Hi, There is an old saying in Tamil language that "Murungaya vechavan verum kaiyya povan" ( The one plants moringa tree will go empty handed) and it actually means that, The one who plants the moringa tree in their house and then consumes the leaves cooked, Drumstick cooked, will never needs a walking stick. He / she can walk freely with no support in his/ her later ages. And it is. The power of moringa Tree.
lol, you guys are very dedicated to Moringa. I think a little over the top. I just toss them in regular soil in my backyard and they grow like mad. These trees are amazing. They grow fast and don't ask for anything. They give and give. They don't even demand a lot of water. I pass on the kissing, blessing and expensive soil. Moringa is God's gift. Regular garden soil works!
Think about the negativity amongst humans for a moment. Now think about her kind and loving intent towards her fellow human beings, in hugging and kissing the seed. Now think about your mockery of that. Rinse and repeat if you can’t see the regrettable comment you’ve left.
Seeds have sprouted and provided us with nourishment for tena of thousands of years, even without love and kisses. Rinse and repeat if you want but the stupidity still remains.
I have one 20- 30ft Moringa tree. Our soil is dreadful,we planted it over a sink hole, that also receives the grey water from our laundry sink. And boy, that tree is thriving. We have to cut it down to 10 ft every six months. It also attracts humming birds. On north coast of Jamaica.
We are in Quartzsite, Arizona. We only have a few 30 degree nights in the winter, however our summers can get up to 115. I have 4 trees started and they are doing well, one is being picked on by either birds or bunnies, but still growing. I just ordered another 3 oz. of seed, and pots, but thank you for the tips on adding something to lighten the soil. I won't forget the blessing either! I have seen how successful Moringa are being grown in Phoenix and Tempe, I had a feeling they would do well here. I am looking forward to my own microclimate, created by the Moringa and the native Palo Verde. My lavender will love the additional shade.
ty for the bit on keeping them in the same pot. watched plenty of videos amd i never heard that. i originally planned my few in some shallow pots and had to move them within a month. i transplanted 7 in 5 gallon 12 inch pots and I've had a few die. one is a fighting, one is ok, but the rest seem stunted for over a month. really wish i knew they were so prone to transplant shock beforehand.
Thank you for sharing . You’re very thorough and informative. Just repotted my moringa plants before tuning into this RU-vid . I couldn’t have waited until a bit warmer .
Thank you!! I could not figure out why my newly transplanted seedlings weren't doing well.. I watched so many videos and yours is the only one that mentioned the seedling root being fragile
Roosevelt Battad YES I eventually realized that too! Whenever I skipped watering they seemed to perk right up.. out of the 6 seedlings, 2 have survived and are now thriving thank goodness
I’m located in Arizona. My Moringa thrive here in my climate. Water at least twice a day. Once at sun rise and once at sun set. My sun set watering is heavy to get the maximum soil penetration. Great video that was very detailed and informative. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge.
Moringa is a very forgiving tree. The 3 most common mistakes, soil that doesn't drain well, over watering and over feeding. You'll be surprised how well this tree responds to neglect. ;-)
I am a bit surprised at the full enriched soil with compost. I always heard Moringas are great because they can thrive in sandy low nutritional soil. One of the reasons they are used to reforest deserted regions. Next to the many health benefits of course.
Yes, Moringa can grow in poor stress full conditions, that is part of the magic of the plant. But I have been using Moringa Leaves, leave powder, Seeds, Seed Powder, and extracts, as well as the roots for years. Having consumed Mariko's Maringa recently I can state I have never had any so powerful, and obvious in its effects.
Wow thank you so so much I’m very glad that I found this video before I tried planting my seeds that I just got in the mail. I live in Orange County’s so hopefully I have a shot at this but I’m glad I didn’t attempt and fail that would’ve made me sad I’ll wait until it’s time to plant them thank you for so much information I really appreciate it
Getting ready to plant my Moringa seeds. I germinated them in wet paper towels and they rooted perfectly. Thank you for your video, it was super helpful! I also really loved the step where you blessed the seed for whoever will be receiving or consuming the plant. ❤️
Hi Mariko, Has anyone ever experimented by braiding together a stand of seedlings for stability? I'm doing this now in early 2022 because of strong winds/hurricanes? Any thoughts or comments? Thanks You from SW Florida
Thank you for the video . I have three plants my uncle planted 3 months ago and one of them is dormant as you mentioned . I added some nutrient soil and mixed it up . The other two look more vibrant . I’m not sure how to revive the dormant one . The leaves got soggy and droopy but still green . I’m really worried . If you can direct me I would be blessed . Thanks .
I seen your other video on cuttings.. I notice some didnt make it.. but have you tried a cutting globe you can root right on the plant then after the roots grow you cut it off and plant.. :)
Love your siteI started a seed per your instructions and I see the roots coming out the bottom , same size as your pot, should I leave it in there or put it in the ground now ?
How often do I water a newly planted Moringa in 110 degree weather. I planted it a little over a month ago and it is about 3 feet tall but I am in Arizona and it is going to be way over 100 for a while.
You wrote this 6 months ago. Tell us what you did! Did you give it any extra shade for those super hot days? I'm betting it would survive without the shade, but I'm also thinking it might do a lot better than JUST survive with a bit of late afternoon shade? Yes? Or No?
I live in the southern Mojave desert just north of you at 34 north latitude. I hear you about freezing, and we do get just below freezing temps sometimes. But can the plant also take our extreme 120oF (50oC) summer temps too?
Do you have a recommendation on mulch for Moringa? My smaller pots dry out pretty fast and I don't want to water everyday since Moringa doesn't like to be over watered. I thought a mulch could help with evaporation.
Entered 05/18/2023 ... I soaked my Moringa seeds over night and then planted them directly in potting mix (seeds are only 1 year old) Now it has been 15-20 days and nothing, no sprouted seeds. I did not over water the soil. The soil did dry out completely once or twice. What should i do. Can I carefully dig up the seed, and if not showing any signs of sprouting, pierce open the shell casings and replant? Please advise
Thanks for your video sharing and I would like to growing in Globe Arizona. Could you please send me some seeds to me? I’m appreciate it and thanks again!
I was given a small plant. It’s in a regular , tiny , starter pot that you get from the nurseries. It’s doubled in size. I should keep it in this tiny pot for a year?
Probably not. Just be super careful when transplanting, and try not to shock it. Now I'm seeing you wrote this 8 months ago. How did the transplanting go? How is your tree now?
@@gardengatesopen Yes it did amazing !!! I planted it straight in the ground. it took off wonderfully! we moved , so now I have two more starters that I need to plant, but I’m waiting to after the winter.
Seeds can take a long time but it worth it make sure soil is loamy airly. Not. Wet. Happyfrog soil works awesome or foxform. I only use high quality soil. So yes root r very fragile so dont over water to much but they can and luv heat new mexico
Thank you for the great video ! I also ask for a blessing for everything I grow. =) I know I need a touch from the Lord with me gardening. lLOL I for sure need some of those 2 X 9 inch pots. =)
When the leaves are drooping and turning yellow, it is a sign that you are over watering it. Cut down on the water. Moringa likes dry to moist but not wet.
Great stuff. I have moringa dwarf seeds I want to plant. I'm in MD. We also have a short summer season for growing. Can I start my seedlings in the inside? Will they take root in a warm house outside of the sun? Please advise. warm thanks
You can start them indoors and maybe get a grow light. When the temperature gets warmer, you can put them outside. I would plant them in a pot so you can move them back indoors or in a patio during winter months.
Mycorrhizal fungi provides a transport network to feed the roots. Home Depot sells it. The soil bacteria breaks the carbon based plant matter down into bio-available material and the fungi transports these nutrients to the roots. In exchange, the plant provides carbon and sugars to the fungi. The perlite that is mixed with the compost/castings is of volcanic origin and is very porous, similar to the surface of activated carbon. These nooks and crannies provide the habitat for the fungi and bacteria to develop. It is said that in reality, you're feeding the soil and the soil feeds the plant.
@@captainnemonadie6541 Thank you for sharing your knowledge...ESPECIALLY for the extra info on feeding the soil, which then feeds the plant. Life is such a beautiful experience as you uncover more and more of it wonder. Peace to all.
HI THERE,IM PLANNING OF PLANTING ONE OR TWO IN THE MIDDLE OF MY SMALL BACKYARD FOR SHADES,FOR LOOKS AND FOR FOOD.IS IT BETTER TO PLANT TWO AND HOW FAR APART SHOULD IT BE? OR SHOULD I JUST PLANT ONE?THANK YOU
Yes but if you damage the inner seed it is unlikely to sprout. The outer shell protects against stomach acid when consumed and naturally once the shell is worn down enough sprouts. You can also soak the seeds in hot water and plant. What i did was file the seed enough for water to get into the seed area and plant.
My moringa plant is having a hard time! Recently i moved house and she wasnt too happy just before the move, & Is definitely not happy now! Her leaves are yellow and pale, and some of the new lesves are Green, but the old ones turn yellow and wilt away? how i make her happy again?? I planted It from seed and Its now about 15/20cm in height
It's best to start the seed in grow on the last frost date for your area, February or March. Then before the first frost for your area, October,November, or December, you can cut it down to a out two feet and then mulch it really well up to 12 inches to keep the roots system safe from frost/freezing. Some people don't cut the top off and trim it, they will just mulch it heavily for the winter. If it survives the first winter, it will bee good to go. Just mulch the base really well every winter. Hope this helps.
Trinhz Photography thanks for the info. I ordered my seeds and they are arriving today. Am planning to start the seeds today hope it survives the heat and seedlings 🌱 show up
Why is your Moringa tree so close to the ground? My Moringa tree has grown so tall that I can hardly get to pick the leaves. Is there something I need to do for it not to grow so tall? Thanks for the videos.
Not sure if you’ll see this (7 months later), but you want to top it or cut the top off when it’s grown to 2-3’ high. This will cause two new branches which will make it more of a bush shape than a tall pencil like tree. But it produces many more leaves and you can reach them without a ladder! If you want lots of leaves , keep cutting each branch off every 2’ feet. In some conditions, you can stick the branch top right into the ground and it may root with just a little water til it establishes. In AZ , I want it for a supplemental food source and a tall, wide at the top SHADE tree. So my goal is to attempt to get a (chicken) drumstick tree shape. Once the top is 20-25’ tall, I stop pruning. ***You can still prune or top off your tree! They grow very fast.
@@mauryhill2552 how's that working for you? Did it die back during the Winter last year? As in, did it die back to the ground, killing all the above ground growth, and in Spring did it have to start over? Or did the branches just go dormant, and then in Spring, continue where it left off?
With out a doubt! New Mexico goes from high, cold altitudes to hot, dry dessert, depending where your at. Put it in a large, deep pot where you can put it inside in the winter months or cut it back to about 3' tall and cover it well so it doesn't freeze the root.

i bought what was supposed to be Moringa Oleifera seed, but my plants have totally different leaves than yours. Do you grow Moringa Ruspoliana? Going through photos of the different species that is what my plant leaves look like. Do you know if it can be used the SAME as the regular Moringa Olieifera.? Anyone that knows about this species, I would love to hear from you.

HI I'VE BOUGHT SOME SEEDS OF AFRICAN MORINGA AND ONE OTHER MORINGA VARIETY. UNFORTUNATLY THESE DIDNT GERMINATE, DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS OTHER MORINGA VARIETIES?
I've heard about this moringa for a very long time and I had no idea it's the lowly malungay back home which grows EVERYWHERE. It grew in our backyard and it's impossible to kill even without watering. We put it in almost everything, any dish we cook. On Tinolang manok with green papaya and steamed rice for lunch. And now it's a superfood. Smh.
This chick is sooo mis leading ! Plant your seed and water it ! Moringa is a verrrry blessed plant and will grow in ANYTHING. I've successfully grew many in the sand ! You don't have to have this or that and 50 different soils, imported, and with sparkles and magical powers ! 😅🤣 I bet this chick has to have maaaany gadgets just to make a pancake or she has to go to cracker barrel 😲🤣😅😒
