My advice for people new to the fighting games genre: just pick whoever you think looks cool. Ignore tier lists (they dont matter for 99.9% of players anyway). Ignore 'beginner-friendly characters'. Just play whoever you like.
I'm new to Street Fighter but not fighting games as a whole (I've played the Mortal Kombat and Injustice games) and I plan to play Juri, she seems like a cool character Anyway I absolutely agree with this
@@TempDevil that's good cause eventually you'll pick the person you liked from the start it always happens to me. I wanted to play Steve but was told he was too hard spent months on asuka and went back to Steve and now I love playing him ame with kage in sfv I play ken better but I enjoy kage more and he naturally fits me more than any other characters
💯 agree. As someone who has played fighting games since the damn near beginning (I'm talking about Arcade days😉) it usually comes down to who you like. The skill comes after the "connection " and the countless losses/lessons from playing with the character against the computer & other players. Like damn near everything else in life to be good you have to put in the work and remain relentless & persistent.
Totally agree. At the end of the day, it's about having fun. As a kid, I wasn't thinking about ranks and tiers. I just picked who I liked and learned how to play them. That was it. It was that simple. And fun.
As A vision impaired fighter I have always had to play an offence first style. Given the new accessibility options in Street fighter 6 I will have the opportunity to try other approaches which is something I am really looking forwards to. Now because of the audio indicators I will know exactly where the opponent is so will be able to play a more defensive game perhaps. Or I could go and do what I normally do, throw out SPDs randomly, hoping they land. Thank you for the very informative video John.
I never ever play zoners, but his design in this game looks SO FIRE. Do you already play charge characters? cus i feel like it's gunna be massive learning curve for me
I have to say, seeing Manon do their thing forced a constant giddy smile on my face. I've never been one for grapplers but I cant resist styling on people like that.
Manon alongside her theme song, is interesting. I see her once in the right hands online being a menace against so many. You can just tell based on her style.
This game's gonna be so good, I've got like 7 characters on my list. Absolutely in love with footsie based characters like Jamie, Ryu, and Dee Jay. Grapplers are a day one too, with Manon, Zangief, Lily and Marisa. How do you even choose aaaaaa
Only 7? Weaksauce. I wanna play like half the starting roster. Blanka and Lily for unga bunga, Kimberly and Jamie for style, Gief and Manon for scoops, Cammy and Ken for rushdown, and JP for setups.
@@SharkWithFreakinLaserBeam 7 is a lot when you need to ideally narrow it down to 2 you stick with for competition lol but yeah even Cammy and Ken look sweet and I've never been interested in them before.
@@TheBigEmstos that's your opinion. Just like my opinion of Tekken is that it's a trash game that bows down to street fighter. It's so trash they they had to ask Capcom to add Akuma to that trash ass Tekken roster.
I noticed that everyone talks about cammy's button hold mechanic in sf6 but no one ever mentions that Luke has the same mechanic. I think that's important to bring up for new players Also day one Kimberly main.
@@ArkticDark honestly at this point of day they have Luke's his combos were very timing heavy in SF5. I think of the "shoto" characters he's probably the most advanced at a high level EH might want to consider that
@@ArkticDark Sort of. Guile actually gives you different projectile timing, but it's simply to learn cause it's mostly helpful for zoning. Wherea's looks timing changes the frame advantage the longer it's held and landing certain combos requires a specific window to succesfully juggle. So I assume Cammy will be more like Luke in that sense, which makes them both slightly harder to learn conversions with.
@@rmcf3972 A little bit. She's more like Guy from SF4 than Zeku though. Zeku had a bunch of unique stuff to him, with a few parts of Guy's movelist seperated into different stances. Whereas Kimberly has all of Guy's moves + more things to make he trickier and harder to get away from.
Ryu has always been part of my character selections in the series. Always ends up as my 1st/2nd character. He seems the most fun to me when I played the beta. Probably gonna be sticking with him until Sakura comes out. I'm extremely interested with playing the grapplers with Modern controls though
Akuma : If you enjoy bringing Compete pain and havoc to all who dare challenge you as they bow to your great might and skill, this is the character for you.
Marisa and JP are the two that seem to fit my play style the best Marisa for finding openings and dealing short big damage JP looks like Bison from SF5 with BlazeBlue-like projectile shenanigans
I think I'll try Manon in sf6 I like her moves. Also this is basically my first fighting game, as in I really wanna get into fighting games with this one
Remember to focus on improving, and not on winning. If you dont have fun while you lose youll never last long in fighting games. The secret is to enjoy your wins as the fruit of your work, and to use your losses as a way to analyze what you did wrong, so you can not fall for the same tricks from now on. The reason we love fighting games is because theres no other genre in the world that can compare to the feeling of winning an extremely close match that you were only able to pull off because you had to fight that playstyle over and over again. One of my best memories was losing again and again to this akuma i met online, everytime he popped in my ranked queue. On our first duel i really thought he was so above me i would never beat him. But every match i got a little closer, until after a bunch of matches against other players, i finally played him again, and won through the skin of my teeth. Youre the one leveling up, so make sure to always remember the whole point isnt to win, it is to experience the journey and effort it takes, so that victory is a thousand times sweeter.
Manon seems like she's gonna be the character everyone whines about for the first few weeks. People are so used to grapplers needing to be right in your face, they're gonna get super confused by Manom grabbing them from med. kick distance and go online to vent
@@rjg27an awesome comment to read for myself, as I haven't been back since the 4 series. Much appreciated for sure. Takes me back to those days when battle was frustrating but with practice and remaining was it only able to grow better. But again. Thank you.
Really excited to try Jamie out based on what you said here! Playing from behind always fires me up and I love comeback mechanics because of the mind game pressure it puts on your opponent!
This is gonna be my first Street Fighter that I’ve played outside the ones in the arcade as a kid, and I’m pretty excited but nervous at the same time! As a serious Tekken player, Street Fighter’s mechanics are pretty foreign to me, but I’m hoping I can become a great Kimberly and Cammy player in due time!
Yeah I haven't really played a Street Fighter games since SF2 on the SNES as a kid haha. I've mostly played Mortal Kombat and Soul Calibur, so it'll be interesting to get used to Street Fighter 6.
As someone who played a lot of Vega on SFIV, I'm thinking maybe I should pick Lily. She reminds me of his playstyle a lot with her pokes and hit confirms.
No joke, the footage kinda landed that way initially and I though I was planning on moving things around, I saw that it lined up and so edited some of the stuff around it to keep it that way :D
I wanna play Chun Li because her kicks and generally massive legs are really cool, but I heard she only works well in the Classic control scheme which I absolutely can't get down xD
I find I am an offensive heavy fighter. I like Shoto-fighters like Ken and Ryu, but also love Chun-Li and Juri. Lucky for me, all four of them are here. I also like Makoto, Ibuki, Guile, and Sakura.
Thanks so much! I'm using this to decide which characters to check out first. Currently I'm mainly thinking between JP and Jamie, both characters who seem capable of creating passive pressure in neutral - Jamie through using the threat of potions to force approaches and JP through using his rifts to cover options. I'll have to see which one feels better once I actually sit down and play for a while. I really wanted to play Kimberly based on her visual design but I don't think she would gel with me at all, I'll still give her a shot though.
I'll go in with Kimberly. Sf6 seems to have a fairly steep learning curve, so not burdening yourself with a whole bunch of characters at the start will definitely speed up the learning process. I'll probably add a secondary after s1 DLCs have dropped.
My top 5 characters to play off the bat are Cammy, Jamie, Deejay, Ken and Manon but the whole roster looks viable and fun. Can't wait to see what they do with Rashid, Akuma and A.K.I!!! Cammy and Ken being rush down orientated i'm likening a lot i always tend to be good with these two, the same with DeeJay he looks to have some great mix up potential and he's back with a fake out too lets gooooooooo as i mained him in 4 very excited he's returning. The newcomers tho, Manon is an interesting take on a grappler but the Savate/Ballet angle seems fun and she's Se Magnifique. Jamie with his drunken monkey/b-boy moveset need i say more he carries such style and fluidity and looks fun as hell defo playing him.
Cammy looks interesting gameplay-wise and damn did they make her hot as all hell. Ken's demo gameplay in the video was so fluent and interesting too and I always favored Ryu over Ken but he looks amazing in this game. DeeJay looks great in this game as well, the fakeouts look like it'll be fun to play him but might be a bit too hard for me. I usually steer far away from grapplers in SF because of their inputs but I consider playing Zangief simply because he looks too cool to skip, and with the modern control scheme maybe he becomes easy enough for me, we'll see. Jamie definitely looks amazing but I think he will have a steeper learning curve as you need to know which parts of kit you have access to with each drink level and also use the current level according to your current matchup, but he surely looks like a great fighter to watch. Even Blanka looks dope and that says something in my opinion.
@@TheMaDNiaC Yes I completely agree even the likes of Zangeif and Blanka characters I never play are looking very appealing SF6 has made everyone viable. Ken I've also kinda like a tad more than Ryu maybe due to the Fire aspect of his moveset but I'm really loving the look of him he takes the best of 5 and some of 4 the rushdown aspect shines through easily one of my most anticipated characters to get my hands on.
From the descriptions and design, I like Manon, Kimberly, Cammy, and Lily. They seem to fit my playstyle. I generally know the types of characters I like, but it can change depending on the fighting game
They went so hard on grapplers with this initial roster, feels like sf6 will focus a lot more on them. I've managed to get my list down to 4 characters, either jamie, cammy, juri or luke, but a lot of other are also interesting.
@@SharkWithFreakinLaserBeam might be a good thing for grappler players, but the majority of the playerbase doesn't like when grapplers are too good and I don't see them going against the wishes of most of the community for very long.
@@xaviervega468 hey we'll see, they usually end up in mid to low tier as time goes on until now. I think they should have a fair shot like every other archetypes, but a large portion of the community hates grapplers, we'll have to wait and see if the pattern repeat itself or not.
@@MrOrzeker I'm especially expecting Manon to be the designated "go vent online every time she beats you" character for a few weeks. I think it'll take people a while to understand how to deal with her.
I'm bad at fighting games. I loved USF4 and played it against AI for a bit. Played MK11 with my brother quite a bit and a little bit online. Played SF5 a little against my brother and online. Out of all these, I didn't like SF5 much, it didn't have the same feel or spirit as USF4 to me. I sucked at both of them nonetheless. SF6 on the other hand seems to have a lot of spirit and a great art style. Even the fighters which I probably won't play much due to their playstyle or difficulty of their inputs seem like great picks because they all look so cool. I think I will only skip Marisa, Lily & JP probably, but the rest of them look dope. I will probably still play Ryu for a while because he is the cornerstone of the game and I think understanding him is a good starting point. But even Zangief looks to be very very fun and I usually steer far far away from grapplers normally. Chun-Li looking dope but I think she might be too hard. From the new characters, Jamie looks great but I think he might have a steep learning curve as well. I haven't had any of the SF5 DLCs so even though he was in SF5, I never played Luke or have seen anyone playing him online, but he looks like a very interesting pick. Not a massive MMA follower but I appreciate its inclusion as an enjoyer of the sport.
I'll probably stick to my favorite 3: Chun-li Ken, and Juri(from SF4 as I never played SFV). I don't think Chun-li will be that hard to master, her stance is just some extra sprinkles on top. Dee-Jay and Lilly do look interesting though. I think my three faves will be both offensive and defensive. Actually, thanks to the drive system, I think we'll have an SF4 style where no one will play one character the same except for Jamie and Kimberly.
I was big into sf4 on Xbox (still pissed I had to miss sf5). Top 100 with Hugo, so, while not quite the same, I'm probably gonna main Marisa. She seems the closest and I quite like the impacts she has. Kinda bummed no sagat though.
As a street fighter newbie, the open beta showed me how bad i was, im gonna pick whoever who i like and enjoy. Gonna avoid metas as im a noob and no point.
Footsies = Ground game in fighting games. Means your movements on the ground, dashing, pokes, etc. so no jumping attacks or air things. You don't have to watch the other video for that.
I'll be trying em all out this time, but I already know I will most likely be sticking with Gief. When there's no Akuma and no Poison, I default to grapplers like Gief or Alex. Been that way since SF2.
Awesome video, but since I'll be waiting for Super Ultimate Tournament Championship Hyper Turbo edition, this information will be outdated by the time I play
Play who you want. I've played Street Fighter and various fighting games for years and while the "easy to learn" characters can help you get started, it can leave a bad impression if you don't have fun during the learning process. Play whoever looks fun and if you're not sure, just try the coolest looking character and give it a shot. Having fun is infinitely more important than just learning to play for beginners since you'll be more inclined to learn if you really enjoy a character.
Didn't think I'd see you here. Honestly I'm going to try out all the characters but the ones that catch my eye atm are Ryu, Luke, Jaime, Dee jay, Zangief and Manon.
I'll definately go for Malon. As a proud Judoka who had to adapt my moves to match my tall height, Malon represents the one side of Judo that nobody sees in media. Plus, she is a french ballet dancer. It's a pretty unique combo. Probably i'll second either ChunLi or Lily.
I hope she’s decent. I feel like she might have a hard time against a lot of characters, but I also feel like she come from a character who’s never been good and she might have a hard time with anyone who’s got better footsies. Totally might be wrong though
Ill play Ken/Guile as they are my fav. characters to play. Probably gonna give a try to others but I can see using mostly Ken and Guile. Cant wait for Gouki tho.
Where’s Akuma? This is why I didn’t rush out and buy this day one. And now I might as well wait until they release the Super Mega Arcade Fighting Turbo Championship Edition just so I can get my guy on a physical copy. Thanks Capcom.
Top 3 list that doesnt involve akuma because he wasnt in the vid, 1. Jp he looks beast and reminds me of that image of the colonel that looked badass. 2. Blanka because hes been a fav forever. 3. Ryu again an instant classic who i always had in my go to list. And Dee jay as an honorable mention and a back pocket option because he might move up on my list.
