Resort courses/florida course have soft fluffy sand...anywhere else..unusual to have sand...more like river dirt...packed!..even if sand...under sand is packed!....you cannot play an open standard sand shot...your club will bounce off the sand into the ball and send a skull that will make your partners duck!...the only way is with a square face...chunk &run.....the consistency of sand and whether you can get under it is vital!

I used to have terrible trouble in bunkers but as Adam says, coming from the inside helps hugely, as does having the feeling that your right hand is trying to outrace your left (if you’re right-handed). Thanks Adam. Always enjoy your videos

I live in desert area & our bunker are a bit firm compared to fluffy ones I see. How do you play firm bunkers?

Jonathan, You’d have to square the face a bit more, and hit down a little more also. Hope this helps, Adam

The type and amount of sand in the bunker has a contributed factor to your success. The majority of public courses that I play you will not find nice white fluffy sand. Many times it is more like hitting of hard pan.

Michael, As a golfer you have to deal with what’s in front of you. Naturally, if the sand is hard you have to adjust (close the face more, hit down harder etc), but each video can’t cover all possibilities. Best, Adam

Good video. Problem: I have always been taught to hit 1-2 inches behind the ball. If that occurs won’t my divot be behind the ball? Second if divot is in front of the ball it seems I am in danger of hitting the ball first then the sand. Help?

Mike, The middle of the divot is the true low point. It's fine to enter sand 2 or 3 inches behind the ball, but most of the divot should be past the ball. Best, Adam

I play in California where the bunker are rock hard. No fluffy white sands just brown dried up dirt bunkers. What’s the best technique and loft and bounce to play in that kind of bunkers?

David, You have to find a way to penetrate the sand. I'd say face angle (less open/bounce), and angle of attack would be the areas to go. Hope this helps. Best, Adam

This was extremely helpful. I was in the first category and for weeks was doing exactly the wrong thing to correct the problem. I played yesterday and got out of all bunkers in 1. Thanks so much.

I used to mentally crawl into the fetal position whenever I’d have a bunker shot. Then it infected my entire short game...Sorta had to give up the game when I basically got the yips with chips and pitches, and it was a hideous game of ping pong if I got in a bunker. I’m always looking for the secret out of the bunker, etc. the shallow - or just taking a normal swing - helps me. A short game lesson with a pro helps a lot!

I’m a low handicapper just moved to Vegas from Australia and the sand here is so different and hard . Finding it very difficult to hit decent bunker shots as I’m trying to adjust . Another great video Adam , thanks 👍🏌️‍♀️⛳️

I admire you seem to have & teach a lot of "flow" to all shots, learning to "golf" the ball, not "hit" it. Am I onto something or merely on something?

It's possible I'm the worst bunker player you've ever seen. In firm or even damp sand, I'm fine. But when it's soft or fluffy, I'm a nightmare. Everything from thin, bladed shots to deep chunky shots leaving them in the bunker. I've got to try this, but finding a practice bunker is difficult. Any tips for practicing the correct swing without sand?
