I can never remember how building structures in a specific zone is handled if the automa doesn’t have the machinery to do so. Does he build a structure in a different zone where he can afford it or skip the action entirely?

Pretty sure it builds in a different zone that it can afford, following the other criteria that it's using of course.

@@RTFM The rulebook lists “available machinery” as a requirement for the action though, not as a tiebreaker. Moreover in the tiebreakers section, a yellow box states that additional restriction on the structure he builds (for example the zone) applies to every tiebreaker. Since having the required machinery is a condition to take the construct action, I’ve always skipped the action it if wanted to build, say, on the hills but the automatic hadn’t enough machinery for that zone.

@@Feldingor Yeah, that's a good point. Honestly, it still feels a little ambiguous to me, but your interpretation definitely makes sense. For something like this, I say just pick whichever feels right to you and stick with it.

@@RTFM that’s why I hate rulebooks from Italian designers: they don’t seem to recognise ambiguous rules 🤷‍♂️ and people have to improvise
