I don't have a coach or someone to teach me. I progressed from a beginner play to intermediate only by watching your videos. Thanks a lot. This video was really helpful for me. Thanks again.
This is the most comprehensive video on basic backhand techniques I've come across. As a young player a long time ago I had managed to avoid playing backhands. 🙂 But now, a much older returning player and a lot less mobile, I'm having to learn backhands. So a big thank you to you both. 👏
This channel is a must to improve your skills. This was the most confusing and difficult movement for me and many others. The grip and footwork is crucial to execute this movement. Great explanation you guys!
I love this video. I have been playing badminton since I was 14 (2011) and now I'm 25 in 2022. My badminton game has been slightly lagging as I struggle badly at single since I don't know how to properly hit a backhand shot. This video showed me the technical skill and action needed for the right shots and after practicing for 2 months, my backhand play has improved significantly. Thank you guys so much for the helpful tutorial !!!! Keep up the good work and have fun !!!!
Badminton insight is doing a great job at teaching beginners like me, and I can say that these techniques really help. I had an intramural game yesterday and it seems to work really well if you remember a few things and implement them. Great job!
Absolutely brilliant! Just came across your vids and I can’t get enough. Thanks a lot. I wish you guys nothing but success. The videos are clear and entertaining. I’m going to be trying some of your advice. Hopefully, I can play at your court someday.
Thank you thank you thank you! I have been waiting for this as I haven’t managed to learn from other RU-vid videos! This is a complete step-by-step guide for sure! I will try to add it all and develop the ‘perfect backhand’ as you say 😜😜
I appreciate the tip you give on the backhand I have finally figure out why my backhand clear shot wasn’t reacting from one back line to the other until now I used to only clear my backhand shot only 2/3 off the way leaving my opponent the perfect opportunity for a smash
Huhu the cam. wholesome I'm currently practicing badminton for our tournament this weekend thanks a lot because of your vids I learn how to smash, backhand smash
I have been playing badminton now for just over 2 years. Because In my club we play almost exclusively doubles I have avoided playing any rear court backhand shots. The good that came from that is I tend to play more aggressive overhead shots on my backhand side by getting to the shuttle earlier using a forehand stroke. But now I’ve handicap myself, pretty much In my doubles games if I’m late to a backhand side shot, it’s a winning point for the other team because my backhand clears are pathetic and my only chance is to play a tight slow backhand drop which also is quite pathetic. I’m finally starting to work on a better backhand shot to get my team out of trouble when I’m hitting late on the backhand side. Thank you for the great tutorial. I appreciate all the hard work on your videos 😃
Hopefully it's a good thing - you're so quick onto your round-the-head side that you didn't need a backhand! 😜 But thank you! Hopefully you can start to develop your backhand from our video!
Many thanks! This has provided me a very effective tutorial (not just this backhand topic, but anything else). I don't join a club and just play for hobby with mates, so times we have are spent by only sparring/match without programmed training to enhance basic skills. Tutorial vids like these are very helpful for us. 💯
A very detailed one. So much love for this. Now I know where my errors are. The gripping and the footwork, very superb. New word for me now "chassee". 😁😁😁 Isn't "chassee" same as "side step"? I google it, and it's a french word. I will check all my errors for now and I'm going to practice this on repetition. Thank you so much JenGreg. It did answer all my queries a few months ago. 😊😊😊😊🥰🥰🥰🥰
We're very happy to help! Thank you for your comment 😃Yes chassee is essentially the same as a side step! Good luck practicing it, let us know how you get on 😊
Good lesson. Thanks. As many recreational players do, I have had a long gap in my life before picking up a badminton racket again and I had zero clue about backhand clear and drop. My assessment is although video lessons are great, these shots are most difficult to perfect unless you try a lot and miss a lot. My basic take, stay relaxed and hit these shots as much as possible. Try backhand clear if you are the back player in friendly doubles and the shuttle gets lifted on the deep backhand corners.
Very correct assessment! We have tried to provide as much advice and information as possible, but you have to put these tips into practice (and then keep practicing) to keep improving!
Great advice for playing all of the backhand shots. I didn't realise how similar the preparation should be but it makes lots of sense! I will be checking out your website for sure 😀
Thanks! Very helpful, as this is something I always want to learn. Also, I am left handed and this fits me! The foot work breakdown is very clear. Keep it up.
Thank you very much! We found there aren't any videos out there on RU-vid by left handers - as we are both lefty's we're very happy to provide some left handed content! 😆
Thank you very much! Will will do in the future for sure, have you checked out our doubles multifeed videos? They are great for this, as is the circuit we showed way back in our day in lockdown video! But yes more to come, hope you keep enjoying the videos! An exciting one to come tomorrow 😀
Hi... You guys are doing wonderful job..... I really appreciate you for your efforts...... You Truly deserve more appreciation for your work...... Keep it up for the betterment of Badminton.
Excellent explanations, really clear breakdowns of the shots. Just one question: who's idea was it to use boxing gloves? Absolutely brilliant, made me laugh.
Thanks Dave! It was my (Jen's) idea, but Greg executed it very well. We're always trying to think of different (sometimes non-badminton) ways to explain things, and of course make the video fun!
Hi guys! I am Kris from the Philippines, thank you guys for this badminton tutorial, it helps me alot although I do not have much to practice, however the dynamics of this tutorial makes my techniques more effective, thank you guys and more power!
Thank you guys.. My game has improve by just wacthing your video and with some practice of course.. Hehe.. I will invite more friend to support your channel😊
In the Footwork section, you say to land the last step at the same time you hit the shuttle. But in the examples by yourself and the other pro's you land the step right before hitting. This makes much more sense to me, as you can use this straightening motion from your step through your body and to propel your elbow upwards and begin the backhand stoke with way easier power.
This is very very informative channel on RU-vid I have came across recently on Badminton. Thank you both of you for making wonderful content. This backhand tutorial is definitely helpful. But can you please make a video on how to take shuttle which is there on backhand side by forehand? The footwork and positioning?
After a long standing shoulder injury, my backhand has really suffered. This video has been absolutely fantastic in understanding the mechanics of the backhand shot, but can you also comment on muscle strength and whether or not the shoulder muscles should actually be involved at all vs leveraging more of the wrist and fore-arm muscles? Maybe I have been getting it very wrong all these years.
Excited to know that you are doing the backhand reverse slice next. I was just wondering if it's possible to execute a cross version of that shot - a cross reverse slice, just like the forehand cross reverse slice that many players often do...
Should be a good one! 🤞🏼 No it's not possible - the point of the backhand reverse slice is to look like you're hitting it cross, so it wouldn't be very deceptive to actually hit it cross! The FH cross reverse slice (from your round the head corner) is to make it look like you're hitting it straight, and then you slice across the shuttle to make it go cross. Hope that helps!
Guys, you are seriously cute and very watchable :) And I really appreciate that you take time and energy to compose your videos at different locations and with preps. Shows intention.
I'm trying to execute a cross court drop for quite a while your video definitely help can't wait for tomorrow to give them a try 😃😃 BTW what is the best rackets for intermediate player
Your welcome! Hopefully it goes well, let us know! This depends on your playing style and also your budget! Have you seen our video on how to choose a racket? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F_-0pHH8mSI.html
I love your videos alot.. please can u make video for how to settle in new court during tournaments... I really struggle in developing to new environment.
Thanks a lot - and thanks for the comments! We will add this to the list. The more different places you play the more you will get used to it! It's also really important to try to have a good practice before going into a match!
