This is one of the reasons why I love Mr.Robert Glasper!!! A longtime ago when he was fairly a new artist breaking a drummer told me that I write like him!!! I said who was he? The next day he gave me a CD I popped it in and was like we do sound a like he just knows how to solo and go left over his chords!!! More of these please 🙏🏾🔥🔥🔥
My broooo you are one of the most versatile players in the ATL... the fact that you can do the church stuff, jazz stuff, rnb, neo soul...etc... then able to do cover tunes exactly like the records is why you're at the top!!! Love you my bro!!!
Woooow!!! This Christmas is gonna be so jazzy because of you. Thanks, alot KC. Just a question though... The bass line (root) of the first chord will be the 5th degree, right?
Yessir Christmas is around the corner!!! And yes, it is a rootless chord voicing with the 5th as the lowest note… but still viewed as the 1 chord…. Much love my bro!!! ☀️💚
Yooo Allan wussup my bro!!! Yes he's a genius - it was super tough to pull this skit off, only because I had to think how he'd think in a "Mary Had A Little Lamb" situation!!! I agree the min9/11 is quite fitting for this vibe... Love you my bro!!!
Thanks!!! if possible, could you play the tones of the chords one after another.I am blind and your Visuals don’t help me. Really appreciate the videos, I bought the play like you series.
AWESOME breakdown and explanation as always but that synth in the background every time you took the minor chord to the major is EXACTLY what we hear in our heads, no matter the venue or platform 😂🤣😂🤣😂🌊🌊🔥🔥🙌🏽😩
Yeah, man! Robert Glasper had a musically rich upbringing, having to tag along with his vocalist mom to the jazz clubs as a toddler. This style right here is just a fraction of his genius, as he demonstrates his mastery of the jazz idiom in a great interview Marian McPartland did with him on NPR. KC is the only musician I know that can turn a Nursery Rhyme into a Dopamine Chime! He takes the simple and adds “a side” of complexity. Like at 2:21 where he sings 1 syllable of amazing and follows it up with 3 chords (that actually sounds like they are saying amazing!!!) then he moves to the next syllable following it up with 6 chords (that sound like they are saying amazing twice!!!) I’m sure that was all coincidental but that’s “amazing”! This guy “uses the simple to confound the wise”! 😂😂😂
Spectacular as always. The only thing I can say is that we have an extraordinary mentor, and that we should take full advantage of your teachings. Many blessings for your honesty and dedication and passion for sharing your knowledge. All the best
wowowowowow Jesus!! Man, you don't know how much this comment means to me!!! I'm forever grateful for the love and support and the encouragement in your comment is much appreciated!!! Much love and many blessing back to you and your family my bro!!!
Man you be playing through these chords like it’s nothing lol. Like you’ll just play through something real quick as an example and I’m just like 😮”nah, you not just gone run pass that like it wasn’t one of the most amazing progressions I’ve ever heard in my life” 😂 you cold bruh 💯
Kev Man you're a beast brother. If all possible I need those finger exercises from you. Man the spread of those chords from you fingering are ridiculous. Please share finger stretches . Thank You Kev
Hahahaha!!!! Yesssssir my bro!!! Figured I’d start things out on the right foot and with the perfect sound blend for this style of playing!!! Grateful for you my bro!!!! Much love ☀️💚
Hey Brian!!! Trust me bro, this LOOKS 👀 more difficult than it really is! Once you lock in your numbers and combinations, it’ll all make sense!!! Much love my bro! ☀️💚
Thanks man!!! I created the progression then noticed the top notes were Mary Had A!!!! 😂😂😂😂 Then I just ahead and proceed together a complete song!!! Much love ☀️💚
Yessir... the bells give it that bright airy vibe...like in Christmas tunes... Gospel producers use it in their production work all the time too... Yessir the min9 (1) was clutch for this vibe... I appreciate you bro!
Mannnn Jules!!!! It’s so great to hear from you brother! I admire your level of discipline and pursuit of excellence!!! Much love my bro & thanks again!!! ☀️💚
Hahahahaha!!! Thanks so much man… Yeah I tried to re-enact what he probably would’ve come up with… but you never know… I really had a lot of fun putting this together!!! Much love my bro!!! ☀️💚
@prettysimplemusic Thank You for these lessons! I discovered you thru your comments regarding CoC Acapella Singing at Humble Is Da Way!!! Love from Louisiana 💕
KC, Awesome lesson. I love learning new expressions or new ways to reharmonize melodies. I makes me feel good when I play them and also floor those who spectate. Thank you for sharing.
Hey Cedric!!! Mannn it's great to hear that this vid helped to expand your current reharmonization journey... I'm blessed to have you along this journey with me my bro!!! Much love
Hi KC! I've been viewing your contents for awhile now. I'd like to purchase some bundles you have! But not sure which ones to get! I'm an ex-classical pianist who studied music for varsity but now a pastor writing songs for the church. Though I write songs on various chords, I want to start adding some of those neo-soul stuffs! AND play them improvised as good as you! Please let me know which bundles to get and I will get 'em!
Hey there Pastor Kwon!!! I really appreciate the love and support... Most Neo Soul chords are derived from gospel chords, so I agree using them in a gospel setting is ultimately sending them BACK to the original place they were created and used... We have an All-Access plan that's new - it'll allow you to go through and learn from our entire library...
Thanks Samuel... What's crazy is I've had that "Warm Butter" sound all of this time, and found a way to use it as a pad... It's different... Much love bro ☀️💚
Hi Daniel!!! Yessir he’s super dope! I’m truly blessed to have a grasp of the concepts and mindset that he also embraces… And MORE blessed to be able to SHARE with you guys! Much love ☀️💚
