Thanks, glad you liked it! My interface is a Tascam US-1800. For mics, I use: Digital Reference DRDK4 mic pack on the toms and kick, Audix i5 on the snare, 2x AKG P17 for overheads. Then I use Reaper for recording software.

Larry Tate Thanks! My interface is actually a Tascam US-1800, and you are actually using much nicer tom mics than I am :), and its great that they sound good flat! My advice would be to not use presets on your toms (and all drums for that matter). All drums -- especially toms -- vary widely in timbre and tuning based on the type of would and size, so personalized eq is a must have; however, using preset eq will help you get a decent base. Also use many layers of EQ. I think on most of my toms I have two layers of EQ, a layer of Compression, followed by another layer of EQ and a gate to keep out noise from sympathetic ring. Larry Tate Your welcome! what I mean is that I use a few layers of the SAME plugin (that came built into the software I use), however you could use different plugins if you'd like (most eq plugins all function pretty similarly tho). So for example say my plugin is called "SuperEQ" (a fictional name), and in the first layer I boost the low and high frequencies and dip out the middle some. Then I have a second separate use of it layer where I fine tune it by putting a high shelf to make it less "airy", then some compression. Then another separate layer of EQ to boost the low end more to get it more thumpy... and so on until you get the sound you want. So each layer you are starting "flat" and shaping it more. Hope that clears it up :)

Gavin Caldwell It is definitely not necessary to use the double bass drum. I can (and you could) play it with one foot, it is just a little "easier" with the double bass drum.

+Kris Bright Okay, well If you need a full kit (drums, hardware, cymbals and all) then the cheapest thing I know (if you want to buy brand new) is the Ludwig Accent kit (www.musiciansfriend.com/drums-percussion/ludwig-accent-series-complete-drumset/) or something else like it. Other than that, I'd recommend digging around on craigslist for something used.
