AWESOME! Your channel is SPOT ON! Perfect instructions…I love the way you explain how to incorporate the left hand timing with the right hand. Thanks so much, I can’t wait for the next tutorial❤
That was simply fantastic. My wife (keyboards) and I (bass) are pretty much life long musicians, but we're both in personal musical ruts. SO, we are going out of our genre (modern gospel) and learning new music to break out of our comfort zones. This song was on our list to learn. This tutorial is the BEST tutorial to learn this song! Thank you SO much. We'll be starting it next as soon as we polish up the one we've just learned. ("Spooky" by the Classics 4.)
Seen Tears For Fears playing this live in a local night club, at the time, owned by Richard Branson and called Golddiggers... Just a few years ago! 26th March 1985! Just up the road for Kurt & Roland, and me too. It was an amazing, top of my list. concert where the music and vocals sounded exactly like on the radio, unlike some others I could mention. They recorded their album Songs From the big chair in The Wool Hall Beckington. a place I passed on a regular basis without even knowing they were there. Other artists like Annie Lennox, Paul Weller, The Pretenders, Van Morrison and many more also recorded there. And I didn't see any of them! Great instructional video Pierre. You do make things look easy, way easier than they are. Thank you Pierre.
Hey Pierre!! One of my favourite songs as well, love it!! Amazing tutorial. From start to finish. It is great how you explain the notes and the chords. Each section is easy to follow. It’s great how you review each section. Love that intro. Of course thank you for showing us the notes for the interlude. That interlude has a very distinctive drum fill .. this is brilliant Pierre. I also like the counting. 👍🎶
Great lesson Pierre. This is such a good finger workout for a beginner like me. It's a song I love combined with a number of finger exercises and techniques that I struggle with. Perfect.
I am off the hook easy on this one because my son crushes the guitar intro :D Also if you've ever seen TFF live I was really expecting a significant sequence presence for the style of music of that era but the whole show as played live and HUGE.
I never liked this song! As soon as it would come on the radio I would change the station. When I saw that you were doing a tutorial on the song that piqued my interest. I watched and listened and found myself saying “oh, that is cool! That sounds great! I would like to play that riff by itself!” By the end, I found myself searching for the lyrics! Now I like the song! I will certainly put this on my to-do list! Thanks for a great tutorial!
There were a lot of songs we took for granted back in the day. When compared to most of today's music, I think I go back and appreciate some of those old songs.
Great tutorial, easy to learn the way you teach. I recently started learning to play from RU-vid tutorials and when I saw this video my search ended and I'm your new sub. Bravo good sir 👍🏾
I’d love to hear you talk about the idea that whenever you are figuring out a cover song, you are essentially a co-composer. Even in a piece like this, you are making numerous choices regarding compositional and arrangement ideas in order to get the piece sounding more like the original. How do you go about this “co-composing.” What criteria do you use? Is it more than “this bass lick is iconic and therefore needs to be represented in some way.” Maybe your left hand is already busy and you’re forced to use the right hand in a different pitch to represent the lick, but that’s ok because it still has the original intent. These are important decisions. Can you speak to this type of analysis so we can get a better idea how to become better co/composers?
Thanks. Since you are a Elton fan, when are you planning to do "Tonight" from Blue Moves album ? And on the same album "Sorry seems to be the hardest word" seems easier... 😀
It would be great to have a vocal accomplice at least hum or be bop the melody for some of the melody parts though I know you’re restricted from being too specific. I can definitely work the guitar part/solo from this. Fun song!
Thanks! It doesn’t, because I want to keep the sheet music as simple as possible, with only what’s needed. Plenty of other versions exist with lyrics, guitar chords, etc…
