I just got a bare root raspberry from a nursery, the same day the nursery got them. Since the soil isn't thawed here yet, I'm starting it in a container. Some of the roots had suckers fairly remote from the main plant. I had to trim the roots a little to get them into the container. I cut the trimmings into small pieces, some with suckers starting to leaf and some without. This isn't my first rodeo with raspberries, so I feel confident that I will get at least 5 extra plants from the trimmings and possibly as many as thirty.
The reason they use pete moss is because raspberries like acidity. Also you want to soak the roots in water with peroxide. 3 cups water to 1 tbs 3% hydrogen peroxide. The extra oxygen molecule makes all the difference, plus it kills bacteria.
I seen on RU-vid lowes was selling a 3 in 1 grafted citrus tree for $160 but my store didn’t have it and they told me I could special order it. Got a passion fruit while I was there.
"Jan 23rd With in Los Angeles our chance of frost ends in the next week or two." On the behalf of those of us here in zone 7a(Mountain) I respectfully and humorously retort eat our shorts X-D Here we are looking at some where between April 15th and May 15th but even then there is always the possibility that we could still win the snow lottery lol.
Awesome video. Those roots look healthy, I've purchased raspberry roots before and none survived. On the other hand my blackberry is doing great. Not raspberry related, but how do you keep your bunnies from eating your trees?
how perfect coming across you site and I have two of the raspberries in your title ready to plant...who knew that raspberries were so prolific and had such a wide spread ,the favorite of mine as a child growing up in Bavaria and picking these wild as we do here in the South with Black berries......thank you for sharing this post that gives me hope...question are these summer and fall bearing? or just summer?
How do I know when they bloom to see if the different varieties will bloom at the same time? It won't work if some of the bushels are in a 2.5qt pot and some are bare root, that means they won't flower at the same time, right?
When should I just give it up that it's dead? I bought some stems on ckearance from home depot figured i could revive them i ha a few outside and some inside in small pots.
I like red raspberries turned into a jam or jelly with hot peppers. Or ever frozen eaten fresh out of the freezer. Of course fresh off the plant is best
