Thanks for making the videos! You've taught me a few games now. ☺ I really enjoy your blending of graphics and live footage of the board, and appropriately placed pauses, so I can absorb all the information you just explained.
@@GamingRulesVideos You're very welcome, we were really wracking our brains trying to get a grasp of every little rule and detail. We ended up making the first scenario way too hard and restarted. Afterwards, your guide really helped us develop a better understanding of not only the flow of the game, but the rules too. Much appreciated!
Paul you were my entry into Through The Ages and you’ve been a big help with this game also. I really appreciated the length of these videos - unlike the game, not intimidatingly huge!
Thanks. I really try to keep the videos both clear and concise. I always maintain that most people don't have time to watch 2-3 hour playthroughs thesedays, but the viewing figures on my other videos prove otherwise :)
Gaming Rules! Lol personally I love a play through if it’s done right. JonGetsGames playthrough of Gloomhaven was the nail in the purchase coffin for me. However, I have friends who would never watch a 2 hour play through video (guess who also reads the rulebooks in my group...) Thanks again 🙂
Really great how-to-play video. After watching these 2 videos (+ doing a bit of Rulebook referencing) I was able to get going quite quickly without actually reading the entire thing. Ultimately I’ll get to the whole book as I play along, but I love videos like this that get me knowing the basics really fast-so I can get onto more fun tasks-like getting to know the strategies of my hero’s cards. Great stuff
The editing on your videos are top notch. Your voice is clear and easy to follow and presented in a non-nonsense format that makes it easy to pick up the rules. Sub from me! Keep up the awesome work!
Excellent Video. Both of them really. Great job writing the script! The explanation was very succinct, even better than the actual rulebook in many cases. You taught me a couple things too! There were a few changes to the final rules that I didn't see. So thank you!
Thanks for the feedback :) Scripts take a long time to write, test, rewrite, change, etc. And trying to get the right information in the right order, in a short as time as possible.
Thank you so much! I have been trying to learn to play this game and have almost given up hope, you saved the day! Thank you very much ! You have a viewer for life
I purchased Gloomhaven recently and after opening the box to see just how much is included I was just a tad intimidated. This definitely will help me for my first game. Pretty sure I'll be watching the video a couple of times, haha. Thanks for the clear and concise videos!
Thanks for the thorough walk through. You were straight forward and easy to understand. Much appreciated! It would have been nice to put pt1, pt2 or something in the title to make your two videos easier to tell apart.
@@GamingRulesVideos TY Sir. After playing a few rounds and watching this again you have really done a great job. One aspect that i found confusing and you didn't mention is at 23:20, when the monster stepped onto the trap it should have been dealt damage equal to the scenario level ( in your case 3 damage for scenario level 1)
excellent job Paul. watched it ages ago but rewatched it this weekend in preparation for first scenario later next week. You made it all so clear, wish every game had you doing rules video for it!
This is the best explaination that I saw for this game! Clear, short, bullet point! I'm preaty sure it tooks a lot of time to write/repeat the video to be this clear and concise. Thank you so much! Is there other video on the same game to get further with the rules? Thans you so much!
Great video. The rulebook is gnarly and can be intimidating. I bought the game, perused the rulebook, but after watching this video, I feel like I can play the game and teach it to friends. Might just take 20 mins and have the whole group watch this before our first session.
Yeah, I would definitely advise that. Otherwise, it is all on you to remember all the rules. And it may take you longer to teach all of this in person than it would getting them to watch the video :)
For me it usually goes like this: nobody wants to spend 20 minutes watching the video since they are excited to play and then I field 3 hours of questions. :\
Thanks for this video. That big box is as intimidating as it is exciting. With your videos watched, I feel in a better place to crack the rule book and initiate a campaign.
Same dude, i bought it yesterday and i looked in the box, i was like, what have i done 😂 i check this video, im like thats it? Easy! Gonna play this evening
This is a great video, just got my box and while rule book is very good this is a great summary and a way to show my friends how to play our first game!
Thanks. I recommend they all watch it before your first game. I know its a long video, but it will really save a lot of time in your first game session and ensure that "knowing the rules" is shared out, as it can be a lot for one person.
Excellent video, thank you! Your explanations and editing were very clear and concise. This game doesn't seem too intimidating now and I can't wait to try it out!
I shared your video with all 3 other players and it was litteraly what saved our first session. The amount of time we managed to avoid just reading or explaining everything was tremendous and very appriciated! So, thanks for this awesome vid, seriously! Keep up the great work! And by Jebus... THIS GAME IS AMAZING! Been playing boardgames and dungeoncrawlers for over a decade but this one is now, for good reasons, among one of my most beloved.
Additionally I'd love to see an advanced rules video that covers the rules you were not able to cover here. Also both videos should have sections of the video bookmarked with time stamps in the comment section. Those are super, super helpful if a viewer needs to jump to a certain section to get visual help on the rules!
It's an expensive game for sure, but it's one of the most value for money games I have. We are 120 hours in now, and still so much to go :) But it also works well as a pick up and just play one scenario game.
great! Hopefully the owner of the game has watched the video too. A lot of people are making some big rules mistakes in their first play. (using the chracter specific attack cards rather than the standard 20 card deck, and forgetting that you can lose a card from hand to ignore ALL damage from one attack, etc.
Hey Paul! Game finally came in, played about 5 scenarios so far and wow! After watching so many times you playing through the first scenario, it was amazing to see what came after! Thanks again and take care!
It is! We played our first Scenario last week and can`t wait to get back to the table. Thanks again for your great Video. Helped a lot to get into the game fast. You are well structured, nail it on the Point and the Video techniques and presentation is just great.
Great rule video! You have a good pace, lots of these move either too fast to be practical or drag on to ad Absurdium giving too much detail. Feel like I'd be ready to try the barrows now, with more confidence and less time spent than if I'd read the book
Thanks for the comment. I put a lot of planning into what I'm going to say, when, and test the script out on people before filming begins for pace and clarity. Good to know it helps :)
Hi there! Recently I've bought that game with my friends and really looking forward to play it! Although I'm born deaf and I have tried to follow that video with automatic subtitles of youtube itself. But as everyone know it, it is not really good/perfect (yet). So I'm wondering, can someone or you (Gaming Rules!) help me and maybe the rest of deaf/hard of hearing people with adding (english) subtitles, please? It would help me to understand the mechanic of the game itself for sure! (and it will make for me easier to read the 52 pages rulebook ;) )So, pretty please? :)
Quick Summons rule question: If I summon an ally, I know I can’t use him till the following round. However, what about his taking damage, In other words, is my summons there to absorb damage immediately or is that the following round too?
