I take you behind the scenes as I plan my upcoming online art sale. I'll explain my strategy for selecting the date of the sale, how I plan to promote the sale and the logistics of actually hosting an online sale.
Simply putting up images on a web site is not enough. There is an incredible amount of work that goes into hosting a successful online sale and I will share with you what I have learned after hosting many online sales.

I really liked what you said in webinar "people think they have business problem, when actually they have art problem." So true, people trying to figure out how to do marketing, how to sell, when many of them should have focused on quality of their work. And thats my goal now to get better and make only "wow" paintings

That is the key 🔑 And realizing that “talent” is not some sort of “gift” that you either have or don’t have... it is something you acquire through hours and hours of dedicated practice of your craft👍

another great video! Congratulations!! I have a question. What would you suggest for someone like me who: 1. doesn't want a bunch of sales. Just enough to pay for materials. Time doesn't matter. I'm retired. I don't want to have to run a full-fledged business. been there, done that in a different business. 2. is a hermit. introvert. has 30 friends on facebook 3. Doesn't want to have to package and mail my art out. I want to deal with people in person 4. needs more exposure online, although my art does sell in spurts. But I don't want them to be piling up in our little house either. I have given a lot of my art away for gifts, trade-outs, fundraisers, free out on a table in our front yard, etc. Please don't tell me I shouldn't be an artist. I can't stop, haha :) Basically want to know how to get more exposure online and other avenues available to prevent my art from piling up at home. Suggestions and advice welcome.

I think that in art you either have to treat it as a hobby and take whatever sales you get as a bonus or treat it seriously as a profession. It's kind of like asking how can I become just good enough as golfer to pay for my membership at a club? Not sure there is a reliable way to do that either.

@timParker Hello Tim do you print the Gilles yourself or do you use a printing company. If you use a printing company how do you keep your cost low?

I print them myself. I use an Epson giclee printer.

Do you ship the works on stretchers framed or rolled?
@timpackerfinearts
@timpackerfinearts 2 года назад
We ship the giclees mounted on stretchers ready to hang. We used to just offer shipping the giclees rolled in a tube but found that most people did not want the hastle of getting it stretched themselves. Our sales went up considerably when we started shipping them ready to hang. It is more expensive but the profit margins are so hight that it is worth it... but we only do that for the US or Canada. We will ship it rolled in a tube for the same price to the UK or Europe but if they want it shipped stretched they have to pay the extra shipping costs.

Hey Tim, Thanks for your talk....I get into Juried shows, painted for 30 years but several mediums, but sales could be better. Any thoughts?

Hey bro, thanks for the informative video! i am in the process of launching my own site with my art for sale, would you recommend doing this in december with christmas coming, or should i wait until next year? I have no experience in shipping and selling my art online so i think i might make some beginner mistakes..
@timpackerfinearts
@timpackerfinearts 2 года назад
I would definitely figure out all of the specifics before going live with sales. I think the worst thing would be to generate a lot of sales and then not be able to fulfill them in a reasonable amount of time. Particularly in time for Christmas. If you can get everything set up and be ready to fill orders and ship in time for Christmas... then I would do that. If not then I would wait until the new year 😊👍

@@timpackerfinearts Thank you for the response, i appreciate that! I will try to get everything ready in between commission work. Which time of the year do you then think that it would be most beneficial to launch an online store as an artist? Could january work or would be people be more inclined to save their money after christmas ? 😁

@Life Advice I generally find that the Spring and the Fall are the best time for having a show.
