Hey Sped, as a huge Jimmy Page, fan I always come here first when I want to learn more Zeppelin. I always admire your style, so clean and precise and with great tone! Really enjoy all of your lessons. Thanks.
This by far is the best lesson for this I've seen to date. No one else even covers the full outro, like it doesn't even exist. And I've paid good money on sites like Liclibrary, doesn't come close.! Thank you, I'll be following...more Zep?...
Love playing this one. It’s one of the first Zeppelin songs I learned all the way through. Really helped my rhythm skills, and the lead part was just right for my skill level.
"Probably won't know will I because I'm absolutely mint." Ok, now I'm a fan. Killer lesson. You leave the BS behind and just teach the song. Thumbs up!
That opening riff is difficult to get from the recording. Thank you very much for breaking it down. Ditto for the solo, the sound on the original is muddled but your instruction is very clear.
I'm finding your Led Zeppelin lessons and informative videos very entertaining. Keep up the great work and I look forward to your future lessons! Just subscribed to your patreon. Look forward to the extra stuff and tabs!
Who could of dreamed that after all these years there would be a RU-vid video of a a guy (Sped) showing us how to play the songs we wished we could play way back when. If this ain't nifty I don't know what is.
I know this is an older video, but great. I am watching it from Glasgow waiting to fly out tomorrow. I really like to watch your videos a couple of times through carefully, then start playing or learning it. Very helpful. My sympathies are with all of the UK upon the Queen's passing.
Just found this video, it's the best on RU-vid on this tune, I love it and will now start practicing. Thank you so much for uploading this awesome tutorial!!!
You’re so welcome, can’t believe how fast the time goes. Also reminded me that I lost my slide and I need to buy new one! And actually learn how to properly use it. 😂😂😂🚨
38C is pretty normal where I live and even we call it hot so well done putting this one out. It's a really well put together lesson and I am looking forward to working through it. Thanks a ton from down under.
I went to a greg Koch master-class in Perth years ago, he went on at 10pm in February and it was still almost 40c in the place. His expensive fenders couldn't handle it.
Hey Sped. JP here. I enjoy playing this tune with a bit of echo. I hit that E5 only once and let the echo do the rest of the work. It’s fun and opened up a different way of thinking for me.
This is better than your 4 year old performance video because you link/legato the individual notes (A, D, G, D, G, D), in the intro/main, as opposed to staccato. Well done.
Thanks! You've convinced me the D major arpeggio uses the open D string rather than the A at the 5th.... wait, no, it's the second finger on the A at the 5th...wait... I need to watch this tutorial through properly.... what? Both? Why not? Gee.
Anybody else always go direct to the section called Solo? Whether the old tab books, or this new RU-vid thing, I always did that. Then I had to face up to how decades later I could play lots of solos and make up some tricky licks, but I never really became a musician. I can noodle away, but if asked to play a tune I will look like a deer in the headlights going 'ummm' and feeling like a beginner. Apart from my early garage band days when we knew a few tunes, I became the quintessential bedroom noodler guitar player. This time I managed to make myself learn one verse before jumping straight to the solo lol. I'll kick the bucket long before my old habits do I guess. :P P.S. Good lesson. Seems legit to the way he would have played it. That's rare. Tabs often seem to be notated by trumpet players or something, i.e., not guitar friendly.
Great lesson, Sped 👍 I find the main riff a bit tricky at my (lack of) skill level. I think it's the rhythm that throws me a bit. You have become great in front of the camera - your natural easy sense of humour is coming through so well 😊
Hi Sped. Hmm Im only 3 years late! Anyway, Just have a question on the f# part. Does Jimmy do it the way you play it? I learned it by playing the B-A 4ths at the 7th fret position. You still have to get back to the F# quickly but it seems a little smoother not having to string jump. You're already on the E-A-D strings and just sliding down. I don't know. What do you think? I know you have a great ear and are the Zep master so who better to ask?! btw, love your vids and the laughs too!
Would be great if we could see a closeup of how your picking the riff after the main power chord....it's hard to tell what your doing and it's the best part
I'm looking for a new distortion pedal; love the sound your getting in this video do you remember what amp and pedal you used. Great playing, great touch. Page could probably pick up a few pointers watching it. Good Luck to All.
@@SpedSpedding once I’ve worked through your songs, I’m going to try reach out for guitar lesson. British, but currently in California, so I wonder if we could that work as everything is online now? Definitely find your teaching and tastes are well curated! Thanks again, I dream of owning that guitar.
Sorry if someone has already asked but what pickups do you have installed? And follow on question, have you ever tried rewiring to the legendary Page style and if so what did you use?
For some reason ,I cannot figure, I have had a tough time getting the beginning of the first solo. I am really frustrated, as it should be no problem for me, as I have been playing a loooong time. Oh well, one note at a time it will have to be, because breking into short phrases has been one of the problems. Grrrrrr! Edit: I walked away from the lesson ,made a pot of water for a cup of tea, and attacked the solo with fresh eyes and fingers, and Bang! Got it down. Still have a tough time playing it along with the track...Pages speed is amazing in both his rhythm and solo playing. The man is a friggin genius.Edit: Here I am a day later and I have to re-hash the solo again.....It`s a tricky, fast and hard to play on the higher notes on my Les Paul. Hell it is a tough nut to crack with ANY guitar!
Awesome video and awesome song to learn! a little question (i know it's not related): the winner of the Ernie Ball giveaway it's been already annouced?
i hear you on the tears.....and i never followed through with the long hair and big brown beard like John Lennon in '68...i think i had an appearance in a magistrates court room....Yerblues John
Thanks for the reply. I just watched your PAF video. I was already planning to do exactly what you did to yours (although with different brand pickups). While I think the stock Gibson pickups are great, and your guitar sounds great here, it is noticeably different and nicer to my ear with your new pickups. Definitely more of a vintage sound.
See for outro are you barring your first finger to get the pull offs? Struggling to make the pull offs sound good when I descend my index finger through the 12th fret on each string (if that makes sense)
Hey Billy, yeah I often barre for efficiency with runs like that. To get the separation between the notes I’m releasing the pressure intermittently to stop sustain, kinda gives the illusion I fret every note. Check out a recent video I did about keeping your playing tidy too.
@@SpedSpedding cheers for the reply, been trying to get the outro nailed since I saw this video as this is the only one that covers it thank you! I’ll check out the video the now
Nahhh Just your friendly neighborhood firefighter in New York.. I will be taking out my 1969 sunburst Deluxe, now because of your videos . Serious MOTO. Thank you again. And has anybody seen the bridge?
You are doing the D part in the chorus wrong. Start on the open D and hammer on the A and upper D at the 7th fret. Also start the turn around on the open D and hammer on the F sharp at the 4th fret. This is much easier and imparts a more rhythmic percussive feel. NOBODY on the interweb has picked up on this. John Paul Jones does these hammer on's constantly and it is crucial to his sound. I think Jimmy just copied jpj here.
cool story,, I was a sophmore in highschool in 1968 and my drummer buddy came by and told me "you need to go down to Giant Music and listen to this new band called Led Zeppelin. So down I go and I buy the Album and take it home and put it on,,, on comes Good Times, Bad Times,, and I'm frozen in place. then comes the second verse and Bonzo's heel and toe on the bass drum,,, and I go "what the F dd he just do"? And my musical life was never the same ! My dad got So tired of hearing me play that LP over and over again and again! Then a year latter , my band mates and I went to Maryland and saw Zep and the Who in concert and were blown away!!!! Thanks so much for the lesson. brings back so many great memories!
That’s absolutely amazing! Love that story so much, did you all travel together and make a big thing out of it? I absolutely love the idea of music shops back in the day, people queuing and the excitement. It’ll never be the same. Technology is amazing but some experiences are just better shared in person with a physical journey over the click of a button and a flash. ❤️🇺🇸
@@SpedSpedding Ya, we all went together in one car. It was Zep's 1st tour and the Who was introducing Tommy so the four of us came away totally in awe! by the way I'm going to join Patrion and use your videos and tabs as therapy for my left arm and hand. really enjoy your videos!
In the days of my youth I had long hair but now I'm really old and I don't care. Good times bad times you know I had my share why are you starting a video about your f****** hair
