Sometimes when I pet my Milo's cheeks he will start rumbling. Id lose my finger though if I pet his chin lol

I taught my piggies to shake hands for pea flakes. Once they learned that good things happen when you let the human touch your toes, nail trims became much less stressful. And of course they loved chin skritchies!

My Bruno actually wheeks when you pet him on the back. It's wierd.

I kept thinking of you & Timmy yesterday as it was first time ever that I decided to put pig to sleep like you did with Timmy. She passed as I held her in the visit before the procedure. The body language is very important in knowing what they like. I've had a few guinea pigs who liked bellyrubs. They would go a bit on their side and stretch one hind leg to make their side more accessible. Currently I have one that likes butt rubs. He just goes flat when I pet his lower back. But he's a very trusting piggy and just relaxes at almost every touch. They're all so different.

One of my girlies just loves cuddle time and purrs if I scratch around her chin, do not go past half way though!

Never pet your pig against the grain! Lots of piggies have 'cowlicks' all over and its hard to pet them without disturbing them, Theyre kinda like cats, normally cats don't like to be pet 'the opposite way' And Ive never had a piggie who liked their butt touched, Ive had a few who loved belly rubs though and would flop to their sides and let me get that lil tummy. I had a piggie once who loved his back feet rubbed, he would lay on his side and let me rub inbetween his lil toes and stretch his leg out really far. It depends on the piggie!

My guinea pigs are starting to let me pick them up without trying to hide. One of them likes to be pet even when I hold her but the other is a bit more scared and prefers to be petted in her home. I think it is because when I got them one of them had a dry eye. So I had to lubricate her eye and I think she was enjoying it and that's why she is not as afraid as her sister. But both of them seem to like me. If other people come and visit they are not that trusty but I feel they trust me in a way.

My 4 year old, Snickers loves to get her belly rubbed. She will start cleaning her paws. It’s an easy way to calm them down when she starts freaking out.

People and piggies both need time to trust- so true! Mine loved chin rubs. Charlie Brown only let me pet him for a short time, then head-butted my hand. When I respected his wishes, he’d lay on me for over an hour. Until it was time to use that certain corner of his cage, then he’d nibble gently, but relentlessly. Nothin’ like pig cuddles!🥕💜

I read online if my guinea pig stretches on top of me is because he really trusts me. I carry him every day since he was little. He slept over shoulder today with his head tilt on my chest when I'm laying down on my bed. Another time he stretches is when i give him head scratches and then his cheek and i pet him on his entire face with my palm & fingers kind of reaching to the middle of his body and he stretches ,yawns and purrs lol. He also loves when i change his bedding , he just knows when its clean that he popcorns. So yea i think he really trusts me but hes a brat sometimes, i spoil him like a lot i would say.

I've had a couple of pigs who have been really ticklish. They're not fond of being tickled and will jump and kick out of you hit the right spot! My Panda loves having his rear end scritched, he'll stretch and kick his back legs out!. My other boy, Vinnie, is the complete opposite.

Clay begs for chin scratches. If peeko is standing next to him, and I go to pet peeko too, Clay licks my hand until I stroke him again. Sometimes he even nestles his head under my hand again. Clay is really becoming “needy” (not saying it in a bad way!) and affectionate. Clay follows me around the cage as I’m trying to clean, and one time I was stroking peeko on the complete opposite side from Clay, and Clay comes running over 😂 Peeko loves the affection too, he’s just not as in your face about it, unlike Clay who will demand more love ❤️ Peeko is often standing next to him, looking up as if to say “I’d like some too, if I could please.” Whilst Clay is clambering up the fiddle sticks tunnel to get chin scratches (he never gets treats there, he knows he only gets pets there; they both beg somewhere else for a pea flake or when I’m bringing the veggies).

My Guinea pigs run every time I try to pick them up or get near them. I got them at our Humane Society and they were skiddish from the beginning. Once I get them I hold them and love on them.

Thanks for a great video Scotty. My piggies don’t like having their noses petted. They flip their heads back. Top of head between the ears okay, ears and chin lovely, but leave my nose alone! Roosevelt like to be scratched on his chest and chin; he puts his paws on my hand and blisses out. I’ve noticed Saskia seems to run her hands down their sides when she does exams. Is that a soothing thing, or is she checking for lumps? Always wondered.

Also important to note when petting that new owners need to know to ONLY PET in the direct of the hair not against because it’s painful to the piggies and pulls and pinches ~ they don’t like it. I have seen videos on Facebook of people roughly rubbing their piggy back and forth from head to rear asking why does my piggy bite? Or dislike me? I feel so badly that they have sense that u can just see from body language alone and the piggy is head butting his hand off and squeaking in a loud and painful distressed manner, not a usually wheeking sound u normally hear. It’s so important to pay attention to their cues and it’s not hard to tell when they are happy or not. These signals are pretty universal no matter the species...

So when they close their eyes and are chill, they kinda like it?

It's really funny after watching this video that I learned that they usually hate belly touches. One of my guinea pigs hates all of the "regular" petting spots and loooves only belly rubs 😅

Coconut LOVES chin scratches and will stand or lay there with her head up and just closing eyes like ohhhh yeah.. my others do not.. Pumpkin is the nose scratch bit only if you're holding her, but she comes to the edge of the cage like she wants to get pets (or food)... pooh-butt she doesn't really like pets most of the time. Coconuts the snuggle butt of the group

If you think about, out in the wild, if a predator is chasing you and you're running away, your bum is the most vulnerable, the predator is going to chomp down on your cute little fluffy bum and make a meal out of you! 😲 It took me a long time to get Maggie used to me touching her bum, eventually she realized bum rubs weren't so bad. It got to the point that during cuddles she wasn't comfortable unless her bum was safely tucked into the palm of my hand. Bandit LIVES chin tickles and brain massages. Patience, treats, love and respect for their boundaries.

My pigs sit there if you pet them on the head, if you pet down their back they start to purr and if you go to their bum they spazz out and their legs do funny things like a dog. I don't get the impression they dislike being petted on the bum but I do think it's an intense feeling for them, like a tickle for us humans. They only take it for a few seconds before popcorning and running away

Our girls must be weird, they love scratching behind the ears and down their spine- Bubbles always purrs when I do it, LouLou only sometimes purrs but flattened out like asking for more. They sometimes let me scratch their belly’s and love chin rubs, tilting their nose up so high you’re afraid the’ll fall over backwards. During lap time LouLou will poke her nose under my fingers if I stop petting.
