In today's lesson, we are looking at GOSPEL BLUES PIANO RUNS & LICKS.
If you are a beginner to intermediate musician looking to get into riffs, runs, and improvisation this is the place to start. I'm going to show you how you can use the pentatonic scale in MANY different ways to play licks over ANY song or chord progression.
We are also going to take a look at the BLUES SCALE and how you can use this scale to take your playing to the next level.

Something that helped me: You need to learn a few scale/repeating patterns that can go up and down the keyboard and chords to go with it, yes, scale theory, yes. But MOST important, you need to put it the TIME to get your fingers moving that fast and accurately. Just knowing theory won't help. But the good news is anybody can build speed and technique. Put hours not minutes into it, and one day you'll stun yourself by your own crazy fast runs lol.

Very important: If the song is in a minor key, you can just play the pentatonic scale in that key. But if it is in a major key, you need to move it to the 6th note of the scale and play from there. Look at the piano. The A minor scale has the same notes as C major. That's why you play the A minor pentatonic over the C major chord progression since it is the MINOR pentatonic scale. As you can see on the piano the A is the 6th note of the C major scale. It is the tonic parallel and that's why it works like that. He showed it in the video, but I feel he didn't explain why. Very simply explained: Move down three frets and start from there if the key is major.

It is my opinion that a good part of the reason why it seems so hard to learn to play the piano and maybe music in general is because of how it has been taught over the years. This was an awesome easy to understand tutorial just like the one he did on the 2-5-1 progression. Bless you my brother

First time I see you. AWESOME way of teaching beginners. Especially you show where to place your fingers if it's a C# 4 or C#5. I love. It would be good to let us knwow the finger to use for each pentatonic scale. I totally get the point of playing the pentatonic (or blues) of the sixth, but I am having problem with the finger to use if I must play it on many octaves, down or up.
