How to pinch off dahlias
First step you will need to take is
1. Have a pair of clippers clean and sharp, or you could use your fingers
2. I wait until the plant is about 10-18 inches tall
3. Find the center stem and countdown maybe 3 or 4 leaves sets
4. Then pinching off/cutting the top
5. I squeeze out the excess water to help it heal and dry faster. (Optional)
Why am I pinching off the top?
When cutting off the top of dahlia, this sends a signal to the plant. Oh no, the center is gone now. So, they need to produce more side shoots and then more flowers later on.
Maybe I'll get double or triple flowers this way.
Again, you don't have to do all of this if you want tall dahlias. I just like more flowers, and that's it. 😁🌸
