It's my third year for existing clover plot. First year was OK, last year was great. Frost seeded again this year, looking forward to another great clover plot this year. No chemicals, just mow to maintain! Thank's for all the information!👍☘

Have tried clover a few times in small areas with success. Now want to plant 3+ arces in crimson. In future could you post a list of sprays and suppliments (fertilizers etc.). Great info.

Seen the Hot Chic on the thumbnail, I'll be planting some of that later this year but I did pick up a jug of the Comeback Kid to put down. Excited to see how it does.

@@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors although I didn't spray for weeds I just ran a drag back & forth. Deffently plan on mowing and picking up some of that IMox when my piggy bank gets a little heavier. I may have to depend on the mowing with my extremely tight budget. Also thought about posting a few video's of my progress on my other channel.

Solid information. Im gonna try the no till method this year. Gonna spray tomorrow, then mid summer, then again right before broadcasting my winter wheat and clover. What's your opinion on white vs red clover? Or maybe mix the two? Planting about an acre total

IMO planting alike, white & ladino will give u a great blend for a perennial plot that perseveres. But it's a 2 year process. Late March here in MN is a great time to spread lime for your upcoming spring plot. However the year b4 it's beneficial to plant a buckwheat cover crop for the summer. I've found that in areas infested with weeds that the buckwheat is a great natural solution to be on your way for both an annual fall plot or playing the long game for perennial clover. Attraction is one thing but if u have deer that try to peak out with poor nutrion then the body of those bucks will be their 1st priority, not the antlers. Powdered lime during snowmelt & the rain that comes in April which coincides with the week the frost comes out of the ground will give u the best prep for success. After that initial Buckwheat cover crop tilling isn't needed & u can walk through that mature Buckwheat with a broadcaster spreading wheat. Then all that is needed is to drag a compactor over the Buckwheat. I like to spread that wheat seed just b4 a good rain after a nice hot August day. That Buckwheat will trap that moisture & give u a better chance of having a food source for the deer that fall. If it's a smaller plot & u want tonnage u could do a blend of rape, kale, radish & turnips for most tonnage but just remember the goal is that summer perennial plot that starts early the next spring.

Another great video! I am a new subscriber anyway picked up 47 acres of land that was an old stone quarry over 20 years ago basically where they dug out all the rock and sand over the years few pines and mostly thatch has grown in I know the pH is super low and acidic haven’t done a soil test yet but made 2 quarter acre plots and a half acre plot all tilled up and so far just added about a ton of lime sum 19-19-19 and frost seeded some clover yesterday any suggestions other than that would be much appreciated. When it comes to planting different seed mixtures such as comeback kid and a brassica mix, what advise would you offer for timing? The plot sizes are small micro plots in out of the way places.

I love planting a wide variety of clovers. One problem I have is hogs love clover more than deer.
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors 2 года назад
For sure. Hogs can tear some stuff up. Wipe ya out

This is perfect timing. I have 2 new plots that I am wanting to convert into 100% clover plots. It gets pretty hot and dry in the summers here in MO. Should I be concerned with the germination for the summer months?
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors 2 года назад
I’m not familiar with MO but I should of mentioned in dry areas it could be a issue. If you are planting in may and you usually get rain then I would say you are good.

I’d look into chicory as an add on to the clover. It has longer tap roots and doesn’t go dormant as clover will in the heat.

Great video! Where do you get your soil samples tested? What cost do the sample costs typically run?

I get them multiple different ways. I get then from domain outdoors. They have their own. I also get them on Amazon they are usually about 15 bucks. Then if you go to your local feed store, ag store etc they usually have a brand called way point. They get shipped to way point and then email you the results .

I accidentally threw out rye seed in October. I see it coming in good although it’s useless. I frost seeded clover and chickory a few weeks back before the snow. Do you think it’ll compete with rye for a good root? Rye grass btw. Been Lyming the heck out of it. The ph was 5.7. Probably wasted my seed of clover
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors 2 года назад
Probably will for sure. Rye grass is hard to get rid of. Once it all Germinates you’ll definitely have to spray for the rye grass

Hey Dave thanks for all the great info I'm going to put in a food plot at our farm in Wayne county pa there is a lot of farm land but nobody has corn or soybeans it's all grasses to feed beef cattle . Our foels have some clover in it and not sure what the other stuff is u was woundering what to plant have no means to equipment to plant corn or beans thinking of just going with all clover or alfalfa getting a soil test done soon just to give me an idea were the ph is farm has not been worked in at least 30 years any recommendations
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors Год назад
That’s kind of hard to answer without being on the property. But if clover is a good fit for your lane it’s a power house. I love clover. But not all properties need clover. Clover goes dormant in the winter so you won’t have any fall food. You’ll want to consider wheats and rye ans maybe even brassicas.

It’s a grass and weed killer herbicide combined in one. It works wonders instead of having to buy multiple herbicides
