Thank you for the free download. I am using it and find it very helpful. I wish I could practice 45 minutes a day but that is not feasible with my schedule. I was comforted to hear that vibrato takes awhile to acquire the skill. Gives me hope that my older hands will cooperate with time and practice!
Thank you so much Julia! I have been self-teaching (you tube learning) for a little over a month now and have been doing this naturally. But I have been worried that it was wrong and thinking that I would have to correct my index finger contact eventually. What a relief to hear that what I am doing is ok - even helpful. :) Your videos are excellent and you are so generous with your instruction and encouragement ... I am very grateful! God bless you!
Wonderful to hear about this Pamela! ❤️ Self-learning can be a bit overwhelming at times not being sure what to do next or if you are doing it correctly. I am happy to hear my violin video was able to help you find your answer. I'm looking forward to hearing more about your self-teaching journey, happy practicing! 😊🎻✨
And now I have a name for the technique that I was taught from day one when I started playing when I was very young. It is now a part of muscle memory 70 years on. I've never had a difficult time with intonation but really did not understand why. This should be a part of every beginners learning.
Thank you for making video.. Single contact makes difficulty specially during strings change.. double contact gives good intonation but limitations for vibrato and position shifting...
Yes, you will remove the double contact when playing vibrato. 😄 For position shifting it is actually very helpful to know where you are (so to use double contact)! 😊
I’ve had multiple violinists and violin instructors tell me that doing this is wrong. Have you ever heard that? I always did this naturally and they told me to stop
Great tip. There's great piece of really cheap software called Intonia that could also help. You record your playing and in a graphic timeline you see where you were off. Picked it up from another channel. Pretty amazing.
A bit of a confession, I've sort of dropped my violin lessons so I can focus on my career, but I still want to practice whatever I've learnt so far, pls help in terms of how to make it effective and what day you think is the best to practice
5 Minutes a day is not a long time, but you can keep improving little bits every day even with only 5 min/day! Make sure to practice with a clear plan / method and know exactly what you want to practice before each session, so you will spend every minute wisely 😊
Thank you for this video - you explain it very well! I do use that technique but I have a hard time not squeezing too tight. I sometimes feel like I'm going to crush the fingerboard! I try to relax my hand but I can't reach over to the G string without pushing with my thumb. I try to keep my hand position high and I stretch my wrist and fingers every day. I'm 60 by-the-way, and I started 11 months ago. I practice about 12 - 14 hours a week (I know that's not a lot but I work a lot). Any advice would be appreciated.
my violin teacher has just recently introduced this to me to help me stay in tune, its very helpful but hard to do fourth finger with it (for me at least, my hands are small).
this video is so beautiful. by the way, your hair is long now. when I started to watch your videos your hair was short. in short or long you beautiful forever. plz do more videos.
Hi Julia, I was wondering. Once you learn the muscle memory of where the strings are with your arms on your violin, if you change to another violin will you have to relearn that muscle memory again to match that violin?
That is a very good question. The answer is no, and yes.. a little. No, because you will know the technique and have the muscle memory. Yes a little since every violin is a little different, it may take a little bit to get use to where the notes are again. But not much.😊
@@Violinspiration oh ok. Thanks. Btw, I implemented the tip you shared to help with hitting the strings and I’m getting better at it! Still can’t play despacito all the way through but I can play the first 4 notes 🤷🏽♀️ Another issue I’m having is if I don’t look, I move my finger to the wrong string. Right position wrong string. For ex: I may mean to put 1st finger on A but it ends up on D if I don’t look
Hi TM! The main difference is that the academy is going to be a more personalized learning experience. I will be able to personally assess and guide you as well as the way you learn will be more structured and not just learning songs/tips (like on RU-vid). If you are interested you can always reach out to me via email - julia@violinspiration.com - 😊
