I watched this before the eclipse and couldn't believe that you had chosen the exact same location as I had! We had incredibly good fortune as the skies were clear and the weather warmed to 14°C on the 8th in PEI. Cold and cloudy the day before and after. Great viewing from the beach dunes.

Rafael - I LOVE your videos! My sister lives under the path of totality, so I'm thinking I get a double treat - total eclipse and visiting my sister. I watch your video and discover that I may get a triple treat!!! Adding a comet and some planets to what I may see and photograph! You guys deserve the MacArthur Genius Award. I am repeatedly astounded by the capabilities and creativity behind PhotoPills.

I always like your videos and found more informative, I would recommend you to have a bigger screen for the PhotoPills app where you show all the changes, and you can decrease your picture in a rectangular small frame in the corner.

I love your optimism toward the risk of clouds at the end. You can't take epic photos if you don't take risks! I'm located in New Brunswick, but have some family in Prince Edward Island, so that has been one of my backup locations if the weather on April 8th dictates a last minute change of plans. If I happen to see the PhotoPills group, I'll give a wave! :)

I'll keep my fingers crossed that you don't have any cloud cover! I read yesterday that the town mayor of Niagra on the Canadian side has declared an emergency for the 8th as he is expecting about 478,868,276 visitors to turn up! I've taken notes for when i drive from UK to Spain for the eclipse in August 2026. The last three eclipses we had here were clouded out. In fact the last two happened when i was at work and i didn't even bother going outside for given the thick cloud cover 😒 BAlso, being a welder i come readily equiped with viewing gear

Thanks for the bilingual video. I’ll be in Mazatlan Mexico for eclipse an look forward to hopefully see the shadow come in on the ocean. To capture both comet 12P and totality (assuming eclipse is centered for corona) what is a good focal length to use? Hope you come back to Sedona!

Thanks so much for this! Very helpful. Question: if I'm located in Picton, Ontario Canada on 4/8, will the comet still be in approximately the same location (above, left of the sun-moon) as you've demonstrated from your spot in PEI?? Thanks!!

How are you moving between eclipse panels? I get the panel that says "Total Solar Eclipse - April 8, 2024), but when I swipe it does not stay on the eclipse, but rather moves to "Galactic Center" or moon phases. Thanks!

Not yet... working on it for 2025 (I hope we can make it). But we have a written guide with all the cool astronomical events in 2024 (including a few comets): www.photopills.com/articles/astronomical-events-photography-guide

How could I visualize the height of a landmark (bridge or mountain in the near distance or building) against the height of the eclipse in the sky during the partial eclipse phases?
@PhotoPills
@PhotoPills 5 месяцев назад
You an use the AR view or use Panel 2 above the Map. Place the Black Pin on your subject. Choose a shooting spot where the eclipse is aligned with the subject/black pin... and Panel 2 will tell you the height of the center of the Sun above the terrain level where the Black Pin is. Follow the exact same workflow in this video for the Moon. But for the eclipse: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-u8OLTsKTDwY.html

@@PhotoPills for AR view, do I need to physically be at the location, or can i get that sense of the bridge in the background and the sun/moon in the sky sitting in my living room?
