You're helping me so much! My daddy taught ukulele, guitar, banjo and more. I didn't learn while he was alive and now I'm trying to learn on the instruments I inherited from him. Thank you for doing this! You're helping me keep his legacy alive! 😭❤

You'd think you should be able to learn a new skill from just about anybody, but April proves that you need that special talent for connecting with newbies in a way that gives them quicker success and encouragement to keep trying. Great teacher!

As you're probably aware, I'm an avid fan of these tutorials because they're well presented, clear and not too long! This one good because Quentin joined you for the play along. I was talking to my cousin this evening who's a well respected blues, slide guitarist and he said he's started playing slide on baritone ukulele! More blues please.

Just found your site. Love your tutorials. They are informative, clear, and well paced, not too fast, not too slow. This last 24 hours, I can't stop playing D7, G7, and A7! You got me playing a bluesy sound that makes me almost feel like a musician (which I am not). But I'm having fun. Keep up the great work.

I guessing Quentin was thinking about big trucks not little ones. Loved the linked video. I did watch it before doing the 12 bars with you. That was lots of fun and very helpful! So loved having the Next chord coming displayed on the screen. Totally helped in the beginning to have them so I was prepared to make the switch. Liked the different chord options and having a backing track to play along with. Switching between d and d7 is good practice and sounds better too. One of the best lessons. Excellent. Almost forgot to mention the great scale. I will try it with the backing track!

Superb Video Abigail, Its always great to see the Blues on a Ukulele, especially your discussions on the importance of scales (More please):) As a retired Lighting Cameraman, you might want to consider raising your Soft-light, as well as moving it to one side 45degrees. This will give you a more flattering Key/Modelling light, also always difficult when your husband wears glasses showing its reflection. It will also take away some of the gloss on your face. Just a thought. :)

Thanks for watching the video! I’ve made a conscious choice to focus on content quality over aesthetics for a number of reasons, but I certainly hope someday I have the freedom to bring the aesthetic quality up to match the content quality of my videos. Thanks again for watching!

Abigail Flowers Always a pleasure to give professional advice to others. I simply felt as you were sponsored, the commercial aspect was also worth considering. It’s a very competitive market these days. Great series of Tutorials nevertheless. 💐💐

I hear you, but the commercial aspect has been considered. I have made informed choices about where to spend my time and money right now. As you said, there are many great ukulele channels out there and I’m happy to recommend them if my husband’s or my appearance is distracting to anyone.

There are 4 Uk's, 3 are tuned the same, Why is the Baritone different ,?? What is The Baritone Tuning, ?? Why not GCEA.??
@jkydesign132
@jkydesign132 3 года назад
Because you can achieve lower notes on a longer scale instrument. All the chord shapes are the same, they are just a different notes. I also have my Tenor Guitar tuned to DGBE. It's great, try it!

Hi, abigail. I just bought a baritone ukulele. It's tuned for d, g, b, e. I just came across your RU-vid channel and I am very excited. I didn't just buy the ukulele, but I am really a beginner. I know you have a channel here, but do you have a website or somewhere else where I could get more teachings? Thank you again and I hope you have a great day!

Thank you so much for watching, and welcome to the wonderful world of baritone! For most of the last year, I’ve been focused on my Patreon-it’s a subscription site where I put out weekly lessons for baritone. I also have some lesson PDFs on my website, abigailflowersmusic.com/pdf-downloads. I’m hoping to get back to RU-vid tutorials soon, though!

@@AbigailFlowersMusic I'll have to check that out. Where is the patreon link?
@AbigailFlowersMusic
@AbigailFlowersMusic 2 года назад
It’s at www.patreon.com/abigailflowersmusic! There’s a pretty wide variety of content, so it’s not all geared toward beginners, but I like to think it’s a pretty fair distribution of skill levels. Also important to note that all content on Patreon has to be copyright free. There are still awesome songs in the public domain, but I just want folks to be aware going into it!

The A7 chord shown is EGC#E .... there is no A? Shouldn't this be 1357b or AC#EG so EAC#G.
@AbigailFlowersMusic
@AbigailFlowersMusic 3 года назад
Awesome catch! That’s why the A7 (frets 2020) always gives me indigestion. *Technically*, like you said, it’s just EGC#E, which is a C# diminished triad. The problem is that for a full A7 (again, as you pointed out), we need 135 and b7, which is A, C#, E, and G. That would be frets 2223, which is really challenging for some people. I shy away from that shape in some tutorials because I think of it as a barre chord, which some people really don’t want to do. BUT 1) if you’re comfortable with barre chords, that’s certainly the way I would play A7, and 2) if you’re not comfortable with barre chords, you can still play it with 3 or 4 fingers to make it easier! So you’re absolutely right, but I sometimes use that less correct version of A7 because it’s more common and approachable for some people.
@alanmcpherson1122
@alanmcpherson1122 3 года назад
@@AbigailFlowersMusic Thanks for replying. I understand the reasoning and it makes a lot of sense. I'm using 4 fingers to do the A7.

With a new Bari (just bought) tuned to GCEA , on Bari it's an Octave lower than my Tenor, I'm confused now, if I need to remember 2 different chord shapes/or scales, it's a lot harder for a Newby like Me.!! ...Your help is needed A F. Geoff
@AbigailFlowersMusic
@AbigailFlowersMusic 3 года назад
Hey there! So I tune my baritone (and I think this is common) to DGBE. In that case, the chord shapes and things would match this video! If you tune it to GCEA like a tenor or concert uke, it won’t match this video. If you tune to the standard DGBE for baritone, you will sort of have to learn new shapes but it’s actually not as hard as it sounds! Let me know if I misunderstood your question. Welcome to the bari club!!

Hello Abigail. You made me confused You show some chords, but you played others diferent. Why?
@AbigailFlowersMusic
@AbigailFlowersMusic 3 года назад
Hi! Thanks so much for watching. I’m not certain which chords you’re referring to, but there is one point in the “play along” section where I do play a different voicing of the same chords. That was just for a fun change of range, but you can still use the basic chord shapes to play along. Hope that’s helpful!
