As a big fan of most of the things Runehammer puts out and the community around it, I naturally felt true childish joy when Crown & Skull arrived last week.
We've played 1 session so far and I've decided to try making a rules breakdown so I can send it to my PCs (no lore, flare, no deep DM tips, just player rules)

Awesome vid! I gotta do a deep dive in my S&C book to really get a handle on magic in general. It's pretty clear that S&C is built around making characters interesting, rather than some min/max system to be gamed.

Absolutely! I would really recommend playing a couple of sessions with basic spell casting to get a feel for the game in general before going into deep spell customization or even thinking about pulling off wild spells at the table I was surprised how different the game felt than what I've anticipated from just reading the book...and how frickin` fast the combat plays out! I love being a spell caster. Now I can make my own spells and potentially my own type of spellcaster. This is badass.

Hey, thanks for the comment! I adore the idea of Wild Spells and will probably make a video going more in depth into them, when i get accustomed to them myself :)

@BarlowKeep same. I also want to have a mix of nature and infernal. Like an evil dead or cosmic horror motif.

Dispel is very very underwhelming. I feel like you either go all-in on it or just ignore for better magic.

I've never liked dispel / counterspell mechanics in any games...I prefer dodging/saving or...being blasted by a spell... Otherwise it is underwhelming in a way...you just lose an action so the enemy can lose an action as well...nothing happens.. But there are those who like it, and more power to them...their allies will surely love them!

One of the things that always turned me off D&D was the use of Vancian magic, so seeing C&S use "casts" was very disappointing. C&S has a number of cool features, but magic felt like a step backwards for me after ICRPG.

i mean, this isn't straight Vancian magic as DnD. It's better in my opinion.

@@pluviaaeternum perhaps not exactly Vancian, but similar in that spells can (by default) be cast once per day. For me, magic is a skill and spells are knowledge. Fighters don't swing a sword once and then forget how to do it until they sleep. The limiting factor for spells should be fatigue, much like physical actions. Cast a spell as often as you want but it takes a toll and eventually you will have to rest.

I agree, starting with normal hero point amount really and bumping up your casts/day is very taxing in all other gear aspects...it can be by design, or to make it more gritty... But, I don't think C&S is balanced like 5e is, for example. So I say, if you don't like casts just don't use them...you'd not be breaking anything. Okay sure, enemies might die more easily ...but making monsters is so easy that you never know what might be lurking in those forests! I do like the idea behind wild magic and bargaining with the DM to determine the spell cost taking all the modifiers into account.
