Marty, I want you to know I work in a medical lab in Minnesota and have been following you for several years. Yesterday, a young boy about the same age I was when I learned guitar (13ish) came in to get his blood drawn. He was talking about his guitar and we hit it off. He was super passionate about playing and his mother told me that he and all his guitar buddies follow your channel and think you're the best. Then he was suprised and thought I was super cool that I follow you too. Anyway, I used to teach guitar and when you can inspire young people to be passionate and have a unique ability to teach and demonstrate the effort and patience involved learning an instrument, it's a great feeling. I thought I would share this with you. Take care. Nate Little Falls, Minnesota.
Marty you were my first Internet teacher almost ten years ago and you are my go to guitar guru today. I always think i wonder how Marty would play this? I'm here this morning enjoying playing along with my brother I've never met. Thanks my friend !! Gene
In case anyone’s wondering how the end riff goes... I hope you guys appreciate this cause it took a while to type it out haha E --3-h4--------| A------2-h4----| D----------2--| G-------------| B-------------| e-------------| Then Finishes With An Em Chord
I remember my grandfather died I was heart broken. He loved this song so much. When we heared the news me and my mam went right over to his house to support my grandmother. I found his old guitar and asked my grandmother if I could use it. I didn't know how to play any guitar but some how I learned this song in 2 weeks and played it at his funeral
Hi Marty. 9 months ago I learned this song. I play it at cook outs, bonfires, & everyone loves the rhythm 🎶 of this song from young to old. Every time I play it you pass through my mind because of where I learned it. Can’t thank you enough
Getting back into guitar playing after a 50+ year break, and just want to say how much I enjoy and appreciate all you're doing Marty. The internet didn't exist when I first started playing - look how far we've come and how much help we have today! Thanks a million!
JoeDee Cee I found that picking with my fingers helped me find a comfortable place on the guitar to rest my palm, after that muting is just shifting your palm over the strings. It's pretty easy to switch over to pick after that.
I’ve only been playing a couple weeks I’m finding that power chords are a good way to practice muting. Although this comment was two years ago I hope u have improved by now 😂
You make learning new stuff so fun and doable. Trying to learn this in time for Father's Day, so I can play it for my dad. He's a huge Johnny Cash fan. Wish me luck!
Marty you're a great teacher. You present your lessons in such a way that makes it fun to learn. Can't thank you enough for your hard work putting these lessons together.
Marty thank you for taking the time to help us out I appreciate it very much. The way you teach should be the standard my friend , I have basically learned more from you than I have taking lessons. Awesome my friend once again thank you
Thanks so much for this, Marty! I am a total beginner, so fun for me to watch your fantastic, easy to follow along lesson to learn such a legendary song from such a legend. Really appreciate the time you put into this for us.
You know what I like about this lesson in how you break everything down I could imagine Cash him self teaching his kids how to play this song the same way
Thanks Marty. You explain it well. I like the repetition idea. It takes time to get these things into our brains when learning. I am a Johnny Cash Fan and I am watching you video for the third time and finally got the alternating bass bit with the strumming. Thanks again
Martyr I'm only finding this channel now through my grandson. It's been helpful to me. My favourite Johnny cash number since the 70s thanks again. and I will look forward to seeing some more videos.
Marty, not only are you very accomplished, you are a very nice guy. This “Folsom Prison Blues” tutorial was easy to follow. You helped me with several other songs, ie. Clapton’s “YOU LOOK WONDERFUL TONIGHT” & that went well for me, too. Take care; God Bless!
Hi Marty! This is Giuseppe from Italy. Thx a lot for your effort and vital charge. In very few occasions I ran in trouble with you explanation since we name chords in a different way. A very little bit slower will help me, stranger for Italy, to fully enjoy your lesson. Anyway you're doing great! Bravoooooo!
Marty, I really enjoy learning from your lessons. Probably like most players at my beginner level, I ALWAYS learn something from EVERY ONE of your lessons as well as learning a song. Please don’t change the format or your sincerity. With your help, I will not put down the guitar this time and will accomplish my goal of adding the guitar to the several other instruments I play. I have purchased a few of your other stuff before and would be glad to help support you as you go forward through your teriffic content.
I hear the train a comin' It's rollin' 'round the bend, And I ain't seen the sunshine Since, I don't know when I'm stuck in Folsom Prison And time keeps draggin' on But that train keeps a-rollin' On down to San Antone When I was just a baby My Mama told me, "Son Always be a good boy Don't ever play with guns, " But I shot a man in Reno Just to watch him die When I hear that whistle blowin' I hang my head and cry I bet there's rich folks eatin' In a fancy dining car They're probably drinkin' coffee And smokin' big cigars But I know I had it comin' I know I can't be free But those people keep a-movin' And that's what tortures me Well, if they freed me from this prison If that railroad train was mine I bet I'd move out over a little Farther down the line Far from Folsom Prison That's where I want to stay And I'd let that lonesome whistle Blow my blues away
I picked up an acoustic someone was tossing at the side of the road...9 months ago when this pandemic started, big shout out and thanks for the lessons Marty! loving it
Been watching your vids for a while now and recommend them to anyone I know who is embarking on playing guitar. Just the way you teach is so easy to understand. Thanks mate ,,, much appreciated for your time and effort. Let me know when you make it to Queensland , Australia for a clinic , would love to see you and thank you in person. Peace brother Marty👍👍

What a guy I’ve learnt so much off you you legend I hope you keep rocking on and “the ways of rock” cheers for everything and you really give me passion for playing too thanks
I can't thank you enough for all the new videos. They're all great and look forward to seeing more. You're hitting all the staple songs I've been wanting to learn but couldn't find great video lessons for.
Johnny Cash- Folsom Prison Blues is my favorite, so I memorized it now since I have a guitar that was my grandmother's fathers I though maybe I could play the song and sing it.
Thanks for sharing another great lesson! I am learning guitar at the ripe old age of 39 and your lessons give me hope. Also, I saw in one of your older videos you were wearing a Stone Brewing shirt...great taste in beer! Cheers.
Marty's videos are always the one's I search for when wanting to learn a specific song. Keep up the great work Marty! Oh, I was hoping you would show how to play the short leads during the middle of the song. Still, love your videos.
Love your lessons especially for beginners with a song. Please call out chords as often as you can. Loving the practicing because of the rhythms . Trying to learn to pick but too fast for me.
Hello marty mate. love your videos . I'm a complete beginner and can't read music at all but am able to follow your step by step guide . big big fan of cash so glad to give this one a go. Keep up the great work mate. All the best from the south of England , Mark.
Hey Marty i learn from your videos of ring of fire and walk the line i first started hearing the songs of johnny cash .And that motivated me to play guitar thank you and i hope that this comment can be an encouragement
I really appreciate the comment Benjamin! Thanks for supporting me right here at "MartyMusic." Tons of BRAND NEW content coming every week! Stay tuned.
Marty, I am becoming a believer that I can play guitar. I've been strumming this song for a while, but it sounded methodical and boring. You brought it to life for me. Thanks for all your sharing. I am working on a few others with you, too. Europa, for instance. You're the best. Dan
Hey Marty, you do a fantastic job of explaining how to play this song. Thanks for what you're doing ! It's really helped me sustain an interest in learning guitar.
Awesome video. I always seem to circle back to your videos years later after failing trying to play something you’ve taught, and then it feels like I’ve progressed enough to actually start tackling some of the songs. Same with your lesson on Purple Haze (Still haven’t really tried to buckle down and learn that solo, need to). Anyways, thanks a lot Marty.
Thank you! I play piano but I wasn’t sure if the sheet music I was looking at was right. Plus I wasn’t sure on rhythm just looking at the chords so this helped a lot!
