I can definitely use HELP in this department.Because I'm so helplessly in love with a women from taiwan,This is the real reason that I started to study with you to learn to speak Mandarin to show her that I'm really trying to communicate to her because I don't want to be misunderstood eventhough she speaks English.I got it bad for her and she is not teaching at the same college anymore but I have a deep feeling that I will see her again.

Singing part of a romantic Chinese song usually attracts a Chinese girl's interest, because it shows I know about Chinese culture and it isn't so direct. Favorite romantic songs, qin ai de, ni man man fei, also of course lao shu ai da ma and Yo mei yo ren sen gause ni, won hen ai ni :)) Go to KTV to learn Chinese songs:))
I have tried the first one with some success. The second I haven't tried yet as would be somewhat harder to pull off I think. Anyways it's best to remember how meeting someone plays into the context of the situation I have found. Having the direct approach like we would do her in america for instance. Not necessarily is the right approach coming from a Chinese viewpoint. I guess it's more how one takes the indirect approach. Tried this at a museum while viewing a Fra Angelico painting lol. :b
@PeggyTeachesChinese What's the word you've translated as "corny"? It sounds like you2tiao2, but all I can think of for that is 油条...not quite the same! Love the videos! ;-)
I've been there twice. It's really a country to fall in love with. I was approached by different people within a few minutes when I wasn't sure what direction to go and people said I look confused and whether I need help! And I don't even have that much facial expression, I pretty much look always the same... Wonderful people and amazing food. (Only thing I didn't like was the hot whether)
@PeggyTeachesChinese i hate to argue, but im pretty sure that it should be denoted "nv" using chinese pinyin, where the "v" represents this character ǚ. while this "u" does have falling rising tone, it also has the two dots (umlaut) above it. this signifies a more unique sound which can also found in 鱼. keep up the nice videos~
I like it. You're funny. I especially like that you chose this topic cuz sooooooo many guys learn Chinese cuz they are motivated by a Chinese speaking girl. Can you explain near the end the phrase, "you nei han" - you have a content? That didn't really translate well in English. is it like, you're interesting, or you're really worth something?

@PeggyTeachesChines The cinematic quality of the first half was nice, and kinda funny. Only I think there was a little too long of a wait between phrases. Also, Peggy could you please put the pinyin in all your videos instead of just the Chinese charaters? It would make it a lot easier for who are actually trying to learn. Also, it would be very helpful if you could put the pinyin and the translation in the video description, so we could review after the video is finished.
I have a suggestion for future videos, could you please -not- write the Mandarin characters in bold? They are hard to read! Maybe just not putting them in bold or changing the font to a clearer one :P Otherwise I think your videos rock! Keep up the good work, I like to learn watching your videos :) And you do a lot of gestures but I think it helps too!
Hey Peggy, how about complimenting her style? You suggest not complimenting the appearance, but style can be classified beyond appearance as well. I would think a girl might like it if a guy thinks she has nice style or flava. But maybe it's better to be more specific?
@PeggyTeachesChinese Yes, I need curses in Chinese although when my wife gets really mad she uses English. It sounds weird when she uses the f-word ... :(.
@Supenmanu yea not really, the "like" translation is still way to strong to use, especially when first meeting. It translates into our like but its still very personal in chinese. and "i love you"?? yea you'd never say that, most people dont even say it even if they're married! i know somecouples who wont even say "i love you" using chinese, they have to say it in english because it doesnt carry the same weight
@PeggyTeachesChinese haha commenting on physical features? of course! i usually get a 你的嘴巴很甜 followed by giving me their number! however, i thikn that speaks more to the type of girls i ask out hah

@BuayaGuy Better say 印泥巴 for Indonesia. The first and second 的 are wrong. Instead 可以 I would use 会, cause it indicates she learned a language. For her native languages I would use 能.
