I found this very insightful for using the talking drum! I just bought my drum recently and was trying to figure out how to play rhythms for it. I play bass, harmonica, and vocals for a folk punk band and have been exploring new instruments. After learning some of the basics I really think this has a great fit into any acoustic band. It has a very raw feel to it. Thank you for your videos :) They are most helpful!

EPIC RIDDIM! when the tempo was increased it became a powerful word. Please preserve this beautiful tradition brother. In fact, Africans should be taught this as a requirement. Maybe even build upon the old tradition of communication. Recite poems through drum

Amazing video. There seems to be missing a very important aspect of the sound, which is variance in the Frequencies of each syllables - which are actually different each time he played each syllable.

Also, there’s an element of “BEND NOTE” which wasn’t discussed. So, sir, you basically played the tones according to your accent. Which is good but it’s only subject to your personal accent and intonations. Someone else would say the same words with different accent and intonations. Speaking of frequencies, well, human frequency range is between 20Hz to 20,000Hz. Talking drum, being a membranous percussive instrument has various harmonics and very rich overtones which usually covers the full frequency range when played, especially when the sound is captured with a microphone that’s has got a wide frequency range as well.
