Don't feel bad, Olivia. The first reference I heard for Brian Kibler was when Kyle Hill was playing in place of him on Tolarian Community College's shuffle up and play. Everyone kept making Brian Kibler jokes in that episode and I kept thinking: Who the heck is Brian Kibler? Commander at Home has helped answer that question. ;)

6 minutes in. This is so great that you brought on someone who does not play. I imagine there are lots of people who watch Magic content, but have no idea where to start whe it comes to playing. This is great to see a pod be helpful and walk someone through, step by step. Well done!

I love how encouraging and welcoming you two are to the game, new people and well naturally new people joining the game xP But like Tim (Darkness) said in some way at least twice "I like you more and more", Olivia please take it to heart that you're a true gem and amazing person that brings us all so much joy! I don't mean to overshadow Eilidh in ANY way by that! Just seeing her smile sparks up all the light's in the room too with her silly adorable little laugh that makes it sound like she's dancing for the chaos of combat in magic at every chance she gets! xD I know I don't comment on every episode but know that I (among literal thousands of others) tune in every single week (and I guess twice this week xP) to see you two be silly magic players talking about whatever's happening and so expertly letting your guests be themselves (from what I can tell at least ^.^) and you all just simply enjoy an amazing game while bringing the classic "chilling with friends and making silly stories from even silly'er gameplay!

The lathril precon was my 1st deck, whenever I want to try and get people into commander I have them play that deck, it works every time

My FAVORITE video so far. I enjoy seeing others learn to play, and players helping others to learn. (I'll comment on that again later.) Now, I know Olivia was trying to go a little easy. Yet, I still want to take an opportunity to point out some additional value from Olivia's and Tim's decks for those players that may be new that read this comment (and, because, to keep within the spirit of Olivia's comment at the end of the video; I comment on this at the end of my comment). My only intention is to share a little of my knowledge (and what I observed) to help others. This isn't intended to take away form that essence of this video AT ALL, which is that I believe it is intended to teach new players how to play and everyone just have fun playing together. 28:06 I love the Lathril deck. I bought it a long time ago and modified it (slightly though; because, as Olivia mentions, it's REALLY good synergy and value). Sequencing. This is the lesson. With the board state the way it was, Olivia should have attacked with Lathril first, giving herself 2 more elves. Since she had the mana, play Harald King Of Skemfar. Then play Elvish Promenade so that, instead of 2 more elves with Promenade, she would have had 5 on board, and then get a total 10 elves on her board. Elvish Archdruid would have then tapped for 10 green mana instead of 5. She would have played Voice Of Many for 4, had 6 floating. If she drew Elven Ambush, she could have played it that turn, doubling 10 to 20, and given herself 19 going into next turn (because Lathril went back to the Command Zone) instead of having 7 and doubling to 14 on the next turn. Last, Olivia did the tokens wrong. If she had 4 tokens, and added a 1/1 for each elf she controls, she adds 7 tokens. 7 plus 4 equals 11 tokens, not 14 tokens when she puts the dice on the token card. Oops! 😀 40:37 1:07:41 After that, I can't math again. My brain hurts. Combat tricks. Tim may have stayed alive. I don't know what he had in his hand, but, let's assume he had at least 1 Eldrazi. He may have stayed alive. Attacks were declared, he declares his blocks. While STILL in the declare blocks phase (if you can't do this, please correct me), he taps 2 Eldrazi to put an Eldrazi into play with Cryptic Gateway. He now has one more creature he can declare as a blocker. If two of Olivia's elves were going to kill him, he now blocks one more, and, assuming the enchantment doesn't kill him, he had a chance for Ben to keep him alive and Tim could have had one more turn. 1:18:53 to the end of the video. I end my comment with that (and this). No one can top Olivia's comment at this part of the video EVER. "As long as you had fun..." "If we were playing for real.... you get to learn the strategy." 1:20:06 And Eilidh.... me as well.

Met brian at magic con vegas recently. Super nice guy. He was playing commander and still took the time to talk to us.

I feel incredibly called out by the “some people are terminally online and hate when you do things different to them” when he went to cast his first spell on four… Says the terminally online person who physically recoiled as he went to push his lands to the top of his mat…tapped left…in different ways… Lol, it’s all memes. I’m glad he is having so much fun on his first time, and I’m only 14 minutes in. Love the content, keep going^~^

This is one of the things where making sure you move through phases is really important. Magic isn't that hard or confusing when you run each step. But, boy is it crazy when you're loose with what's happening and shortcutting phases and priorities.

See this is why, despite all the hate (which i totally understand) i cant help but love the Universes Beyond. Because beaides my dad and brother i dont have any friends that play magic. Then last night my friend found the face commanders for the Fallout precons and asked me if they were real. I told him they were and he said that when they come out he wants me to teach him how to play magic (he chose Dogmeat btw) because he loves Fallout as a franchise and if it werent for these precons i might not have ever gotten him into magic

Players like to repeat how "math is for blockers" or "gimme a sec, I'm bad at math", but MtG is ultimately a language game. Both the definitions of [key]words and the grammar of a card's textbox is paramount to playing this game, especially now that there are no longer vanilla creatures in Standard.
