mess". *for those who don't know, a dead drill is where someone throws a punch and keeps their arm out so there partner can do the Jackie Chan stuff, a live drill is where they immediately retract the arm once they've punched, forcing you to make it work on the go.

@Fragacide
@Fragacide 7 лет назад
Unfortunately I ended up in a fight a couple weeks back, but it ended up being not so bad. I had the video about stopping a telegraphed punch fresh in my head, and the guy threw that punch. I stepped into him, wrapped him up, and brought him down to the ground until he calmed down. I've got no training nor have I practiced the move, but just having the knowledge from these videos really helped me out in a time where I could have been hurt.

This wrist lock is called a gooseneck lock. It's commonly used by bouncers and law enforcement. There is a way to escape (sort of): by dropping straight downwards you can release the pressure. This is unintuitive though and your average person will never think to do this. Concerning his comment and aikido vs MMA at the end: it's true that MMA is an avenue for testing fighting techniques, but how often do you see this wrist lock in MMA? Bouncing and law enforcement is another avenue to test restraint holds against untrained fighters, and some aikido locks such as the Z-lock and kotegaeshi have been successfully used by law enforcement. By demonstrating an effective wrist lock here that isn't used in MMA, he kind of defeated his point.

7:07-7:11And yet schools can't understand this when someone is fighting for self defense. When they A- Didn't start the fight B- Didn't want to fight and C- Just meant to get the situation over with. And to all you who thinks this sounds stupid, It's absolutely true. If I piss some guy off with out knowing it, and I swings at me without me even wanting to fight and I defend myself, they'll probably mark it down as egging the fight on or making it worse when the situation had started off about as bad as it could get

This is all gold, the lead instructor couldn’t be better; and it’s almost 100% defensive. Still helps to know what it feels like to have your head smacked around, in addition, but obviously. @@matthewg4882 I didn't think it had anything to do with calling anyone black but instead alluding that fox news calls blacks gangsters or inferred that blacks have an undeserved reputation for being associated with the gangster lifestyle. Neither is the fault of fox news so it showed his bias and his own ignorance and prejudice. besides traditional term gangsters was associated with the mafia but new cats take up the mantel all the time and now we as a society rightfully associates gangsters with black upper class gangs while hoodlum would be associated with a lower class criminal white or black or insert race specific here while the term hooligan is most commonly associated with lower class white criminals. And besides the term gangsta is commonly used as a term of endearment as in this case was used in the video as saying you guys "Plural" are the original bad asses because he wasn't just speaking to the black guy but all 3 teachers. But because a white guy said it in the vicinity of a black guy the black guy turned it around and attacked fox news. which was the weird part.

"Helping [my nerd friends] realize that they can take down a guy who's 6'5" and been an athlete his entire life. And they can strangle him unconscious and there is nothing he can do about it." I got chills running down my spine as he said that.......

I took aikido for about two years, I think what most people don't understand about it is that it's not really a fighting system, it's more of an art form than anything else. There's some stuff in that you could actually use to fuck someone up, but only if you already know how to fight, and know what you're doing before learning aikido. If you try to do a technique exactly as it's taught, you're just gonna get beat up. That being said, if you think about the techniques as a fighter, and don't get caught up with the art aspect of it, there are some parts of it that could work really well if changed to be more practical. You never see aikido masters in ufc and such because they mastered the art form of it, and don't think about how it would work in a real fight. Or at least that's my opinion on it, anyways.

That makes sense.

That too lol. Although, isn't it the first technique? Looks more like ikkyo than it does nikyo to me.

Ahh, right, it's been a while since I actually took a class. Plus in the class I had, we only did it when the arm was in a Z shape, like how it is in katatori nikyo. Thanks for correcting me.

Same sort of thing applies in Silat. If you don't know what Silat is, go watch The Raid and The Raid 2. Anyway, there is a lot of good stuff in those arts, especially the knife fighting. But sadly, you can't really study it the same way you can other arts with lots of live drills as a beginner, as most of it is designed to snap body parts and to kill (it is a killing art after all), so safely doing live drills, with just restraint instead of snapping or dislocating joints is difficult. Like Aikido, it's one of those arts where you should already know how to fight before trying to learn how to apply it.

Fighters should not think about techniques. Techniques manifest themselves as a situation unfolds. They need to learn principals and apply them. Look at Salahuddin Muhammad's aiki jujutsu seminars.
