Thanks for the video!! A lot of good information! Even for a guy like me who has been all over the world, a lot of good reminders and things to consider!
I appreciate the kind words! Thanks for watching! Let me know if there's anything you'd like to see me cover to help you prepare for your future overlanding plans!
That's where I'm heading at the end of the month with my German Shepherd (Nikko's first camp out). Looking forward to it and trying out my new RTT/Awning.
Thanks for making easy to understand, clear cut videos on a subject that seems overwhelming. I think I subscribed after the first 3 minutes. I'm looking to get a 4Runner TRD Pro soon and plan to add camping and a little off-roading to my outdoor adventures.
Glad you found it helpful! Thanks for subscribing, I’m happy to have you here! My goal is to make the videos that I wish existed when I was just getting started and trying to figure this all out, because it can definitely seem overwhelming. Hit me up if you’ve ever got questions or anything, I’m happy to help!
Man your videos really inspired me to start hitting trails just got my wheels and tires for my rig I went with the Nitto Ridge Grapplers there great man but looking to purchase my recovery stuff and a tent as well keep them videos coming man Thank you!
Lmao 5 seconds in, I saw the likes to dislikes ratio and I immediately clicked like. Without seeing this or any of your videos. Still haven't watched it but it must be good so you deserve the like. I'll reply to my comment with what I think after watching 😆
Just came across your channel. I have a 19 Tacoma I've been working on. Love your t4r, almost bought one when looking at the taco. Very nice on the videos!
@@BenStinnett I was good with either, but the gf liked the truck more so we went that way. Either way they are a great choice. I love up here in the pnw so I plan on trading full advantage of this area and starting to overland
thanks so much for the advice! i've been struggling to find the courage to approach more groups and people in real life. I'd really love to get to know and learn more about overlanding by taking baby steps.. prolly have to get over my shyness first lol
Thanks for the recommendation about forest service roads! I used avenza for section hikes on the superior hiking trail, and it has all the forest service maps for the superior hiking trail! It has all the dispersed locations labeled, and I'm excited to use it for my first overland adventure in Colorado.
Great advice. One tip from me.. I like to use the Google 3D maps to "pre-tour" some routes. I've found rough patches that might be more than my rig can take and I've found camp spots that way. Also, download the Offline Google Maps! Star spots that you want to see. also.. bring a GOOD camera.
Great advice, Ben! Research is definitely a must and it’s always good to have a “plan B” just incase of unexpected closers, etc... I’m headed out to the Panamint Springs area in a few weeks after I get my Icon suspension done. I’m so ready to get the truck dirty!!!! Great video brother!
Really great video! Thank you so much! But pleeeaaase invest in some simple lighting, it would make the a7III really shine :D . The Footage looks great already but with a simple 50 bucks softbox it would be perfect! Stay safe and have fun! greeting from Germany, Filip
Yes, absolutely! Just be realistic about what you'll be able to do with it. Maintained USFS roads and campsites will be no problem. Push your limits when you're out with other rigs who can help!
Hi Ben , great tips. Say you plan your route on the Gaia website and know the exact distance /milage of the entire adventure /trip. Also gives ya an idea of how hard it will be on your off-road vehicle. Do you plan refueling way points in towns so you never run out of gas ⛽️? Do you assume fuel consumption rate higher than the vehicle specs? Or do you modify your toyota for greater fuel capacity? Do You carry extra fuel storage containers? Thanks 🙏🏻
Hey Rome! That’s what I love about doing a little route planning beforehand. I can have a much more accurate picture of the distances between campsites, different trail offshoots, as well as a much better idea of how many hours I should plan to be on the trail! I typically try to plan refueling stops in towns along the way. I’ve seen the impact of tough tails on my MPG, so I basically assume my average MPG will be ~20% worse than my usual. I’d love to explore something like an auxiliary fuel tank, but haven’t yet. I’ve got a standard Jerry can I’ll carry when I need it!
I've always been into camping, hiking, scuba diving, rappelling, skydiving, and exploring. I recently purchased a 2021 Tacoma TRD Pro. Will the overlanding community think i'm a poser? Thanks
Hey man! You won't get any hate from me, I say the more the merrier! Everyone should find a way to get out and explore! I'm sure there's plenty of people in the community that call me a poser too, I just don't pay them any attention. I don't have time for the gate keepers or haters.
Hey Ben- great videos. I’m just starting out….pseudo overlanding when I retire this July. I’m purchasing a outback wilderness. As far as safety, what do you recommend buying first /priority for recovery gear?
As a beginner overlander / offroader. are those training expeditions worth the money? Offroadexperience, overlandexperts, discoveroffroading have introductory courses and such that look fun, especially for someone new to the areas and the hobby. Are they actually worth it?
Hey Joseph! It's a great question, and I'm afraid my answer may not be the most useful. I think that if courses are within your budget, it's a great way to explore a new area, meet some like-minded folks in the community, and pick some some new skills (or sharpen existing ones). Similarly, events like Overland Expo that have off-road training and experiences can be super beneficial, or even just linking up with a local offroad club for a group trip.
Hey Andy! I’m sorry man, I’m not nearly familiar enough with the East coast to point you in a particular direction. My quick search on OnX Off-road makes it look like Allegheny National Forest on the border with PA might be your best bet. I also know Venture4wd here on RU-vid spends a good amount of time on the East coast! Good luck 👍
