In this video, we recommend the right SIZE for your first skateboard.
Find out the right sizes for skaters:
- Ages 5 and under
- Ages 6-10
- Teens & Adults
We also discuss how the type of skateboarding you want to do will affect the size and shape of your board from street skating, ramp skating to cruising.

I'm 5'5", 120 lbs, shoe size 6.5. I prefer smaller width boards because the length is shorter. It's harder to do tricks with longer boards. I'm a bit disappointed that skateboard manufacturers don't offer 7.75 in shorter lengths. Some do but I don't like the designs very much.

6’1, 245 lb body builder / strongman with 10.5 shoe size. Used to ride 7.75 but thinking I need at least an 8’ now. Any suggestions? Skated in the early 2000’s, want to get back in to it. Mini ramp, grinds, slides, basic flip trucks. Are Elements still good? Loved the Fiberlites. Element always had great pop & strength.

Check out the Powell Flight deck. It’s carbon fiber reinforced so it’s super strong. For size I would say 8.25 would be good for extra stability maybe even 8.5 but that’s a lot wider than a 7.75 that you were used to. 8.25 is right in the middle so you can size up or down without changing trucks

Please, what are the measurements (including length) of those cruisers, particularly the Globe with the flames. I just got a 7.9W/27L Globe cruiser. However, I'm 6'5" with size 14 shoes! It's certainly teaching me stability but I think i might give it to my 10 year old and upgrade. That flame one looks good. Thanks :)

Maybe for your next board you can look for the same width but go for a slightly shorter length. You wouldn't have to change your trucks since it's the same width. Sometimes you can find them a little shorter. I'm 5'6" so I've even looked for shorter boards within the same width and have found it helps. Good luck! -Kevin

well in that case u couldve gone around 7 -- 7.75 , if u have a skate shop near u its best to go and ask if u can step on the boards to see what u like, if not then get a 7.3 or a 7.5

i usually see girls ride 7.75, sometimes 8.0. But its really up to each one's preference. Just try each size once and see whats best for you

if ur having trouble popping tricks then yes, go the nearest 7.5 or 7.3 and if u have a skate shop near u its always good to ask. If it doesnt bother u 8.25 then its all preference,

Yea u can skate any size you want there’s no rules in skateboarding , I wear a size 9 and skate a 7.75 but I’ve skated all sizes 7.75 is just what I like for my style of skating it’s what I’m comfortable on

If you don’t mind standing on an 8.25 I would go with that since it will be easier to maneuver starting out. You can always size up down the road if you wanna see what an 8.5 feels like. (And the same trucks should be fine for a 0.25 inch change). Enjoy!

Aisya Damia at your age and height we would generally recommend anywhere between 7.75-8. Always best to stand on the board first to make sure it feels right if you can. Enjoy!

ii_Wxlter decks 7.5” and up are all about the same from 30-32” long, usually wider ones are on the longer side. But the length isn’t as important as the width which is the primary dimension. Boards under 7.5” are usually a bit shorter, around 26” long, good for a much shorter skater. Hope that helps!

Standard sized boards go all the way down to 7.5. We call them kid sized but that’s what we were all riding back in the 90s. You should be able to find some completes in that size for sure. Decks might be harder to come by

It doesn’t really matter. I’m the same height as you and skate a 8.75. As long as you are comfortable with the board the size doesn’t really matter

its weird how big ass boats are now the regular skateboard I ride an 8, and I've had dudes ask me why I skate such a little board I'd bet in 5 or 6 years small boards will be the hotness again

I rode 7.75 for years and gradually sized up to 8.5 as my skating changed. Now I’m hovering around 8.25. But yeah I’m starting to see people size down now. Maybe as pants get bigger again the boards will get smaller lol. But in general I think there will be even more range with board sizes with different varieties of tricks and terrain.

Hey you know what, skate what looks fun and nice to you, whatever you want, there is no rules in skateboarding ans nobody will tell you what board skate, i was 14 and I started on a 9.5, i learned kickflip in few Month on this board (i had small feet) Skate is not about rules in sizes of skates, skate is fun, motivation and determination, thats all it is.

13years and older the best board is 7.5 I'm using a 7.5 and I'm 12

Im 36 and i still skate under an 8. 8 is my max. Just used to the 7 - 7.5 I guess

Honestly not too much difference between those sizes but if you start with a a 8.38 you can decide for your next board if you wanna size up or down to a 8.5 or 8.25. I like to try little changes to see what works best

Hi, i'm 10 nearly 11, and i want a skateboard, width doesn't matter.. just need the perfect length i'm 4'8 feet tall..is 28-29 inch okay for me?? i don't really like long skateboards i want a small..just so tricks are easier.

That would work. If you're able, stand on a few different boards and see what feels best.
