Follow my 'idiot proof' chord charts and you'll be playing this classic guitar intro 'exactly' like the record in about an hour. But hey, don't take my word for it; download the charts and see for yourself. And like everything else on my channel, they're FREE! Here's the link: www.bluenotegui...

My mother had her PhD in musicology from McGill University. She was a pianist for the BSO in 1972-74. I was in her belly under the piano listening to Mozart and Chopin. As a child, I listened 100x to my favorite 45LP "Peter and the Wolf" over and over and over...She would take me to Sunday rehearsals at Symphony Hall where I'd eat my PBnJ and annoy the sound guys upstairs 🤣..or run around backstage. I've been a Pro musician now for 20 years. I didnt understand at first WHY I could just pick up one of my instruments and play a tune I heard...almost immediately. I don't have "perfect pitch" but its damn close!! I attribute this to my upbringing, going to chamber music parties at 10 years old, and University student musicians coming to our apartment playing guitar, cello, violin...One time, I asked all of them to play Tchaikovsky (sp) "Peter"..and they DID!! A 6 year olds dream team!! 8 musicians playing just for ME!! 😃

Playing guitar a long time and honestly believe this is one of the most informative and helpful lessons out there. I don't mean for hotel California which it is but in general. Very valuable information for anybody learning or stuck in a rut. Love the honesty as well and highlights the fact that you don't have to have a degree in music theory to be an excellent guitar player or any instrument. Great way of putting across the information and proper down to earth lesson. Keep it up 👍

Learning harmony (music theory) is essential if you want to play along with a singer or other musicians, and if you want to write your own material and not take as long as Leonard Cohen (5 years to write Hallelujah). It doesn’t mean you have to learn to read scores (notation), and for the intimidated, it is not rocket science. It is easy, and pays dividends.

This is Don Felders guitar part, it’s all the guitar parts put together that really make this one of the all time great compositions, Glen fry played 6 string acoustic with a capo at the 2nd fret starting on Am, there is probably 4 or 5 different guitar parts on the actual record, Great Lesson, just shows how much ahead of the game musicians were compared to now … Great Stuff ⭐️👍🏻🎸🌞

In India, teachers verbally teach the phrasings or rhythms or chords or pretty much everything. Then they demonstrate it by playing while verbally teaching. It’s always effective in memorising and mapping your way through your instruments. I guess teachers are the same everywhere. Great stuff ❤

By chance, this afternoon I was playing this song my own way with my 12-string guitar. I discovered your channel through the excellent intro of 'The Cinema Show' by Genesis and I'm a regular and loyal follower ever since. I appreciate your remarkable musical ear, and while I missed the classic notation phrasing of a sheet music..., now I know that with you, I'll have to memorize a lot. To the point! If I understood you correctly, you suggest that we ask for songs, and in that case, I would implore you, if it's within your power, to make a 'stupid proof' tutorial of 'I'll See You in My Dreams' from the Travis or Atkins version, which I can't to play, no matter how hard I try. Excellent tutorial, with very good advice. Thank you very much, Rob.

Hi! What a great and pleasant surprise a real-time conversation with you, Rob! I've seen your ukulele tutorials, but I'm only interested in the guitar versions, particularly the one by Merle Travis. I've been working on the necessary technique for a long time, and "I'll see you in my dreams" would be my next challenge, goal, or endeavor. And I know that with a tutorial from you, it would be impossible to fail. Right now, I'm getting ready to "grease the machine" with your two tutorials for "Never Going Back Again" and "Everybody's Talking At Me - (Midnight Cowboy)", which are coming along very well thanks to your instructions. A hug from Spain, and thank you very, very much for everything.

I think that you hear more notes on the record because they have an effect on the guitar. I doubt he would change it that much when he plays it live now because the picking patter would still be based on his technique, how he learned to play like that.
