When I first heard this guitar solo, years ago, it just grabbed me. I still believe it's one of the best guitar solos ever written. Thanks for breaking it down, so perfectly. You are a very gifted guitar player and teacher.

Thank you for doing this one! Ian Bairnson is such a criminally underrated guitarist...he has the knack of putting just the right amount of pizzazz at just the right time in a song. Very subtle, very under appreciated!

The way you explain things makes it easier to understand. How the notes from the chords and solo playing those notes explain a lot. There's a reason you have so many likes compared to 0 dislikes. Thanks for explaining it clearly.

your instructional videos are some of the best on RU-vid. Been playing guitar for over 40 years and really appreciate the way you add context to the parts, framing the CAGE concepts and of course the cord tones and arpeggios

Love it! I recall a few years ago that a song by LADY ANTEBELLUM had a very similar progression, and wanted our group to medley/morph into EYE IN THE SKY. Noone knew what the hell song I was talking about. LOL.

Ian Bairnson was a great guitar player. His parts sounded simple, but they were deceptively difficult. But he played his parts around the chords, and he played through the chords.

Man you are such a great player and teacher. You and Tim Pierce are the best out there. Is that a wine red Deluxe,? I let a 1974 just like it get away from me......a regret.

Just being mentioned in the same sentence as Tim Pierce it's a huge honor...He's one of the most polished guitarists around and one of the nicest guys to boot! You can read about my guitars and amps etc. on my gear page here: www.shutupandplay.ca/gear.html but it's a 1975 LP Deluxe. Cheers Andy

Great detailed tutorial. Thx sir. You have a very good style of relaying info clearly with just enough background and good solid playing. Nice tone too! I have a student who is very interested in the 80s Alan Parsons material and we’ve been digging into some of the songs lately. Keep up the great work!

You are right, this is a great song to learn. I see three different scales or modes to play. In the key of D, the root, fourth G and fifth A, you can play bm pentatonic, D major scale, and the A Mixolydian which is the Fifth mode of the D scale. That position at the second fret from the F# - G note A mixolydian. G is flat seventh in A mixolydian scale. From the fifth position of the Key to D. Thanks for the great work you do.

I ALWAYS do a demo of the song, mostly in a separate video. There's a link to my website in the pop-up card in the top right hand corner of the video or the link in the description or the first pinned comment...my demo and the lesson are on the same page. My stuff is a lot easier to navigate through the website. Cheers, Andy

Very, very cool lesson. Thank you very much. Finally got this solo thanks to you!! Beautiful song of a classic album. I always liked the style of Bairnson. He's a very melodic player. Much underrated indeed. I see you also dedicated a lesson to 'I wouldn't want to be like you' of I Robot... Great. Can you please consider doing the solo of 'Gonna get your fingers burned' of the Eye in the Sky-album? It's a more complex solo compare to this one. Again, thank you very much! Great lesson!
